What is over the top?  Hmmm.  Recipes for cooking human flesh, maybe.

LOL

Anagrammy Snark

You know Anagrammy, that is not as close to over the top as my unpopular idea of printing cute T-shirts featuring gourmet kitten-based recipes.  Sorry, I am a vegetarian, but just think this an awesome idea, but I think lots of things are funny that other people don't.

A belated but necessary, "Hello, and welcome!" to all of the new people who have joined us recently. Sorry you only got the automated welcome message in your PM box. My life has been CHAOS for the last 30 days, and I've had very little time to hang out here. I hope that will change soon. Welcome again, and post often.

I've only seen a live show once at the Hwood Bowl, you don't go to listen to him sing because he slurs the hell out of his old songs so much that he's unintelligible, you go to have a sing-along.
If  you haven't notice I'm a Johnny Cash fan. :)

Don't I know it. I saw Dylan in St. Louis a few years ago, and his voice was about the equivalent of a whoopee cushion being flattened by a 400 pound man. Still, it was cool to see him in person, if not a little depressing.  ::)

Lovely Bones

My obligatory newbie post.

Started listening to Art back in the 90's, then found him retiring, returning, retiring, returning. . . .

Missed Art but tried to make a seamless transition to the Big Snore.  Epic Fail.  Wouldn't keep listening except for insomnia and masochism.

Do enjoy Ian and Knapp is growing on me.  Either one has greater interview skills in his little finger than GN has in his entire repertoire.  In fact, Ian having that break with reality the night he was doing the promo on Noory's show was more coherent than Noory.

But I digress.  First time poster, long time lurker here.  Enjoy so many of you, many good hours of laughs from you folks.

Welcome, "Bones", and all new coastgabbers.

anagrammy

Welcome to all!  We, the bitch moaners and criers can always use another wailer to swell the ranks.  Thank goodness there are more topics than George Noory Sucks....

Anagrammy

PS.  Could it be possible he is actually getting worse or is it my ears are just sensitized by Coastgabbing?

Same here, a few years back. He was dressed like Gram Parsons' corpse with a sinister pencil-thin mustache and rushed through the songs...it would generally take 30-45 seconds to recognize what the song was because even the easily identifiable lyrics were garbled. "Best show since the Rolling Thunder days" according to the obviously delusional sycophant next to me...

I met Bob Dylan in St. Paul Minn. Think it was 1976. He was sitting in a Hotel bar nursing some drink. I was walking by and said Bob Dylan. right? He responded, "Fuck Off".

One of my tender memories.

Shoulda tried the "Hey Zimmie" approach...probably the same result, but at least a bit of a shot at his vanity.

Greetings, CoastGab citizens. This is a standard introduction post. As I type this, I'm listening to George Noory asteroid porn.

I started listening to Coast to Coast in November or so; I had started working nights and found myself with little to do when I wasn't at work. Knowing my love for all things bizarre, a friend suggested C2CAM. I remembered hearing him talk about it a few times when we were teenagers, so I decided to at least give it a try.

To be blunt, what I stumbled upon was a delightful trainwreck of Ed Wood proportions, available to me, for free, every night. Indeed, Christmas had come early. C2CAM soon took over my life, and I began a running commentary on Twitter of the insanity presented on a nightly basis. A few friends joined me, and it became a sort of tradition. I plan to move this insanity to my personal website as soon as my life decides to become less hectic.

I stumbled across the CoastGab forums a month or two ago. Thanks to you guys, I checked out the old Art Bell broadcasts. Coast to Coast wasn't a dismal thing at one time. And, you know, whenever Ian Punnet or (sometimes) George Knapp is on, it's not so bad. Actually, it's pretty good -- even enjoyable! But I have to ask you guys -- what the hell is wrong with George Noory? Have you guys paused to consider the possibility that he's a Lizard Person?

I doubt lizard people would claim him.

QuoteI doubt lizard people would claim him.

They live at the center of the earth. Their standards can't be very high.

