I don't think that he needed the preamble about Canada being a good country. A decade ago, I may have thought it true- now he could have left it out and just told the truth.

You are welcome for the video below.

I couldn't agree more. I'm sure that Putin will just go back to Russia with his tail between his legs if we can just apply a little more pressure. That seems like the most likely outcome. After all, nobody made him roll his tanks into the Ukraine. So now we should expect Russia to admit that they are weak and go back home.

I'm sure they stockpiled thousands of nuclear warheads to not be a military superpower and admit that they are incapable of defending a few thousand square kilometers.

*Do you post like this just to show your friends how "left" supposed war mongering conservatives are? Certainly you don't honestly think that we are heading in a good direction where the west wants to corner Russia, control the middle east, and saber rattle with China simultaneously? Bloody hell, MD seems to be to be more of a peacenik hippy compared to the "guy from Portland ™."  ;)

Quote from: K_Dubb on October 05, 2022, 11:22:45 AMIt's more like people typically sue for peace when their side is losing,  Since Ukraine backed by the entire civilized West is kicking their ass right now, it encourages us to infer his sympathies.

Yup. And the Ukraine just offered that the USA be allowed to chose the targets of long range weapons if they supply them. At this point, why would Russia not just consider that the USA and other countries are no longer fighting a proxy war, but a "hot" war if we are supplying unlimited arms, the expertise to operate them and now chosing the targets as well? Why not consider us targets if they already have to fight the (as you put it) "entire civilized west?"

Once again, it looks like a conservative is more "anit-war" than most of the so-called left. I'm getting really sick of out lefting the left.

*I really hope we back him into a corner so that I can finally experience full out nuclear war. It is a great time to be alive when we might finally annihilate ourselves over a piece of shit land demanding NATO membership and full support. Totally worth it.

With winter coming, and two pipelines that have now been blown to hell and probably out of commission for eternity, I wonder who Germany will have to turn to for gas? I wonder what demands that gas will come with? Somehow, I doubt that it will just be supplied at the market price with no strings attached.

I recall hundreds of military generals and privates all signing letters stating that Trump was dangerous, unstable and would lead the world into WWIII. And then he started no wars and pulled out of some that he inherited during his time in office.

Then two years ago, Biden was elected and I recall hearing people saying that "the adults are back in power." And now we are looking at the very real possibility of small nuclear arms being deployed and a war spreading out of control.

May not love Trump- but I will say that the world did not seem 1/10 as dangerous with him in the whitehouse as a career politician who has taken more money from the arms manufacturers over the last 5 decades than anybody could possibly count. But I suppose that the peons have always made good cannon fodder.

No coverage on the CBC... No coverage on global. Permier Peckford (the last living signatory to the Canadian charter of rights and freedoms) is dragging the government through the courts. But all of the media is now given hundreds of millions annually by the federal government (gee, what could go wrong?) So they have decided to give a court case affecting every Canadian absolutely no coverage.

Here is the interview on Rumble. And supposing that people would actually prefer youtube, I'll post it as well. It's interesting- but it is a couple of hours (you can always skip the first 20 minutes where he talks about the teacher with tits.)

Quote from: albrecht on September 20, 2022, 02:08:24 PMJust got a book, haven't read it yet, about that ghost ship and crazy stuff. Martime  law and finance is amazing. Bzyantine and not 'sexy' so most don't pay attention, even though most everything we buy and need moves, at some point, by ship. Sometimes people can't even figure out who owns the ship and there are so many levels of ownership, leasing, leasing back, insuring, reinsuring, and types of legal relationships related to the goods, and sailors.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58395055-dead-in-the-water

I was surprised to see when the ever forward ran aground that there is such a thing as declaring a general average that suddenly makes the cargo owners partially responsible for the costs incurred because the captain of a ship is drunk or stupid...

"Common average is a principle of maritime law that requires shipowners and shippers to share equitably in the costs involved in rescuing a ship following a major accident. When General Average is claimed, owners of goods are required to contribute to a General Average fund before their cargo can be delivered."

