Liberia quietly releases its last Ebola patient, and the apocalypse is over.

Global death toll... under 10,000.

Try not to get so hysterical next time.

http://m.bbc.com/news/world-africa-31744616
And there were less people immolated in cages by peaceful Muslims or shot up in European businesses or stores etc but that spurred countless news also. The issue is the potential threat, especially if it mutated like Reston and became airborne or the "nastiness" of the incident (if it bleeds, it leads.) I think one of the main reasons the press stopped the stories is that it wasn't as hemorrhagic as other outbreaks so the less "bleeding from every orifice" type of pictures available. in those countries that already are in such shambles. (Now they are even worse off.) And, while it is fun to be cavalier about human lives to the family of the people who did die (whether at the hands of Muslims or by Ebola) there is not much comfort in the fact that "only" 10,000 died. And neither threat is not over....

Nicely deflected; Read back at some of the hysteria on these very boards when the two nurses were flown back to the USA to Atlanta. 10000 isn't good; no-one is saying it is, but it could have been far far worse if not for the very nurses and other medics that certain people on this forum were berating as being irresponsible for not dying in West Africa and going back home instead.

That's the left wing/liberal/commie/Alinskysky BIG media lies. at least 8 million Amercans alone died..

Didn't they?
No!! Only 35,000 Americans died.  Oh, never mind....that was just gun deaths.

Less than 10,000 Ebola victima, almost exclusively in a continent largely free of medicine or literacy.

And people were pissing their knickers, terrified that we'sa alla gunna die-sa!

That last part was in the style of Jar Jar Binks so that even the easily frightened fuckwits who were screaming PANDEMIC can have a bit of a laugh at their reaction now.

Congrats on spinning this into some shit about Muslims, though...

Glad the ebola issue went away quietly. People's overreaction to willingly allowing a pandemic disease into the US was clearly silly. It's not like it was going to kill anywhere near the number of people the evil Keystone Pipeline will kill.

I asked our resident flag snappers a week or so ago how they squared they're patriotism with giving a foreign company the right to condemn land owned by American farmers for a pipeline that would carry foreign crude oil that would consume scarce US refinery capacity before being exported to China.  No one answered the question. There's no hysteria on the side of opposing the Keystone XL, just blind ideologues on the other side.  Besides, with the drop in crude prices, TransCanada will soon be sweating the approval might go through and they'd be stuck with a white elephant.

Least willing of all to let Ebola spread here was President Obama and the CDC. Instead of your craven, Chicken Little "seal the borders" and "round up the darkies" panic, a thoughtful, methodical, rehearsed approach was used to stamp out domestic exposure and to take the fight back to Africa.

Now, given your failure in predicting doom and gloom, you want to salvage a talking point by linking it to that useless scar of a pipeline?

Government worked (except in Texas, where the conservative mindset  of "no insurance, no treatment" turned an Ebola infected patient onto the streets); will you be joining me in thanking President Obama for keeping his cool during this (very) brief crisis? Or is your disappointment that Americans didn't die to great to overcome?

Hell of a dilemma. Teeth grinding and mutterings because millions of Americans didn't die to give an excuse  for more Obama bashing. They didn't die but they won't give Obama the nod because it would be too much.

This latest outbreak of Ebola is not over, though it has been usurped by Muslim's peaceful activities, especially ISIS and those nice Muslims in Europe, in our media. Now why beheadings and immolations in Libya and the middle-east make news but the beheadings in Mexico don't I don't quite understand. I guess because they aren't Obama's "dreamers" or something.

CDC, if you trust those folks, says increased cases in Sierra Leon and Guinea but good news in Liberia with no new confirmed cases.

So, to sum up, you're completely wrong on Ebola, you won't acknowledge it, so now it's time to use conservative code like SARS and Bird Flu to further your anti-gubbmint case?

This is why conservatism will die.

That seems like a cogent argument!

{I tots hyde}

I just read from the WHO site that October 4 marked the first week since the Ebola outbreak of no new cases.  Twenty-eight thousand cases and over eleven thousand deaths total.  Yet no one seems to much care now that only Africans are affected.

Ebola update. More violence against people trying to help natives fight Ebola. More migrants from Ebola countries caught at borders. The usual.

https://www.state.gov/ebola/  <-- how about securing our border? Monitoring travelers, "refugee" applicants, or VISA requests from Ebola countries?

https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/alert/ebola-democratic-republic-of-the-congo <-- always seems to be behind the latest headlines. I get an agency want to ensure correct information and also weigh about unnecessarily alarming people but....

Having said that Ebola is bad but I'm not one to think a global pandemic etc. (Hopefully) But also think it could be used in a good way to help influence people to recognize that we need to have borders and have a non-suicidal approach to 'refugee,' 'migrant,' illegals, and even legal immigration laws.  Maybe even the thought of such an awful disease would inspire politicians and people to reconsider suicidal open-border and immigration policies? Probably not.

