A great joke, but, I don't need such things.   8)

I know... But I would send the link to Chruch just to help his "healing" process along.  I'm sure that being "chruched" leaves a scar...

We also may have to change "men in black" to "broadcasters in black."

The nerve, I tell ya.

Can somebody PLEASE photoshop Church out and photoshop Redacted in?  (Could change some of the text as well, if it is not too much trouble...)

Do Monday and Tuesday in L.A., spend Wednesday in flight, doing show prep on the plane...
Try as they might, I have known people who just cannot sleep on a plane.

Your gif made me laugh out loud. I took it in the spirit it was meant.

I'm glad that it was received in spirit that it was posted in...

I only mildly recall seeing the Chruch-Bell pic.  I did, however, find a Church and (Noory?) pic. (I know it sounds stupid-but I cannot tell if it is a Gnoory, or not- I'm going to go with a 80% chance...)

Nor was wotr1's gif I don't think. We just got caught up in the excitement and the flip thing that Roswells started.
I really should know to explain my poor sense of humour.  The "backflip fail" gif was supposed to be a humourous reference to Roswells not managing to post a gif of a backflip.  I have a screwed and warped sense of humour and hope that people do not take that as being directed to redacted...

***Edit- nor was it meant to be insulting to Roswells- it was supposed to be light -hearted and semi-amusing...

So will we have to create a compendium of awesomeness for (Redacted), or a thread for rumors leading up to the big show while discussing what will be discussed...
There will have to be a thread for "other MITD hosts."  Knowing that we are only "vaguely lovable", I suppose that we should probably at least dull our claws with a file prior to posting?  J/K,I'm sure it will be great.  The thread may read like the Knapp thread (almost all praise...)

Well... I suppose that Jas can just feel like a co-host when he calls in nightly...

Assuming there is no more quotas, social promotion, grade adjustment/inflation, etc in that training, the discriminatory practices, and/or cheating, in the initial process might not effect safety in the ATC system...
I don't think that we really disagree.  There is enough damning information in that report that it could have done without the "scare tactic" of telling people that planes would soon fall out of the sky (or even that the air will be less safe...)

I do know that if I were caught providing answers for a test administered by a federal department that I would quickly loose my job.  There would be no questions asked.  Also, I would suspect that if somebody could prove that I cheated to get the job that it would quickly disappear.  The real question is why they are just forging ahead.

Another thing that was kind of funny in the article was when it said that 3000 people who were considered "well qualified" no longer had a leg up on the competition.  It also said that they were going to need 1000 air traffic controllers to replace those who were retiring.

The numbers make me question why the schools continued to pump out new "qualified" graduates when the limited market is already flooded with 3X the number of candidates required. (I think we can all assume that schools are happy to rake in $$$ to train people for occupations that are already saturated- can't really blame them for wanting to make a profit.)

Finally, I'm a little torn.  On one hand, I believe that all jobs should go to the best qualified.  On the other, we already know that is not always the case (hiring friends, people who you are "comfortable" with, discrimination going BOTH ways...)  On the other... It's a really long story- I don't think that we should hire a lazy drop-out... But if two candidates are pretty evenly matched, I think history has usually been that the white male has the upper hand (yes, I'm a white male.)  What do we do now? toss a coin or try to make up for the past?  Well, there is that powder keg.

To clarify- my uncle is having issues right now because his major customer has hired almost all east Indians to run the plant.  He has all but been told that there are no contracts available for him as he lacks pigment and a certain religion.  I don't want to see where it is a major disadvantage to be white any more than I think it should be a disadvantage to not be white...

Thanks.  I just registered a test account at inbox.com.  They promise the account remains active until it is unused for 90 days, didn't require any other email address and did not even give the option for a phone number.

There are a number of services that I found that offer to encrypt the emails and they seem interesting for my personal life at some point... There was even one service that moves their email servers between countries regularly to make it harder for people to start legal proceedings to get the information- but that seems like overkill for a minor coup.

I may try a test account at each of those places as well.  I only want to make sure that the accounts run for the next week before things go into gear and if inbox.com is a problem, i would like options to fall back on.

Thanks.

I understand, I think it was a set up but who knows, at the time I thought it was real. That's the beauty of live Radio, you never know for sure. It's also why I will be doing a lot of open lines if we have a big enough listener pool. I have no idea how many people will show up, what a hoot!

That's the one thing about what we are about to do, I have NO clue how it will go but the Studio is really awesome and it's gonna be fun. Maybe I will invite Redacted to co-host some night, she has a very clear voice, bet you guy's would get a kick out of that.

