I remember Jim McMahon would routinely head butt his teammates (helmets on) before games to get himself/the team psyched or what not.  I think this "ritual" probably has more to do with his problems than opposing defenders did.

You're probably right. QBs don't get their bells rung as often as other players. Even back in the 80's, when it was open season on a QB's head. Today they have rules in place to discourage helmet to helmet hits.

Thanks for the info. Naming your rugby team after a flowering shrub (Waratah) is pretty funny. It doesn't exactly  strike fear into the opponents hearts, now does it. Unless the Waratah has poisonous barbs to trap and eat human flesh, I'm not very intimidated!
