Politics / Re: The Ukraine CrySis - Crimea River

Quote from: SredniVashtar on October 29, 2022, 05:39:31 AMWhat is wrong with it? You have a system where you elect your representatives to represent you. You don't have a system where you make decisions by referenda on every issue. Do you want a system where the ones that shout the loudest are automatically listened to? What's a 'good portion' anyway? You all distrust elections these days, why should we trust opinion polls either? Are the other side pretending that they would force Ukraine to make peace? No, so your argument is phoney. If you don't like an administration then you vote them out the first chance you get. If you want a different system then, if enough people agree with you, you can do that too. What you seem to want is a version of mob rule, so long as the mob are on your side, which can never be guaranteed.

To be blunt, Russian propaganda is so deep now that a lot of people don't even realise they are being played. The whole moon landing hoax was a Russian psy-op designed to discredit the Americans. They are very good at playing on the fears of paranoid, rather uneducated people.  You and MD are prime examples of the way people get suckered. You don't have to be a cheerleader for the West to understand that allowing someone like Putin to run around unchecked is bad for everyone. All you are doing is putting your head in the sand. It's an acknowledged psyschological condition called 'normalcy bias' where people can't allow themselves to accept that a situation is serious so they pretend that it's all completely normal.

What exactly do you do when someone assumes that you are a pussy and won't stand up for yourself under any circumstances? Why bother even having a military if you aren't even prepared to use it as a bluff any more? Are there any circumstances when you'd stand up to Putin? Does he have to annex the whole of Eastern Europe before you'd even begin to acknowledge that there is a problem? Seriously, I'd love to know if you 'peace at any price' types have any red line at all.

Generally, I don't attribute the trait of stupidity to you. So I have to assume that you are purposely trying to twist things and just failing rather than honestly not grasping what is written. I didn't call for a referendum. I called on at least one member of the government to say what probably 30% of the population is thinking. (Fine- say 20%... Or even only 10% who would like the war to end. No matter the number, somebody should represent those voices.)

I didn't call on the representatives to negotiate a peace deal themselves. I said that asking for a change in policy is reasonable.

Are you willing to follow your own advice if Trump is elected again? You will just say that he is elected and everybody should kowtow to his whims until the next election? Elected representatives should not protest or disagree with his policies, because he is the "boss?"

A final, honest question for you. Are you willing to send your children or nephews or grandchildren to fight in this war? Is it actually worth a personal sacrifice to you- or just worth the sacrifices of others?

The mood of the protests was very positive. Yes- they were protests, but the love and acceptance and community was something that I had never seen before. I'm not somebody who would engage in civil disobedience. But if I were, I'm sure that I would have been overcome by emotion more than once over the course of a couple of weeks.

I hear rumours that there was a flat bed truck in a ditch in the middle of a highway in southern Alberta. And they tell me that there was a DJ playing on that flatbed with a ditch full of Canadians dancing into the night. They also tell me that there was a man on a unicycle who had to turn from the crowd and dry his eyes when he was overcome with emotion more than once. They say that it was an experience this particular person said he will never forget.

It is a soviet style show trial. The conclusion is already known (the Liberal judge will say it was justified.) This is now just for show and to satisfy the requirement for an inquiry to be held by any government that invokes the EMA (war measures act.)

When it started, we were told that it was for terminally ill patients only to save them suffering at the end of life. And anybody who said it was a "slippery slope" was just paranoid. Now we have people who are homeless using it and those who are depressed.

You know the only politician that I have heard come out swinging against this? Maxime Burnier. He talks about how we should not live in a society that treats individuals with no compassion and that the ill should not be discarded with no dignity (he was referring to a man who was terminal, not able to work and about to be evicted with no place to live.)

And I'm supposed to look on this as a good thing.

Have you ever read Chris Hedges "Death of the Liberal Class?" I found it to be one of the books that kind of shifted by thinking and put into words what I had been observing.

Seriously, do you need someone to explain that to you? It would be like you deciding that you want to negotiate with Putin to make Canada a part of the new Russian empire. Is everyone supposed to say, 'oh cool, we're all Russians now, eh?' You and  MD should just move to Russia, if you're so enamoured of it.

A good portion of the American people would like to see peace negotiated. These are representatives of the people asking the "leader" to negotiate peace. What is wrong with this action?

I suppose in China the "representatives" of the people cannot bring a differing opinion and make a request. Surely we are not that far along in the authoritarians wet dream that we can't have representatives of the people requesting that the "boss" seek peace or change policy?

You appear to have the old Mcarthy disease where you see Russians and Russian sympathizers everywhere (or perhaps you are closer to "if you are with us, you are against us" Bush?) Enamored with Russia because I will not cheer lead your war?

