Little late this year in memorializing Elvis.  My childhood rock idol was this man and I've never gotten over his death.  My Mom and Grandmother also thought he was the best.  RIP.

I'm of two minds about E. Obviously, he was a god in his late teens/early 20s who revolutionized popular music but the quality of his music went south pretty quickly after that and then the quality of his life followed, culminating in one of the most public What happened to you, man?! last chapters in a man's life. So tragic...but I understand what you loved about him.

It's about time someone posted some Rush.

Oh yeah! I love them long time. I saw them back in 86. We had shitty nosebleeds but I didn't mind so much when I realized it afforded me an overhead view of Peart playing. Amazing!  I wish I had the opportunity to see them again since but so many bands, so little time. 8)

Would be good to see them again, but it seems like they only ever really tour America.

No question that I think his 50's stuff is generally far superior to his later stuff though I've always loved Burning Love, An American Trilogy, Moody Blue and Way Down.  My wife's favorite Elvis song is Suspicious Minds.  I didn't really care for the cheesy jump-suit image.

My favorite 70's Elvis is this.  No other song he did in the 70's rocks more than this.

Ever wonder what Elvis might have sounded with ELO?  This gives you an idea!

"The protagonist in "Deacon Blues" is a triple-L loser_an L-L-L Loser. It's not so much about a guy who achieves his dream but about a broken dream of a broken man living a broken life. "Deacon Blues" was special for me. It's the only time I remember mixing a record all day and, when the mix was done, feeling like I wanted to hear it over and over again. It was the comprehensive sound of the thing: the song itself, its character, the way the instruments sounded and the way Tom Scott's tight horn arrangement fit in."

Six degrees of separation...
While reading about the life of Walter Becker>>I find that Becker's musical partner, Donald Fagan, is married to Libby Titus>>Fagan was arrested not long ago, after allegedly assaulting Ms. Titus>>who was once in a relationship with Levon Helm from The Band>>I remember always being uncertain whether Helm is singing about "Annie" or "Fanny">>I discover this has, in fact, been a major controversy, with some theorizing it could be two different women, when both "Anna Lee" and "Miss Fanny" appear later in the song>>Why that's Duane Allman playing slide guitar on Aretha's version!!