Art
It really seems like you may be enjoying this round more than the others.  The "first round" was great- but I would bet it was beyond stressful getting affiliates and building it up not knowing what was coming next.  XM seemed like you were having fun, but still not "master of your domain."

I may be off (as I know there is still stress doing something completely new), but it certainly seems like you are just letting go and doing it strictly for the enjoyment (profits, hopefully to follow...)

I'm looking forward to "radio" hosted by somebody who is there because he wants to be rather than because his corporate masters give him a bonus at the end of the year.

***Edit- in light of the above post, I would just like to state for the record that I am happy the official kick off date is coming and that the studio is complete.

Thanks for the responses... Perhaps I will surf around and see what I can find if Gmail is going to be a pain.  No, there is nothing "bad" or illegal about this.  I do, however, need a few addresses to provide to a group (some of whom need to remain anonymous for the sake of their jobs, and some who will likely sign the email with their name...)

While I don't think that anybody can defend the hiring policy, I believe it is disingenuous to link it to safety.  Regardless of where the candidate came from (the BQ method, or the college training method) they still have to be trained by the FAA to certain standards.  The linked to fox report states that those who completed the course are more likely to complete the FAA training and do so 5 weeks earlier than those hired off the street- but that does not necessarily translate to safety.  Discrimination in any form is a crock of shit- be it against women, men, white, black, gay or straight.  It should be that the best candidate is the one hired.

Anyhow, I pulled out the couple of relevant paragraphs that make me question if this is about safety or if it is strictly about discrimination.  (Again, I'm not defending the FAA's actions- only questioning the conclusion as presented.)

Applicants who pass the BQ and subsequent FAA hiring review are sent to the agency’s training academy in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Course work there lasts 13 weeks but it takes another two to three years, during which trainees apprentice at air traffic control centers across the country, for an applicant to achieve Certified Professional Controller status or CPC.  It can cost as much as $420,000, on average, to fully train an air traffic controller and the FAA tries to select candidates based on the likelihood they will successfully complete their training.   But, CTI School advocates say the old program saved the FAA time and money.

Data from the FAA indicates CTI graduates complete their FAA academy course work five weeks sooner than off the street hires.  And, CTI advocates say CTI graduates are more likely to achieve certified professional controller (CPC) status which saves the FAA money since the CTI graduates complete the program at greater rate than applicants hired off the street.

I need to register just under a dozen email addresses without attaching any names or identity to the accounts and I need them to be active only for a couple of months.  They must be capable of sending and receiving emails.  Does anybody have a suggestion?  I tried hotmail- but they now want to verify the account by texting a code (and froze the test account).  That is not what I am after.

I know it is a stupid question, but I cannot afford to have an account frozen when they discover that the person who registered them is not "John Doe".

Anyhow, thanks.

I'm a little late to the celebration... But it's good to hear that things are ready.  The test show would be the perfect time for people who fear being nervous to call.  The audience will be smaller and it should have a good celebratory feel.

Wouldn't it be something if Dave called in to offer "best wishes" for success (or, failing that, at least bless the show with his own rendition of dancing queen...)

Yup, I'm back.  After reading Plato's "the republic" for some of this afternoon, I was struck by a paragraph.  No, it is not just about Falkie- but rather applies to a few people here.  Just interesting that it was written some 2500 years ago and can be quoted on this thread and, (I feel) has some relevance if you do not confine it to a strictly literal interpretation.

You mean, I said, that they will live the same sort of life as those sick people who, through lack of self control, cannot give up their bad diet?

They live too pleasant a life!  Their treatment achieves nothing except that their complaints become worse and more varied; they are always hoping when someone advises a new medicine that this will cure them.

Further, I said, is this not charming of them, that they consider as their worst enemy the man who tells them the truth, namely that until they give up drunkenness, overeating, lechery and idleness, that no medicine, cautery or surgery, no charms amulets or anything of the kind will do them any good.

Q-Tip Automat
Q-T;

You must not be so hard on yourself.  The deck is stacked against us by the interests of big-cotton.  They have the clout in congress to block laws that would hurt their business model.  When Johnson and Johnson bought the rights to the brand name, they guaranteed that this dangerous product would be found in every drug store, box store and shopping mall in America.  They have the influence with major retailers to push their agenda.

Gone are the days when a little cotton on the end of a stick was sold to the public.  They have increased the cotton on each Q-Tip annually (and generally undetected.)  What chance does the public have against such nefarious behavior?  I have read experts who now declare that it takes less than 10 Q-Tips to hook the average consumer.

The costs to society are mounting.  Absentee fathers, petty theft, disability claims... It is getting to be too much.  Addiction counselling is the only way to get this monkey off your back.  I know that George has had on "experts" before selling a quick cure- but they are just snake oil salesmen and dangerous quacks.