I love the number of empty seats. It reminds me how many people (including those who are paid to pay attention to world events and set policy) make every effort to remain willfully ignorant and avoid uncomfortable truths.

*Did you happen to see the Biden white house responding to the letter by 30 "progressives" to work towards peace? They basically said that Zelensky is the only one who can decide when or even if we ever sit down to negotiate peace . More or less, the war will continue and the west are nutless cucks who will go wherever the Ukraine leads and never set their own policy in regards to this war.

I love how absolutely screwed up the MSM really is. Articles like this help me to understand the people I'm surrounded by who consume the so called news saying "chilling moment deranged Putin oversees... WWIII drills"

And two weeks ago when NATO kicked off their nuclear drills (read WWIII drills) there were no headlines of the "deranged Biden" (though demented would likely be a better descriptor at this point.)

The Ruters article below actually mentions that the Russian "Grom" exercise occurs annually like the Nato exercise. And yet the Sun reports it like it is an escalation and Putin preparing for WWIII to ramp up more fear from the gullible. I live in clown world at this point.

However... "so she packed them up and went partying again, first to Saudi Arabia..." Really? that is where you go for internationally renowned nightclubs and a party atmosphere? Were all of the flights to Afghanistan or Iran booked up?

It is also very specific information that she was the first one to catch Covid and it could not have come from her kid. Maybe or maybe not- but you would have to almost be a member of her household to know or writing fiction and what you want to be true.

I'm sure she is a class 1 certified nut job. But the writing just does not ring true.

F... Where the hell was Christian God?

A question that I have been pondering. I know that I had posted Apocalyptica "I'm not Jesus" before. The lyrics are thought provoking. "I'm not Jesus- I will not forgive." Well, that seems like a given (and still leaves open the possibility that despite the inability of the abused child to forgive that somehow Jesus may.)

But you also have "I'm not Jesus- Jesus wasn't there." Yet it would seem that he must have been present. Just as one has to assume that he was in the gulags, concentration camps and early Roman prisons. The lyrics themselves lend themselves to the interpretation that Jesus does exist- as could God "if God is looking down on me." I actually don't consider it to be an "anti-religious" song.

Both Peterson and Taylor seem to be posing the same question- Where was Christian God or Jesus? The lazy and easy answer is that he could not have been there. I suppose as bad as that abuse is, a gulag or camp would be worse. American rabbi, Dr. Reeve Robert Brenner wrote "The Faith and the Doubt of Holocaust Survivors." It turns out that many had their faith continue unimpeded, some atheists turned to God (and some turned away.)

Being as this is a Peterson thread, I keep meaning to pick up a book by one of his often mentioned authors Solzhenitsyn, who seems to have faith despite time in the gulag.

If you will excuse the rambling, I suppose this is to say that in the end, Jesus was there- Peterson's "Christian God" was there. But I do still wrestle with the question "in what capacity?"

Quote from: Dr. MD MD on October 24, 2022, 09:20:12 PMSo, only officially sanctioned whistleblowing then?  ???

I think that whistle blowing is out all together. It is too embarrassing. How is an editor of the Washington post supposed to judge if the information is harmless enough to release?

I believe the idea is that the government will tell us everything that we need to know. And the information that is with held is only kept secret because it is better for us (and not for them) that it remain secret.

Of course if there is something advantageous for them to release unofficially, then the government itself should leak it to the media outlets.

Quote from: Yorkshire pud on October 24, 2022, 07:44:01 PMYes, I think it disgusting the interpreters were left hanging out to dry. (Oddly when drump was in the WH I said the same, but met with 'well, they knew the risks, we don't want them in the US' , on this forum! As well as local agents working for NATO (So no need to be so sanctimonious). I also thought it revolting how drump told the then Russian foreign sec and Ambassador about an embedded Israeli agent working inside Syria. As well as releasing satelite photos of an Iranian missile site. Who knows who has seen and read the stuff he took to his golf clubs.

You have no idea how many agents have been killed, or their families. Nor will you, and even one is too many. Deep State bollox, it's all fair game eh as long as an idiotic conspiracy theory has legs.

You don't think that if there were a clear link between the death of a diplomat and Assange that they would be trumpeting that from the rooftops? You think that they would cover it up because it might make Wikileaks look bad?

As for "worth one death." Yes- it would be. Giving evidence of war crimes might come with a cost. I would prefer it did not- but what was released was pretty amazing (and I don't mean the list of the top 100 British operatives working deep undercover in the Iraqi ministry of defense.)

