I just bought the Texas Chainsaw Massacre blu-ray at Wal-mart in honor of Tobe.  It is not my favorite of Tobe's films because I'm not generally a slasher horror movie fan but I got some shits and giggles when I last watched it on the big screen which was some time ago in the 90's when it was on the midnight movie circuit.
I first saw it during an on campus showing back in the '70s.  Pretty terrifying for those days, right up there with when I first saw "Night of the Living Dead" in the '60s at a Saturday kid's matinee, of all things.  I remember my sister hiding her eyes during most of that showing, while she kept asking what was going on.  ;D

"Alien" was pretty much a house of horrors in space.  You never forget the chest bursting scene.

If for no other reason than his contributions to film preservation,  I hope he rests in peace. I didn't particularly admire the man but he was classier than Larry Flynt.  For better or worse, he contributed greatly to the pop culture of the last 70 years.  God bless him for giving us naked pictures of Pamela Anderson, Marilyn Monroe and many others.
That's a big 10-4 buddy.

I wonder what he though of Playboys decision to remove all pics of naked women from its pages?  Then its decision to reintroduce nekkid women to the pages of Playboy?
Talk about the pussification of todays culture.

Yeah, it was weird in that I spent that summer with my mom and dad and I being the only guests in the motel suites that weren't with the movie crew. Cornel Wilde, his wife, and son were in the room next to us. For the first week we would be mistakingly roused at 6am with everybody else. We got to know everybody well and the young Wilde kid would stay with us some days when he didn't want to run around on the film sets. Mr. and Mrs. Wilde seemed like genuinely nice people and most of the cast would hang out swimming in the evenings.

What was strange is that the next summer we went back to the same motel to spend the summer and checked into the same suite. When we got into the room I turned on the tv just as the premiere of The Gargoyles was being broadcast for the first time!

Glad to hear that about Wilde and thanks for responding. You hear so many bad stories about celebrities. It is nice to hear some good stories.

Monty Hall has made his final deal. He died at age 96 from heart failure.  RIP, Monty.

I walked out of the Ambassador's Club at LAX behind Hall back in the mid 80s, we both went the length of courcouse to our gates.  He was a perfect gentleman to the dozen or so people who stopped to shake his hand, ask for an autograph, or get a photo.  He struck me as a genuinely nice man.

Thanks for your contribution to society before the internet.

The men who remember those savage tiems will nao stand at attention...
and give a final salute befitting Hughs legacy.

During the salute and moment of silence, anyone is welcome to take a knee, if they wish.

(RIP) Rest In Piece, Hugh

I am very, very sad to report the death of Tom Petty at age 66.  CBS has confirmed reports that he has died after being taken off of life support.  Here's a song with the support of the Heartbreakers with Ringo on drums and Carl Wilson on harmonies.   Rest in Peace, Tom.

Great song off a great album that Jeff Lynne produced.  Hung Up and Overdue just suits my mood better.

I think Tom just saw the writing on the wall for white people and didn't want to live like a refugee in his own country.  ;)

Title is the same..This footage is shown at the end.
Yep. Agree, I would imagine that Mike Chapman and Geoff Lynn will be feeling crap.

Tom Petty.  Oh, this really, REALLY sucks.  My rotation is chock full of Tom P. And the Heartbreakers, and will always be one of my favoritds.  RIP.

Ugh!  I just saw him in Berkeley a month ago, geeze.

The Live Anthology CD is a good one.  For each song, he went through every live recording he had and picked out the best one

Yeah, I have the big box set of that. I missed out and really wish I had seen him live.  He is one of the few recording artists that I still bought records for.

CBS retracted the story. He was taken off life support but is still clinging to life. No brain activity though according to reports.

Same here.  He' been a favorite since bursting on the scene with Breakdown.

And he enjoyed being around here.  Two different times he played something like 10 shows over a several week period at the Fillmore - here's this big star basically as the house band in a smaller club.  On his tour stops here he would typically bring Stevie Nicks out for several songs.  Not sure if that was because she lives here part time and was around, or if they did that in other cities as well.

Erm.. You sure? The news came out today. The magazine will have gone to press at least three days ago, maybe longer. So if the news has been lifted, its been lifted from Rolling Stone. But that makes no sense if he's been admitted today, do they have a crystal ball?