Hello, I am also a frustrated new member.
I officially think Richard C. Hoagland, UFO Phil, Noory, and Ian Punnet are undeniable assclowns. I miss Art. I don't miss Whitley Strieber. I love JC. I think Noory definitely wears an Ass Jacket and an Ass Purse. I think Ian is on a drug of some sort. Something is way out of place with that man. George Knapp has class and I enjoy him now and then. Come back Art Bell. The general i.q. of the average coast listener now resembles a lobotomy call-in talkshow. Radio Free America!

Theodoric

Hi guys, I have been lurking the site for more than a month now and spending many hours reading many of your opinions and discussions (mostly George hating, which I will address). I have even started to feel I am part of the community (although I am just a viewer) and for that reason wanted to involve myself and the introduction thread is the best place.

I started listening to Coast in February of this year ironically on a Friday open lines night (completely stumbled on it, oh wait no coincidences ::) ), I just was laughing so hard and kept muttering ‘what the hell is this’ to myself. Needless to say I became addicted, I just felt like each night I tuned in was just a ride without any idea of the destination (which was fun, entertaining and sometimes informative). I began to view George as nothing but a simpleton who was accepting of anyone’s idea (not a good interviewer and poorly spoken, but hey this is such a new experience I had little expectations). But then…

I heard about Mr. Bell and ended up finding the Mel’s Hole broadcasts (which I have read all of the discussion on this site but still completely love the story), and fell in love with Art and how his intrigue and natural responses to the interview was so refreshing from Noory seeming so disconnected from his interviews. Anyways I found you guys and I must try and not be so susceptible to your influence because I am beginning to despise Noory because of ALL OF YOU.  I feel like the analogy is C2C is our mother and the host is the father. Dad (Art) died but I was too young to experience him and now I have our step dad George and he doesn’t seem so bad because I have nothing to compare him to. But my sibling (this site) and some of the old family videos (old broadcasts) have shown me the dad was nothing short of a pure bad ass treating mom like a classy lady. And I’m starting to understand that Step-dad George is treating mom like a whore with his commercialization and is a complete embarrassment to the family. So that leads me to the point I’m going to stubbornly say George does suck but mainly in Art’s shadow.

Sorry for the story, I just wanted to explain I do not share the inherent hatred for George that many of you do but I completely see your side of it. I am so happy to be part of this community I have wanted to join for a while now, and I feel like I know most of you or at least through your posts.

Anyways thanks everyone for this great outlet, I share many of your opinions and better yet enjoy disagreeing with many others.
-Derek

Pretty cool introduction, I gotta say.  DO you always make entrances that are this dramatic?  If so, WOW!

Oh yeah. Hi.

Hey Theodoric, that's a nice first post ya got there

Theodoric, as a 'second generation' fan I can very much relate to everything you've said here. One thing, tho - C2C is technically Art's child - which makes it far creepier.

Creepier still is this isn't the only child Art walked away from!   ;)

Welcome Theodoric! Great first post.

Hi all

Wow, great community. Spent a while perusing the threads and simply felt compelled to post because so much of it resonated with how I feel.

Anyway, my journey into talk radio, C2C and esoteric subjects began around a year ago. Sadly, at the time, I was unaware of C2C. With little knowledge of its existence, I plodded along blindly, listening to Project Camelot's downloadable archive but it wasn't long before I felt like throwing up my ribcage, sharpening the bones and jamming them into Kerry Cassidy. I had to find something else beyond her stupidity and rudeness and one fateful evening, I found one of the many thousands of C2C's available on YouTube.

I was hooked and couldn't believe such a show existed. It was perfect, a huge step up on the amateur offerings of Camelot and of course, no Kerry Cassidy.

However - my first experience of C2C was that of George Noory as host. At first, I loved George; kind and seemingly a genuine nice guy. I tended to drift more towards his shows, unaware of Art Bell's existence and the history of C2C.