Quote from: Yorkshire pud on October 23, 2022, 03:43:14 PMIf Assange is an innocent lamb, then so is Bradley/Chelsea Manning and Snowden. But it's unlikely the trumpers would sympathise with Manning, because hey, he is now a she and that really screws up their version of Utopia.

Presumably releasing secrets is okay? Including outing operatives, those in deep cover and foreign agents still working in respective adversarial countries, who, if outed would face certain torture and death as well as their families.
Not only are they "innocent." But all three are heroes. And that includes Chelsea. And I will add Glenn Greenwald for breaking the Snowden story and Laura Portrais for travelling and documenting it.

Being as you appear to be very concerned about the deep state operatives, can you please do a quick list of the top 10 British / American / Canadians killed and tortured as a result of Wikileaks reporting. I'll get you started.*

Quote from: Yorkshire pud on October 23, 2022, 11:25:14 AMIf that isn't a good enough reason, then disseminating secret files he doesn't own nor have authority to possess on the internet...

At one point in time, that was called "reporting" and a thing that actual journalists engaged in. You know- exposing the corruption they now partake in, reporting on war crimes that they now cover up, printing the truth about the politicians they now take bribes / grants from?

Quote from: Yorkshire pud on October 23, 2022, 11:25:14 AMHe's lucky; if he'd been a Russian doing it in Russia with Russian secrets and found out he'd be dead by now. At least in Belmarsh he gets three meals a day.

You are aware that the CIA had a plan to kidnap and kill him, right? The same government whose boots you appear to lick were going to stomp on his neck.

It's amusing. Have the news outlet that you frequent (the BBC, perhaps?) bothered to mention that two weeks ago the European Parliment put him on the short list for the  Sakharov Prize? And you are cheering his imprisonment. I'm guessing you were a fan of locking the criminal Mandela away as well because he was "disagreeable."

What does the European parliament have to say? "As one of the co-founders of the WikiLeaks association, Assange provided world-leading newspapers with documents concerning war crimes, arbitrary detentions, human rights violations and torture. He has been held in prison in the UK and is currently facing extradition to the United States to stand trial on charges of espionage and computer misuse." Funny those same "world leading newspapers" are now acting as a propaganda arm to convict him.

But I suppose it would be better if those things were not reported on...

Quote from: pate on October 20, 2022, 08:54:06 PMWe should probably figure out who needs to get you sworn in so that you may begin the important work that is on the Table before you.

If your investigation takes you in a wildly divergent direction, I say follow the leads.  They will inevitably take you to Rome, of course, but it is the journey that counts.

Hear, some Muzaks that may (or may not) assist you:

-p

The Muzaks reminded me that in addition to swearing in the required individuals, we must outline the porpoise of the inquiry as well as the consequences of the conclusions. Generally democratic republics list execution as likely outcomes- but I'm not sure that is the correct road to go down at this time (unless we are relying on the world being so outraged over Russia and the Ukraine that they will not notice.)

As for the porpoise of the inquiry- perhaps we should leave it lurking beneath the surface until ready to spring an October surprise? We may just concentrate on gathering evidence to support our desired concussions at this time?

Yours ever, kdubb
What kind of puritan are you? Perhaps you are residing in 1952 as opposed to 2022 where corruption is not only accepted, but celebrated and rewarded?

WE need only employ the FBI and other alphabet agencies to suppress the story before the election. There is no need for anybody else to know of the butter tarts or other promised comforts.

*With that said, I am happy to share the bribes responsibilities with Laser. It would probably be best. He can investigate the transgressions that take place in America, and I can focus on the commonwealth counties.

Quote from: pate on October 19, 2022, 04:02:55 AMAfter a full investigation of course:  I am calling for a non-partisan, fair-minded, and MAPA-approved Independent Counsel to step forward and head up this investigation.

At first I was concerned that offering my services as the lead independent investigator might look suspicious. But then Trudeau appointed Justice Rouleau to head the investigation into him suspending our charter of rights and freedoms and literally bringing in martial law. He appointed a judge worked for the liberal party when his father, Pierre stepped down in the 80's. It might appear to any rational person be a kangaroo court and a show trial- but that is what we get in Canada now.

So, in the fine Canadian tradition of not caring how obviously tainted an inquiry may be, I would be willing to take charge of this one.

These are the people who worry about trans, gay, black, native and any other minority feeling comfortable in our health care system.

While we pay these individuals around a million a year (plus all of the costs of their programs and travel and benefits) our actual health care system is falling apart with emergency rooms in some cities closing on the weekend for lack of staff.

But at least there is a poster for when they are open again on Monday as well as buttons that people can now order to inform me of preferred pronouns.
