Congratulations to the great Manny Pacquiao!!

Best pound-for-pound fighter in the world!!

This is really tragic. I HAVE to say, though, the human body is not designed to run long distances. it`s designed to walk long distances. We are not wolves, we are men.

God bless the dead, and the survivors. just so tragic.

A good article on Deadspin on
"What It Was Like To Play In The Most Violent NFL Game Ever"

Bears vs Raiders, 1984.

"The Bears didn't escape the game unscathed, either. Jim McMahon, their quarterback, would get knocked out early in the third quarter. When McMahon went down and NBC's cameras showed him wincing on the sideline, play-by-play man Dick Enberg said the injury was a "bruised back." The actual diagnosis? A lacerated kidney. ...McMahon's agent, Steve Zucker, summed up his client's condition this way: "I went down to the locker roomâ€"this was in the middle of the gameâ€"and I found Jim there, standing at the toilet, in his pads, pissing blood."

and another one about Buddy Ryan's 46 defense.
"It was Plank who gave the defense its name: the 46. Many fans assume it came from the on-field alignment of players, as with the 3-4 defense and the Cover-2. In fact, 46 means nothing more than we're coming hard, in the way of the man who wears that number, Doug Plank."

That is brutal! J.McMahon & many former NFL players are now paying the price for playing in the NFL. The numerious hits and concussions during their relatively short career, have resulted in long term memory problems. among other health issues.

That scares the shit out of me as I am training to run in an half marathon later this year. I also mentioned in another thread that I will be running a 10 mile run today so if you don't hear from me again you know what happened. Thank you for your well wishes. Please take care of the forum in my absence.

I remember Jim McMahon would routinely head butt his teammates (helmets on) before games to get himself/the team psyched or what not.  I think this "ritual" probably has more to do with his problems than opposing defenders did.

You're probably right. QBs don't get their bells rung as often as other players. Even back in the 80's, when it was open season on a QB's head. Today they have rules in place to discourage helmet to helmet hits.

Ah you know your homo-erotic macho sports well.

Rugby is a barbarian sport played by people with brain damage.

Australian Rules Football is the only game in my town. Here are some highlights from my teams (Melbourne Demons in the red and blue) victory on the weekend.

Heh, heh. Yeah these dudes are crazy. Running around without pads or helmets!

According to this:

Melbourne has a team.

Also, WTF is a Waratah and a Brumbie?

I like the Cheetahs and  Bulls. Both from South Africa. Only because they broadcast the  live games at a reasonable hour on Saturday mornings. This is my second year watching SR and I'm finally getting familiar with the game play, rules and terms they use, like: ruck, maul, scrum, knock on and try

b_dubb

My freshman year in college the guy across the hall was on the rugby team.  His number one hobby was smelling his own farts. And I'm not kidding.

We need to make rugby more dangerous so we can shrink that population.  Who's with me?

What I meant to say is that my state (Victoria) and city (Melbourne) is an Aussie Rules state. Rugby and soccer take a back seat. The two northern states above mine (New South Wales where Sydney is and Queensland where Brisbane is) are the two Rugby states. The rest of the States (Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and Northern Territory) are all Aussie Rules states.

A Warratah is a native plant: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waratah

A Brumby is a type of free roaming feral horse: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brumby

The try is the same as a touchdown and the scrum is this:

A few years ago a player was banned from playing because he would stick his finger up peoples bums in the scrum. Charming. Fucking rugby.

Thanks for the info. Naming your rugby team after a flowering shrub (Waratah) is pretty funny. It doesn't exactly  strike fear into the opponents hearts, now does it. Unless the Waratah has poisonous barbs to trap and eat human flesh, I'm not very intimidated!
Watch out! those large shrubs look angry today. heh heh.

The way the scrum is set up, the finger bang guy must have been probing dudes from his own team!  What was the name of the team?
The Tasmanian Mud Fingers!?  Now that is quite intimidating! :o

One of the worst crashes you’ll see. A miracle that no track workers or the driver were killed. She had a fractured spine and completed successful surgery today with “no fear of paralysis whatsoever”.

Awesome Monday Night Footblah game last night.  Even though my Chiefs lost (what's with the penalties???), it was apparently a record combined score for MNF.

What a fourth quarter!  Although I think they lost it in the 1st quarter with the 8 or 9 penalties, and the two intarceptions didna help either.  Still say my Chiefs are Superbowl bound.

Metron2267

Minus a lot of hands penalties to open with they ought to have won. If Eric Berry gets back in any kind of condition things are looking good.

Tyreek is a freak!

It pains me that they (basketball fans in Toronto) are happy, really happy. Hate the raptors.
