I agree. Jorch will take pokes at himself and post on Bellgab periodically and used to even call into the Gabcast back in the day. And, he's remained consistent, have to give him that. He's still broadcasting -- phoning it in -- but still on the air.

The really sad thing here is that if Hoagland had played his cards right at the beginning of the show, dropped the Mars and political bullshit, and just did a talk show he'd have been fine. There was a brief time where the show was quite good, and Hoagland was flat out the podcast equivalent of the Dick Cavett show.

Ah, yes...his Cavett persona. Seems like he was either Dick Cavett or Dick Gregory but always a Dick.  :D

Once a Dick, always a Dick.

well his hair tonics due take up a large part of budget

Ah yes, the "Old Spice" bill. Plus the insistence on getting the latest bolo tie that debuted in Paris (Texas) that month, the extravagant breakfast tab at Cracker Barrel, and the dry cleaning of the ascots and smoking jackets. Such is the curse of the bloated lifestyle of the rich and famous...

Yep things always went south when he strayed from the chill Cavettesque vibe by ... A) demanding hard evidence from some woo guest or B) demanding that some legit guest would accept his woo evidence.

Yep, there was a brief window of time in which RCH's show was some great stuff. Better than Art's new show and certainly better than C2C. A Dick Cavett show with funny technical problems and noises in the background, good guests, and good callers (mostly.)

Yes!  All he had to do was scale back the Mars talk, but he couldn't do it.  He could've dedicated one show per week on that solely.  But no.   It seems the political stuff gradually grew.  And yes, that needed to be nipped in the bud.  I've been listening to some of his shows I saved.  Most recently the Tim Russ one.  He was engaged, interested, and sometimes excited.  What a frustrating character Hoagster is.  Regardless...I still think Hoagland is by far a better interviewer than Noory.

LOL!  Braaps!  Meant to be endearing and not a slight against Hoagie.  I think he handled his on the job tech training quite well.  "A thing called a USB port..."  ;)

The ringing phone, the dog barks, the confusion manipulating his computer, the creaking of the chair, the BRAAPS. It was a golden moment in hair and time. Unfortunately, he couldn't hold it together and the con-man aspect just had to come out....  :'(

Absolutely right and absolutely frustrating. Hoagland is a better interviewer than Noory, and can be an interesting on-air personality, but he couldn't hold back the ego and just go with the flow as Art used to do. Don't make an interview about you, make it about the content that the guest has to offer and tease stuff from them. Hoagland, problematic and questionable history aside, could have made this show work very well if he'd have done certain things.

Pretty much, he missed the charm of that show during that period.

Yes and 1 of 5 shows is like really close to 19.5%!  He coulda branded it that way.

Dick's his own worst enemy, ego gets in the way. He's a fraud of course, and nuts, but in an entertaining and charming way. Jorch is a dull witted hack while Hoagie is quite intelligent. He could have a nice radio show where he could discuss science with real scientists, politics, culture and the paranormal but no his ego compels him to play the part of a diva of a scientist and he goes off the rails and probably is heavily medicated right now. I enjoy that because I'm fascinated by odd eccentric people but it's the reason he's limited himself to a two bit operation like Dark Matter and can't even keep that together. I don't think he's aware he's a fraud, he's managed to delude himself into believing every nutty thought he has. I wish somebody would do a documentary on him, somebody like a Michael Moore,  who could arrange for Hoagie to give a paper at some renowned astronomy conference at one of the great universities of Europe, watch him on stage presenting his conclusive proof of an ancient type 2 civilization on Mars. Just to see the reaction of the audience would be priceless.

I did not hurt myself! Much like Richard, I just had tons of work to do on a book and that comes first before Bellgab posting. Plus, I lost internet yesterday in a storm.

Are you working on a coffee table book?  Would that be the "Radio Hosts Who Quit?"  Would you sign a copy for me?  Lord knows that your sig will be a greater talking point than the contents.

Back when both shows were running simultaneously, I used to look forward more to Rich's show because MiTD was feeling a little stale with Art less interested in the conversations than even Jorch. I don't think people realize how much work goes into producing a quality radio show. It's basically a full time job without the financial compensation unless you're one of the big boys. Rich is getting up there in age and most likely decided he wants to engage in other pursuits. Still no reason to leave your subscribers hanging though.

He must be running low on cash then.

Yeah, with inflation there's really no such thing as a $10 crack whore anymore.

Stole my first car in 1962. Dick was my partner, he ripped out the ignition wires with his bare teeth and drank moonshine from a mason jar. I'll never forget those days.

A replay of something which hasn't happened yet?  Someone call John Tee-tor ... we've got another timeline issue.

I think that's still the generally accepted definition of remote viewing.

From the rational wikipedia article on Ken:

As a qualified avionics technician, Johnston was hired by Grumman Aircraft, principal contractor for the Apollo Lunar Module, to assist with cockpit and instrument development and training, in Houston. He has described his status at that time as a "civilian astronaut consultant pilot."

We had some strange ducks working in training when I was there but looking at his current pictures he doesn't look tamiliar. I wonder who we worked for in the "early shuttle program". I started in 82 on STS-4 and I dont remember him.
