BellGab is now funded entirely by user donations.

Just today, this thread was flagged by Google AdSense for "dangerous or derogatory content":
http://bellgab.com/index.php?topic=11801.0

For about five years, this forum has used Google Adsense as its primary source of revenue.  As some of you know, I spend several hours per month fighting with Google as they flag the forum's content as "inappropriate" while threatening to discontinue ad serving on the forum.  In each instance, one of two things happens: I either successfully argue on your behalf or I have to remove the content.  It's time to pursue a third outcome.

Google is manipulating and impeding free thought all across the web, and the prevalence of Adsense enables them to do it by threatening website owners with the termination of their Adsense accounts.  BellGab is no longer going to participate in that system.

Beginning now, this website will be entirely funded by user contributions.  Hopefully your generosity will seamlessly replace Google Adsense.  Either way, I'll save all of the hours I spend each month battling these people and their soulless algorithms designed to manipulate you.

If this forum is a part of your daily existence, click "Donate" in the menu at the top.  This will be the last time I pester you about it.  Thank you.

You mean you can't grow a money tree? Can't we take Senda round as a circus act and you cream a percentage off the punters?

I can do another night on the city hall steps if you want me to? Shall I wear my long dress with the slit up the thigh or my leather mini dress?

Actually, when you put it that way... yes.  I did.  We all did.

There's no need for you to prostitute yourself too. The brethren will provide. Sure, I might need to sit on a very soft cushion and take tepid warm baths for a while but needs is musts.

Wow, I did not know about Google AdSense and what they try to do.  That sucks big time.  I just learned about Twitter shadow banning today.  Not exactly "above board."

Google, Facebook and Twitter are, according to the Supreme Court, the modern equivalent of the "town square" and I want them legally compelled to treat all legal speech equally.

edit: The irony of the average Twitter/Facebook/Google employee slitting their wrists over "net neutrality"...

Goddammit, where are people supposed to go for ads for Asian and East Eurpoean mail order brides?

If you were seeing a lot of that, it probably meant BellGab was not allowed by Google to display ads from more "legitimate" advertisers.  The "legit" advertisers pay more, btw.

I hadn't known.  Swishy, did you know this was going on?  But the post wasn't as bad as some others have been.

What about raising the bar to the level of common decency with regular rules about respect/profanity/obscenity?  Does the bar have to be so low?  After all, if a person has to resort to sexualizing/profanity/obscenity to get their point across, how valuable is the point?

Women here, the few that are, might like to participate more if men's sexual expression/sexual targeting/sexual frustration didn't dominate so much.  If violaters are banned, moderation would be more manageable.  I could help if needed, as long as repeat offenders are warned then kept out.

I didn't like the ads stalking my screens, especially so fast.

I don't like Google for over-controlling everything.  They control my tablet, too.  They act like I should be logged in to them, just to view web pages and stuff.  Aren't users IPs enough to track users by!

But civility is decency.  I'm pretty sure Art was civil.  I just don't see the point in being rude to Jews, gays, foreigners unpopular political parties, women and other minorities...  Shouldn't every civil person be welcome to post without harassment?

Would some of the other scrubby Adsense competitors work?  Like Chitika or whatever?  Or is not worth even mucking with?

I'd prefer not to be bothered with enforcing it.

It's not about all that, Jojo. It's about preserving freedom. If we let that start sliding then pretty soon it's 1984 again, boots on faces and all. ;)

It might be worth it from a pure dollars/cents perspective, or maybe not... but I'd like to move away from the third party ad support model if possible.  It just seems to open the door to bad things happening.

I don't doubt you but do you have a citation for that claim? I do worry about the Googles/Amazons etc controlling/steering politics and society but they are private companies so could have rules etc and you aren't "forced" to use them. But though, considering some of their fundings (initial, tax-abatements, government contracts, etc) and now use in public, taxpayer funded schools for data, projects, and communications I could also see any argument that have become some quasi-public entity like a PPP or etc, or even a utility maybe?

Precisely why we need a new telecommunications act to preserve free speech on the internets. Not only do these leftwing corporations limit political speech, they do it without telling anyone.

It's sad that it has come down to this.

Some years ago, I decided to sit down to pee. Not because I had to, but because it was obviously a more luxurious way to urinate. However, I still get "Morning Wood!" Elbows on knees; Cadillac ride!

Heh, exactly.  "Net neutrality," another example of the statists using "1984" as a playbook again.  Make sure you term something as the exact opposite of what it really is.  We'll all feel warm and fuzzy as we're led to "the comfort chambers."

Idk about that. There is this Gab.ai thing (but I can't figure it out and haven't, really tried to do so. I only signed up because I thought at the time it was an MV vehicle, off-shoot of BG.) There are the supposedly "non-tracking" search sites like duckduck, startpage, etc but (I think) they use the infrastructure of google etc but simply "hide" that you search for it. So if they hide results? There was bizarrely a jewtube (still up but trademark blocked by google in a legal action) and various types of other video hosting sites but still hosted by the big guys so suspect. Then there is the Tor etc stuff. Which is questionable maybe or just foreign hosting site options, but ISPs can block those (like they do with torrent sites. There are work arounds but still, likely, you are tracked.) Idk. Recall cable was found to be a utility and so had to have "community access" (hence Alex Jones and that dude with porn in NYC back when, and C-SPANs) but not sure now with the options and "free market" ideas- that did bring in faster access in some places....

I remember when I used to run forums. No advertising. No adsense. No donations. Just 35 bucks a month for hosting and no sign-up or registration. Faggotism run rampant. I was happy. I just didn't know it at the time. I wouldn't say I "ran" them actually. I just set them up and trolled my own shit with the rest of the Tards.

Before that; an IP address and a BBS server in a closet! A 486SX ought to be enough for the two dozen users we have.

Those Silicon Valley fascists loved Obama's ''net neutrality''.  It placed the restraint on internet service providers, but not those making decisions about the content we see - Google, FakeBook, Twitter.

We have laws that allow government regulation in certain situations for the common good.  For example natural monopolies, the prevention of (heh) collusion and monopoly.  The airwaves are regulated.  Roads are regulated.  The environment is regulated.  What a person can build on his own property is regulated.  All sorts of industries are regulated.

Some regulations are necessary and control the worst excesses of capitialism, or step in where the private sector fails.  There is nothing wrong with that.  Other regulations are destructive and counter productive.  It seems to me the internet - as important as it has become to everything - needs a certain amount of ''beneficial''regulation.  What that may be is open for debate but it should certainly include those companies that dominate the internet, and prevent them from partisan censorship.
