Howard Stern

I haven't heard much of his program. I never lived in an area where they carried it, and now he is on satellite radio.

The parts I have heard are sometimes funny, other times just peurile and lame. I didn't bring my headphones with me and  I'm curious what he might have said about Dr. Laura though. Didn't she say she was quitting radio, then at the last minute, decided to go to satellite?

I wish he would've spent more time eviscerating her career rather than the endless commentary on the state of her pubic hair. He is at his best when he isn't doing the fratboy/locker room/terlet humor.

The Stern show of 1992-1995 is my favorite program of all-time,largely due to the genius of Billy West. But he left on 11/1/95, and 1996-97 was "Hollywood Howie" constantly talking up his motion picture. The show never recovered from Jackie Martling leaving on 3/2/01, IMO.

Agreed, after the jokeman left it floundered...

MV/Liberace!

i prefer opie and anthony, although i do respect stern as the pioneer of his genre of radio.  he opened a lot of doors.

MV/Liberace!

oh, and stern's movie is in my top-ten all time favs.

haven't listened to stern since he left terrestrial radio. i have had XM in my new car for 11 months now and haven't  heard any stern yet?!

give opie and anthony a shot for a couple of days.  they really put a lot of effort into delivering a good show.  i don't listen to stern, but from what his listeners frequently have told me, he's phoning it in these days and collecting his checks.  oh, and he's suing the company as well.  that must bode REALLY WELL for the mood in that studio these days.

The least talented, unfunny, self-absorbed, sycophantic token in radio history= Robin Quivers. Stern gave her a lifetime sinecure because her presence allowed him to do sexist/racial humor...well,at least when he did humor on his show many moons ago.

In Boston(from 3/93-3/96) it ran from 7pm-12am on replay, huge ratings. I actually liked the show better at night. The Golden Age of Stern...

I agree with Eddie Coyle on a lot. The old member of the cast Billy West was a comedic genius. His impressions of Jackie when Jackie was sitting there was absolutely hilarious. Also, Robin is absolutely useless. Eddie if you read this did you see when Todd Phillips, director of The Hangover I & II, called her out and told her she had to tone it down because she was destroying the show and was out of control?

Stern's show has been better since he cut back to 3 days a week, but it still sucks without a comedian and without the massive ratings of free radio to draw in great guests. It still sucks that Hank the Angry Drunken Dwarf is gone too.

I read about it on Stern Fan Network. About fuckin' time! It's sad that it took Phillips to do it and not somebody like Jackie or Stuttering John...oh yeah, the people on his staff who had guts have been off the Stern show for years.

Billy and Jackie were comedic geniuses. Robin's "news" would last 2 hours as they riffed. Even Fred contributed(by playing Jackie's laugh)...but Billy and his "Marge Schott" character could not be done on radio today. Including satellite!

She's very smart, though. I saw her on "Jeopardy", and she did quite well (hee). I'm a bit clueless on the comings and goings in Stern World these days. Did they ever fully explain what happened to Kenneth Keith?

If Kenneth Keith was black, Al Sharpton would have made him a household name. But a suspicious death of a white goober in police custody, the Rev don't notice that.

I haven't heard a full Stern show since Dec 2005. So I rely on SFN for info...the glory days of the REAL wack pack are long gone.

Did Sharpton ever get around to apologizing to the Duke lacrosse players? Something tells me that neither he nor Nancy (Dis)Grace ever took one bite of humble pie after they got busted for spreading false accusations. You'll never see either one of them on an apology tour like the one that Imus took after he made his stupid comments about the Rutgers women. It was sad to see Imus grovel on Sharpton's show.

Anybody who grovels before Sharpton deserves nothing but misery. How disgusting. Death before dishonor.

Nancy Grace is a pig faced demon. She really is a revolting harridan without an once of dignity. A vulture. My girl watches her show nightly and it befuddles me "how can you possibly endure this overwrought witch?"

Nancy Grace has carved a niche out for herself of being the hysterical, angry victim advocate.  She pretends to have anger management problems, looking down while a split screen guest answers questions, pretending to control rage.  Her eye-rolling confrontational tactics are so exaggerated that I toggle between irritation and amusement.  OK, mostly irritation--she's an embarrassment to women and her recent insistence that any mother worth her salt would lie on the stand for her child--Please God, let's see some Christian Fundamentalist outrage over that one and help us cleanse the air of this helmet-haired verbal gossip rager.

They said he died from side effects of cystic fibrosis because the conditions in jail were so horrible and he caught a lung infection or pneumonia. I didn't listen to the show during this time though so don't know for sure.

texaskdog

He was on our radio in Saint Paul for 2 years around 98 & 99.  He lost it for me in that his show was built around wishing he was single, then once he finally was, he gets engaged right away.

Thanks for the info, Rangers. I read bits and pieces of the story here and there, but I wasn't clear on what really happened. Some articles made it sound like his death was caused by negligence, and some articles made it sound like his attempted abduction of the girl was a big misunderstanding. Really, I thought that one of the other younger guests would get busted for something like that.

I loved his Impression of Marge Schoot. Those where the good old days of Stern. Now I feel the show has gone soft. I did not see the need to use the F word so much.

Great Movie! I'm a former Boston resident and wow does this movie mean a lot to Mass. Mitchum is great in it, as with just about everything he did.

Stern isn't funny anymore, he's funny enough to chuckle, but his "Schtick" is SOOOOOOOO old, I'm tired of listening to him. Combine this with his die hard leftist leanings and I want to puke. He's the most successful pornographer in the world sans Hefner and Flynt.

Lifelong Southie resident here. I obviously have an affinity for the film as well. For a movie that was filmed in the Fall of '72, it's remarkable how many areas featured  haven't changed much at all. Government Center,The North Quincy "T" Station, Carson Beach, Memorial Drive...

Stern, at his peak, was incredible ringmaster. Billy West,Jackie Martling were the creative forces, and having guests like Richard Simmons,Mark Harris,Elephant Boy,Beetlejuice,Hank the Dwarf,Crackhead Bob etc...that's what made the show go. But those days are long gone, he's a tired decamillionaire who doesn't care anymore.

The new found leftist views are to please his Hamptons pals...

I was never a stern fan. And kick me if I am wrong but wasn't stern a pretty big Pataki and Guiliani supporter? I think like most level headed people he got off the Bush2 bus. But I never thought stern was a liberal. Jon Stewart is a liberal.

Stern's politics were contadictory more often than not. He supported Pataki,Guiliani,Christy Todd Whitman,Al D'Amato...he was definitely right-leaning, but certainly not conservative. Tellingly, in local politics he tended to back Republicans, but nationally, he tended to support Democrats.

The only time I spent with stern was I saw his movie right after it came out. I thought it was a pretty good movie. Thought Paul Giamatti did a great job. Was impressed with sterns "so public" proclamation for his love of his wife. Only to learn maybe a year later he was divorcing her for another. I thought WTF.