Please attend a detox before it is too late.

I think the last few responses have finally convinced me to leave for awhile.  It was interesting with the whole Jorch interview for awhile- but that is over.  What is left are a few posters acting as though they are in grade one again.

They say it takes awhile to develop habits and I have checked this thread almost daily for a couple of weeks.  If I can abstain for a couple of weeks, perhaps I can be cured.  Yeah, I will probably "slip" a few times like any addict, but I will forgive myself and continue trying.

May you all continue posting what the others eat / drink / do (McDonalds / burger king / wine / shitting your pants / screwing or not screwing your women...) in good health...  Once dry of ammunition, you can always make up for a few weeks and continue spilling your guts to one another for round two.

Is there a more dysfunctional thread on the internet?

I'm seriously done now... I cannot continue as this whole thing is just too bizarre when you start looking at it.  Would you believe that there is a commercial in India for this exact product (again, I'm not joking...)  I particularly like the end with the senior citizen lady logging on to buy some...

I realize that I am derailing an Art Bell thread- but it was only meant as a short, one liner joke in response to a post- and now I am at three of four...

People wonder why I use a VPN?  I don't see why the NSA needs to know that I am searching the internet to find the active ingredient in vaginal tightening cream...

Anyhow, it turns out that it is a glycerin based gel with the active ingredient being a potassium alum compound, also known as “Dridhranga,” “Sphatik,”' or “Argilla Vitriolutum”.  Apparently, they claim that this ingredient causes skin cells to swell.  Needless to say, the FDA has not looked into these claims.  You can read more at

I may tune in again tomorrow- it sounds like an interesting guest.  Tonight I left the radio on and twice walked in on a personal reading from a palmist who warned the callers not to trust mainstream interpretations and to only use a qualified palmist.  The one call was disappearing fingerprints (and I already forget what the second one was.)

Why you would open the lines up for one caller at a time to get readings is beyond me.  I left the radio on the first time thinking that maybe it was just one caller.  When I walked into the kitchen awhile later and found another caller explaining their palm or fingers or hand print I had to turn it off.

Another waste of time...  There is always tomorrow.

Coast has 2 million weekly listeners down from about 12, and the numbers are dwindling. If I were RCH I'd jump ships as fast as I could.
But why would RCH jump from 2 million gullible listeners who may attend his seminar or buy is crap to jump to MITD with what? Say 50 000 more intelligent, skeptical listeners?

Add to that the fact that even Art is not 100% sure that he can make a go of it and you have to figure the math says that if it is one or the other that you would have to chose the one where you are going to make some $$$ from the cat ladies who still tune into coast and might buy what you are selling.

The best case scenario is that Coast just admits that there is room for both and does not try to put conditions on guests appearing on Coast (there is no non-compete contract for guests- but I can see them threatening if they can...)

There is no "big surprise."  Drone is doing a good job of creating interest in a dying thread.  Falkie can come here and blow up, Garry can pretend to defend Falkie, Drone can make pointless accusations (did Senda drive without a licence?  Is he the Zodiac killer?)

This thread will get another 100 pages on this kick, George will get another 20 youtube subscribers, the detractors will be driven insane, the trolls will be well fed and then it will die down until another sock account comes along.

Anyhow, try to keep the pages of new posts down to under 7 a day, would you guys?  Anything more and I just skip to the last page and ignore all of the crap in the middle.

I feel dirty.
But I just can't shake this Hoagland thing. I'm going to have to hire a therapist or something until the show happens. If you'd have suggested to me in 1996 that I'd ever be excited about a Hoagland interview I'd have gone unhinged and done terrible things that would have resulted in my being very much under arrest. But now, I'm excited. Shamefully excited against my better judgment.

I had missed your posts- it's good to see you back.

I know where you are coming from with Hoagland.  I used to make fun of him and dread his Coast appearances with Dave.  What a waste of time.  I also found myself wondering why Art would bring him on when he was doing Dark Matter.

While I cannot say that I buy any of what he was selling, the interview itself was one of the best (of that short run.)  It demonstrated clearly the difference between a show hosted by Art and one hosted by Dave.  Same guest, completely different shows.

I question if he will be on MITD.  I can see Coast telling him that while they only cut him off for a few months last time he made the appearance that they will permanently delete him from the guest list if he dares to join Art again.  Knowing that even Art has said that this show is a gamble, I don't know if he would be willing to financially risk loosing the audience that Coast has...

Anyhow, welcome back.  I'm sure there are a number of people who are questioning their sanity and their judgement after having enjoyed that interview.