Now, they say only 2000 so not necessarily a huge alarm but due to the nature of the disease, the demand for open borders, the inability of the natives to want to stop it, the attacks on doctors trying to stop it, and the invasion of Europe it might be good to be alert.

And as Dr Micheal Ryan said when asked why..

QuoteHe said climate change, emerging diseases, exploitation of the rainforest, large and highly mobile populations, weak governments and conflict were making outbreaks more likely to occur and more likely to swell in size once they did.

But the first one doesn't exist according to the current asshole and circus in the WH. They even put a clamp on their own research scientists testifying to Congress from written statements. No doubt they want Jim Jordan to hold things up with questions that are completely irrelevant and intended to ridicule the ones giving the statements.

Yeah, it is very politically correct and is demanded in certain circles that everything is related to global warming climate disruption climate change, or whatever new name they might introduce. I guess, in totality, it is technically accurate as anything that happens on earth is, at least tangentially, related to the climate.  But basically a nice way to get funding and make headlines and avoid the real issues with regard to Ebola, lest we offend. Because the climate never has changed through out history. Ever. It must be my pickup truck and SVU! Climate has never changed on other planets or anywhere in earth's history because there were no pesky humans around. And humans, of course, are not a part of nature or the environment! Evolution is a scam. Evil humans always making these changes!

Let's just blame climate change and accept a "new normal" of terrorism, Ebola, disease outbreaks, etc. Far easier than addressing the problems of failed states, open borders, bad hygiene and backwards, customs, political volatility, and suicidal immigration, migrant, and refugee policies. And exploitation of certain countries or people that feeds the corruption and instability.

We don't.  ICE and the 'charities' didn't check them- just shuttle them to unidentified cities around the country. Re: truck bed. Asians have a big presence in Africa, especially Chinese. And African countries and NGOs buy used gear from everywhere.  It was a stock photo also so who knows when/where it was really done.

Not that ICE is apparently not even checking for any diseases with most of these "refugees." But Ebola "symptoms may appear anywhere from 2 to 21 days after contact with the virus, with an average of 8 to 10 days."  And when they cede to the Democrat sirens' call to come across illegally and surrender and claim, false, "amnesty," the illegals are not checked for anything- and the government, LEOs, or healthcare workers even know who, and what, is now in the country!   Surely this couldn't be the source of all the recent measles, mumps, chagas, "polio-like" disease, TB, lice, bedbugs, etc outbreaks?

Horrible.  As well, I've always said security should be on the inbound isles of the airport, not the outbound ones.

Those polio disease, I feel sure, are from the flu shot.  But, I can talk until I'm breathless & no one seems to care.  I know a woman that it happened to - the same day she got her shot, she could walk no more.  Her husband was working FT at the time, and came after work every single day for hours to spend time with his beautiful wife at the skilled nursing facility where I briefly filled in.  When I saw the administrator going around giving us all the flu shot, I was secretly glad my position ended first, because I didn't want to end up like her.  That poor woman did nothing to deserve being paralyzed and in rehab for God knows how long (months, at least).  And her poor Mr., getting no rest.  To make matters worse, medical error is the #1 cause of death in the country and as it turns out, because she was paralyzed she had to rely on nurses for her meds.  The nurses were late one day with her blood pressure meds and the patient's blood pressure was in the heart attack zone.  Shortly after that, state compliance officers came in person and watched us work, doing an inspection for 2 days.  Anyhow, the flu shot cost her her health, put her in a facility which is always a risk to health, and I don't even know if she fully recovered.  The diagnosis was Guillan-Barre, but the symptoms are the same as Acute Flaccid Myelitis and one gov't study draws a huge link between the two.

What angers me is that the government is not keeping track of AFM cases with regards to which children just recently had the flu shot.

And, it's one thing to be young & healthy and paralyzed.  But being paralyzed is an extremely dangerous thing for older people dependent on serious scheduled prescriptions, diabetics, hypoglycemics, asthmatics, people with seizure disorders, etc...  It is not guaranteed a nurse is going to be there the moment you need your rescue inhaler to live, or a glucose tablet to prevent coma/death.  That's why I get worked up about this topic. The flu shot puts vulnerable people into situations that are very perilous.

It's even more aggravating because Medicare reimburses better to facilities if all the staff gets the flu shot.  So, even office workers or hospital work-at-home transcriptionists can be required to get the flu shot.  Many nurses are up in arms about it.  If you opt out of the shot, HR treats you like a pariah, and dose not provide ventilated masks as an alternative, only regular sweaty masks.  One of the reasons I am low income is that I refuse to get the flu shot, so my healthcare job opportunities are very limited.  But, with hypoglycemia, asthma, and having had partial anaphylaxis twice, I don't want to put myself at any risk of AFM or Guillan-Barre.  I wouldn't be able to grab Benedryl, albuterol, glucose, or food to save my life, and patients sometimes have to wait a long time for their call light to be answered.  This is why I have loved working in wellness (massage, physical therapy) offices instead of hospitals, but there just isn't as much work available.