In time, as my listening material widened with every search, I was exposed to Ian Punnett, Art Bell and George Knapp. My first impressions of Punnett were very negative - why is he always questioning everything? Why the sometimes seemingly boring topics? I was ambivalent to George Knapp but my greatest discovery yet was Art Bell. Once again, first impressions were negative. He speaks strangely, he articulates differently and he's very curt sometimes. I slipped back into Snoory-mode, neglecting the other hosts for a while.

One day, I decided to give Art another try. The mistake I'd made immediately dawned on me. This guy is immeasurably brilliant, I thought. I kicked myself as to why I hadn't listened to more of his stuff earlier. Soon, my listening material was punctuated with Art's shows more often; What was once a Noory-dominated track list began to evolve. Art Bell, Art Bell, Art Bell.

I lapsed again, briefly... and then realised I could never go back. The difference between then and now is so vast, so evident that I really struggle to listen to Noory now. Sure, I concede he sounds like a nice guy but he just doesn't sound interested. He sounds scripted and sometimes unintelligible. Whereas Art could lift a boring topic and make it interesting, Noory can do the polar opposite. He's become disagreeable to me as my love for Art grew fonder.

Almost around the same time, I gave Punnett and Knapp another shot. I started to like Punnett and Knapp more as I listened, partly because they would challenge, they would ask questions and they were coherent and intelligent. Finally, it felt like my IQ was challenged with the topics, which I loved.

One great observation that someone made and that finally sealed my opinion was that of the quality of callers. I listened intently recently between the difference of callers between Art and Noory, and the quality was stratospheric. Art's following appeared to be far more savvy, knowledgeable and intelligent. Noory's callers are in general, pretty dumb. If that isn't an indication to how far the show has slipped, then I don't know what is.

I'll listen to Noory if the topic is interesting but I cannot emphasise how dramatic a u-turn I made once it finally dawned on me. Art was brilliant; the raspy laugh, the sense-of-humour - even the curt, no-nonsense attitude towards hoaxers and morons; he ran a truly enjoyable, intelligent and entertaining show.

So, the sad part. Eventually, I'll run out of Art Bell material. I'm absolutely gutted I missed his shows in his pomp and I'm sad he might never host again. Recently, even I noticed his airbrushing from history. Still, we all know the truth.

On another note, as I'm from the UK, I'm unaware of any similar show here. Someone might be able to put me straight, but I don't think there is anything around which is comparable. Therefore, in that instance, I'd like to think in the next couple of years I might do something to change that. I'll stick around on here as well and hopefully, once I've got to know a few of you a bit better and assuming some of you want to contribute, I'll try and make it happen. A country of the UK's size should not be without such a show.

If it does happen, I'm going to make damn sure everyone knows who my inspiration was!

One final thing; Once again, another thing that struck a chord with me. From the first tme I heard Richard C Hoagland, I disliked him. People on here have described him better than I will, but he just comes across as nauseatingly arrogant, self-absorbed and worse still, Noory never challenges him. I suppose it's like the LMH situation; it's any easy night when they're on as guests as GN just lets them ramble on about anything as Noory watches the hands move around the clock until he leaves the studio. Oh, and David Wilcock. Please, the pair of you - shut up!

Anyway, hello. A large introduction, but hopefully one that some of you can relate to :)

Tara

Welcome !  You've come to the same conclusions as I have regarding C2C, Noory and Art Bell.  I wouldn't mind it if a Brit started a first rate esoteric/paranormal radio show.  Anyone!  It wouldn't take much to give Noory some competition.

Welcome 'stache, and greetings from the Great White North.

Rob Simone, who fills in occasionally on coast, has a regular show in olde London town.  The station is Resonance 104.4

Panic on the streets of Birmingham
I wonder to myself
Could life ever be sane again ?"

BobGrau

greetings from scotland!

damn, that's the sort of first post I wish I'd made...

I have enjoyed listening to Glastonbury Radio.  It may not be comparable to Art Bell, but it is fun.
