To me this kind of seems like some kind of weird social meme that's been going on since the 1980s because he was able to find out about clowns being spotted all the way back to the 1980s so therefore it must have been getting news coverage so it seems like people are doing this because they think it's funny and it ends up in the newspaper or online somewhere and then other people see it I think it's funny too so then they do it themselves which leads to other people doing it and so on and so forth and then more and more people report on it..

Somebody's going to end up getting shot because of this

I like the cut of your jib, sir.  Although I do not understand, the Candian rig, or whatever you call it (I think it's nautically sometimes a jackass-rig or something?)  I incidentally watched a documentary about the HMCS Karluk last night, and it seemed they had some real clowns aboard.  Not Sure how creepy they were.

I digress.  I seem to recall watching a documentary that addressed this very phenomena (among others) a while back, ah yes:

"Killer Legends"

To spoiler a bit (SPOILER ALERT, scroll down.  Ye were warned lad:)

There is a scene where the crew gets a professional clown to dress up and drive around in a van while they film people's reactions, as I recall most just pointed and laughed.  I thought it was creepy-funny too.

I wonder, how many of the Creepy Clown sightings are ICP (or juggalo) related?  There's something you decent, polite and tasty Canadians might be unaware of.  In these less civilised southern places we have a musical act called "Insane Clown Posse" their followers known as juggalos or juggettes, they are Mostly Harmless, but one never knows...

Kids today wouldn't know a creepy clown if it crept out of their closets in the middle of the night and harvested their kidneys without anesthetic. Or much worse, in the case of the guy in the last two photos.

I think the worst thing you can say about someone is, "Who's this clown?"  Because you're calling him a clown and also not one of the well-known clowns either.

Among other things, he was charged with violating a local law forbidding covering the face in public.    I'm guessing they don't get alot of Muslim women wearing niqabs there abouts.

I wonder where all the protesters are shouldn't they be protesting his arrest because clearly they trumped up charges against this guy..

Many southern states have laws against covering one's face. They were passed as a way of combatting the Ku Klux Klan.

Thanks Juan, that never occurred to me.  Makes sense now.

Not just in the Southern States but in several others also. Also not just related to the KKK but other agitators or terrorists (some people talked about but don't know it was ever used with the Occupy, BLM, and Anonymous stuff,) it depends on the state but often the provisions have a clause about "participating" in other crime, social agitation, or have an exemptions for things like Halloween, costume balls, religious reasons, etc. These kinds of laws seem to be pretty common around the, at least Western, world. (A recent example is to combat hooliganism around soccer games or certain Muslim garb and some of the European laws are even stricter in fines and charges than ours. Those nice socialists  ;))

So far the worst I heard was a clown getting beaten up with a bat and some arrests by police but considering how trigger-happy people seemed to be, both police and regular joes, I'm surprised a clown hasn't been shot. And, depending on the area, maybe even justifiably so (if the clown was trespassing, menacing, or attacking someone.)

I sense a new bellgab thread here.