Basically, if the ship is valued at 50 million and the cargo at 50 million, then the ship owner and the cargo owner would each contribute 50% of all costs to rescue the ship (simplified.) It just blows my mind that I could import a container of cargo and be responsible for a share of tug boats, dredging equipment, and divers.

I don't know if anybody has caught the teacher that Dore was referring to at the start of the last video... Here is a picture of the shop teacher in a Toronto school. Seems like anything goes now (in Canada.)

It seems like you can take your fetishes into the classroom now. I'm wondering if this means that a woman can now wear a rubber cock that drags on the ground and be protected by the school board as well?  What about diapers if you have a fecal fetish, or a gimp mask. Where is the line now?

I suppose that this is the correct place to discuss the imminent change of ethereum form POW to POS?

I never liked Ether. The utility is nice, the fact that it has been widely adopted for defi and smart contracts has been interesting. However, when you have a group who gets to make changes on a whim to suit them (and turn it into POS that benefits only those who are already rich or institutions) it goes against the founding values of crypto. When they decided to start bending the knee to the US government I knew it was over.

Yes- I mined it right up to today. The profit was pretty good- and I have exchanged quite a lot of it for other miners and other coins and will still hold some ether "just because."

Time to change the mining rigs to raven for now?*

*I'm guessing this may not be the forum to ask who else is going to hold ether and who is going to divest or what coins people are changing over to? At first glance, it would seem that raven should pay out roughly the same as ether has- and it looks like an interesting project...  ;)

Quote from: albrecht on September 12, 2022, 05:59:22 PMI guess it depends on who is doing the extra-judicial killings. And whether one trusts the judiciary. And certainly the mainstream is pushing death, by any means possible from pre-birth, to cop, to self-induced, to end-of-life 'care.'

Maybe true. Who do you trust at the trigger of extrajudicial killings in this political climate? Your local PD, the FBI, your president? Maybe in 1950 there would have been somebody who I would trust. Not today- I have seen too much. Maybe it was always as it is today, and the internet just shone a light into the dark corners?

Either way, there is not an institution who I would trust with that power today. And the RCMP is in the top 5 on the "least trusted" list.

What I found interesting was the take by our present PM (justine) vs. previous PM's and governor general's. All of the later focused on who they perceived her to be as a person or a leader (kind, funny, courageous) and the loss to the world. (Agree with them or not.)

However, our sniveling little skidmark of a PM took the opportunity to talk about how he will miss her, how he was feeling, and their talks. In the end, he even managed to twist her death into being about him.

*I would like to believe that "your people" at least had the good taste to not cry over how her death will affect them personally?

I think that Illinois had, perhaps, found the best solution. Using "the purge" as a template, they have managed to almost guarantee that the abortion debate will die. Hard to worry about such things while you are living in the dystopia that Chicago will become.

I can now kidnap you, get caught, then move into your basement and they can only fine me. Then I can set the house on fire and "accidentally" kill you while I'm high and I will still be out by dinner to stalk your widow.

Seems like the politicians are declaring open season. (Also, I really think that I'm beginning to feel more at home with my avatar.)

Quote from: albrecht on September 07, 2022, 02:19:04 PMI seem to recall two amazing incidents. One was some guy who beheaded a person on a Canadian bus.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-38945061

And then weirdness:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/man-with-bloody-chainsaw-let-into-u-s-1.564430

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4072746.stm

Still wondering though about these spree knife attacks. Knives are a pretty personal weapon and, usually, used for defense (defence for you in the Great White North or UK) or for political purpose killings (Muzzies, Indians, Sikhs, etc.) Or for assasinations (especially in certain Italian and Indian-Dot cultures.) But weird to have mass knife attacks over a fairly large area. And some, apparently, at random knock on the door.

And the one guy died from what they claim was a wound likely made by his brother (at least last that I heard.) And then the other guy was "captured" today and then later was reported to have died from a self-inflicted wound.

I've never been one for these kinds of conspiracy theories (and I don't see what the point of this one would be.) But it was my mother of all people who thought it sounded weird. Though admittedly, I think she was leaning more towards the police "helping" him along in his death than anything more sinister...
