So why does Cain merit any attention from anyone about anything? Making money by fucking over your employees and selling a shitty product to the public is pretty unremarkable. He'll pass. Like kernel of sweet corn

If you worked at a pizza chain, you'd expect gold plated bennies?  WTF?  C'mon, dubb, seriously.

I like how Cain is the current favorite of the Republicans, yet no one is giving him any money. Last month he made like 200,000, to Obama's 70 million. Also, most everyone's taxes on this forum would increase under his 999 plan. Yep, lets vote for tax hikes. ?

b_dubb

i think we're going to have to pay more taxes to curb the debt.  it's unavoidable.  people are going ape shit about Obama's spending.  but it was part of a Keynesian economic strategy.  prime the pump.  the thing is after the pump has been primed you have to pay the tab.  you can't have it both ways.  you can't lower taxes, increase spending and lower the debt.  impossible.  i don't care what Dubbya says

I agree, but slapping on an additional 9% tax on every dollar Americans spend, and taxing small businesses another 9% of their profit, while getting rid of all deductions and loop holes for things like business expenses is a horrible idea and would totally destroy the country.

For this president, that seems to be the goal.

We spend more money on "defense" than the rest of the world combined. Remove those countries that we would never go to war with and it's more like 100 times the rest of the world's. If somehow we could get the military industrial complex to just take a vacation or something

Dude, haven't you seen "Red Dawn" or "Invasion USA"? The Commies will take over if we spend one cent less on defense. And if we take one penny away from foreign to Israel or the Saudis, it will be a Caliphate..tomorrow!

That was generally true 5 to 10 years ago.

they do.  she says there are "millions" of libyan jokes.  she was reading some arab website yesterday about gaddafi getting killed, and she started laughing at something.  i asked her what was so funny.  she said it was a libyan joke.  i asked her to tell it to me, and the humor was apparently lost completely in translation.

I hate CNN. Perfect example of an outfit that rested on it's laurels...got smacked in the face by an upstart and never recovered.

Green Lantern really really sucks

As a comic book nerd who hasn't yet seen the movie, it greatly pains me to read this.

Noooooooooooo..............Rats!  I was looking forward to it.   :'(

I never liked Ryan Reynolds much. He's okay in RomComs. But he's not a REAL actor. He's terrible as Hal Jordan

i watched it on blu-ray last night and it was pretty good.
looking forward to the sequel, hopefully with a better villian like Sinestro now in yellow...  8)

its tough to do Green Lantern or Justice League in live-action, they have to use CGI for a lot of the characters.
looking forward to the CGI new Green Lantern TV series coming soon on the Cartoon Channel - they had a long preview clip of it on the Green Lantern Blu-Ray.
Captain America is coming out next week too on DVD and Blu-Ray.

it really was something to watch them implode, wasn't it?  they deserve their current state of suck.

and if i have to listen to anderson cooper whine about school bullying for one more minute, i'll start a compound in montana.  what is with this sudden obsession over school bullying?  i hear it everywhere now.  it's a collection of unrealistic people who expect kids to act like 52 year old women.  good luck with that.  it usually seems to come from those who have close ties to gay groups.  this isn't to say i support bullying.  i just think people need to choose their battles more wisely.

It's fun watching a putative monopoly just lose power and fade.
    Here's CNN's programming schedule
A   Soledad O Brien "Black in America: Vol 26-why don't those Honkies just die already"
B     Soledad O Brien "Latino in America: Vol 11-Goodbye Gringos"
C    Soledad O Brien "Whites are Evil"
D      Anderson Cooper "The Religious Right: Why do they hate gays? An "unbiased" anchor investigates"
E         Soledad O Brien  "Mulatto in America"

My very openly homosexual cousin said that Anderson Cooper is despised in their community because of his evasive answers to that nagging question. Maybe the bullying thing is a pennance of some sort.

A friend took me to her gym once where Anderson Cooper was a member. It was a rumor that the no cell phone policy was in effect because Anderson Cooper (what an annoying name!) only promised to join if gym management promised to enforce a no-cell phone rule. He was afraid people would take pictures of him, especially in the locker room. What an asshole. Don't go in public if you are such a wuss.

It wouldn't surprise me if 99% of the "occupy(fill in the blank)", well, if their parents come from the 1% they rail against. The Occupy Boston crowd just has "trust fund babies" written on so many of their faces.

       Same as it ever was...

This is from an outside observer, so bear that in mind. It seems to me that the accusation of "trust-fund" babies is what the conservative political machine is using to divert attention from the message, namely wealth inequality - something it's just not cool to talk about in this country. The machine is also doing this by focusing on posters which seem to bear no relation to Wall Street, e.g., 'Save the Whales!' in order to imply that the people are just a disorganized bunch of wanna-be hippies. The funny thing is that this protest caught the conservative machine totally by surprise. They had to use the standard canned responses to play catch-up. Of course, the right-moderate poolitical (a typo, but I like it) machine is happy to let them fumble around because a focus on wealth inequality is not what they want, either - no matter how tarred they are with the 'socialist' brush.

Of course, this was the country whose revolution did away with titles and nobility - but now, whose social mobility lags far behind 'Olde Europe,' and whose wealth inequality is eerily reminiscent of the Gilded Age. "Buy American" has long ceased to be possible or even desirable. What we were told was the dawning of the Great Age of the Service Economy is moving overseas, too. I suspect many of the OWS crowd are college graduates who can find only unemployment, rather than jobs. Don't even go there, because the truth is that even McDonalds can be picky in this economy, and often, they prefer older workers who can't afford to retire. Welcome to Wal-Mart. Even those jobs which were supposed to be recession-proof, like nursing, are experiencing hiring freezes and lay-offs (well, as fewer people have employer-provided health insurance since they don't have a job...you do the math). I suppose they could go pick the fruit of the fields, but oh yeah, the drought/floods (depending on your location) destroyed most of the crops this year - and the Bread Basket of the World is well on its way to becoming a net importer of food, anyway. When I ask Americans about the realities of their situation, Conservative or Liberal, the response is something like, "Nuh-uh!"

Perhaps it is as Alexander Solzhenitsyn said, when trying to get college students to think about what they are being told (or not told) and why:

QuoteThe press can both stimulate public opinion and miseducate[sic] it...The press has become the greatest power within the Western Countries, more powerful than the legislature, the executive and judiciary. One would then like to ask: By what law has it been elected and to whom is it responsible?
