Net neutrality repeal means you're going to hate your cable company even more

The Internet as we have always known it is an open platform for content, speech and information. Now the FCC is set to vote Thursday on a proposal by Republican Chairman Ajit Pai to obliterate the rules that keep it that way â€" and in their place, he offers almost nothing. He’ll wrest control of the Internet from the American people and hand it over to existing Internet service providers (ISPs) like Comcast, AT&T and Verizon, empowering them to generate new profits by restricting access.

Under Pai’s plan, ISPs can charge web companies for “fast lanes,” holding those who can pay ransom for better service and leaving little guys who can’t pay in the dust. Meanwhile, none of that money will be passed on to consumers in the form of lower rates. If anything, your rates are likely to increase.  As recently as last week, Comcast, the largest cable-ISP in the country, quietly dropped its promise not to charge for Internet fast lanes.

When the Internet came along it broke the Cable business model wide open. Suddenly, viewers at home saw an explosion of creative new content and voted with their clicks, not their wallets. Essential to the Internet’s growth was net neutrality: All (legal) traffic flowed at the same speed over the network, regardless of ownership or content.

No one wanted to see the big companies turn the Internet into the consolidated high-walled cable industry. So over two decades as the Internet grew up, the FCC made sure that it was protecting net neutrality principles. Republicans and Democrats agreed that some form of cop on the beat was needed to keep the companies in line and the Internet open. Until now.

Once Pai goes through with his plan to gut net neutrality, there is little anyone can do right now to stop the cable-ization of the Internet. And soon we’ll all be sighing: "Once upon a time, the Internet was seen as the insurgent 'outlaw' of 21st century media…"

Potentially there is a good side of this? Maybe the purported restrictions will get people off wasting so much time on facebook, porn, youtube vids, online gaming, netflix, insipid Hollyood tv 'programming,' etc and read a book, go outside, work, play a real sport or game, talk to people, volunteer, etc. Both for kids and adults, by the way. And for important things- research, commerce, trade, banking, markets, etc will pay for higher speeds. There could also be fast portals for schools and libraries for use in school etc.

Mobile phone providers already restrict access by limiting data. ISP’s already restrict internet speeds. You pay for what you can afford. Getting rid of the fake neutrality opens the internet up for more competition which benefits the consumer. No surprise the left supports fake net neutrality, dumbass lemmings.

U.S. Federal Communications Commission set to reverse net neutrality rules - Reuters

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission is expected on Thursday to rescind rules that were aimed at ensuring a free and open internet, as protesters gathered online and in front of FCC headquarters to oppose the change.

Commission Chairman Ajit Pai's proposal marks a victory for big internet service providers such as AT&T Inc, Comcast Corp and Verizon Communications Inc that opposed the regulations - popularly known as net neutrality rules - and gives them sweeping powers to decide what web content consumers can access.

Or text NET to 384-387 to contact Congress and stop the FCC.

Wooohooo the net is no longer neutrality! Such a disaster, we’re going to have to go back to the dark ages now, before net neutrality. You know, back when the net exploded from nothing and basically took over the world, all with no fake net neutrality.

Bravo!

Hey Z. I just saw you were in first place. Do you automatically pick up Foles or get to 're-select or just out of luck?

Back on topic: I'm sure all three will be to blame. They always are. Have you ever seen such a bunch of whiny "winners"?

No, it's just that you TrumpCrackers living in the country will find your access slower and your cost greater.  Congratulations.

Dumbass shits! Controlling the flow of traffic has been part of the internet since it was DARPANET. Idiotic pleabs.

The free market is what has made the internet what it is. Not stupid ass government limitations. If ISPs need “neutrality” then why not cell phone providers? Why not cell phone makers? Why not housing? How about gasoline neutrality? Maybe we need Amazon neutrality.

Neutrality is nothing more than price controls, and those don’t work. If you want to know how well they work, look at the cost of real estate in San Francisco. Their price controls have driven the cost of a studio apartment to $5,000 per month.

Instead of just believing everything your lemming media tells you, look around, use the brain god gave you. Fake “net neutrality” is nothing more than price controls and a way for demokkkrat politicians (the government) to get more control. EVERYTHiNG they do is about control.

Oh and if you have a shit about freedoms you’d be bitching about Facebook, Google, YouTube, all putting limitations on free speach. Free political speach.

Has the internet ended yet?

As a service to the greater bellgab community, we’re now happily going to provide a singular location in which we can provide access to all the evidence of the internet coming to an end due to ending fake net neutrality. In order to save money we’re going to utilize the same space as utilized by the evidence of Russian collusion. Are you readaaaaaaaaaaaay?

You’re welcome

Gd5150

So those on the left who claim to be in favor of so-called “net-neutrality” do so because they think everyone should be treated the same.

Does Google have to abide by search engine neutrality? The answer is no, those at the the top of search lists are there because they pay for it.

Does Amazon have to abide Amazon neutrality? The answer is no, those products at the top of the list are there because they pay for it.

Pro “net neutrality” advocates claim ISP providers will now control content. Did they do they before 2015 when “net neutrality” passed? No. Wanna know who who does control access to content? Left wing titans Google, Facebook, YouTube.

Does Obamacare practice healthcare neutrality? No. There are plans structured based on how much people want to spend. The amount they spend directly affects the healthcare they receive.

So brainless lemmings pushing for net neutrality can shut it because as usual they have no clue what there taking about.

Thanks for bringing back the search functionality!

Which will come first?
a: the internet will break because of no “net neutrality”.
b: Mueller will find evidence of Trump/Russia collusion.
c: Bitcoin will become a legitimate investment.
d: all of the above.

Answer: None of the above, it’s a trick question, as the sun will go supernova in 4 billion years incinerating the Earth 1st.

Won’t the earth be incinerated third?

"The World Wide Web will connect you to people from all over the world!" Ever notice how many people from your own local area you meet online? Then your state, nation, and region? But very few from "all over the world." Hmmm! I wonder if maybe it's been this way the entire time? I wonder if DARPANET is a social engineering weapon? Hmmm! "The enemy left this cache of ammo for us! I hope they're not squib loads!" DUMBASS!!!
