What was that talk between Noory and Tommy tonight all about?
Seemed like Tommy was trying to claim he would go to a grocery store and pick out somebody at random in the checkout line and pay their grocery bill.
Tommy trying to prove he does more good deeds than Noory or what?

Sounds like serial killer code-speak to me.

Telling lies on the air about his own generosity seems to be working great for his idol, Simple George, so Tomboy thought he'd give it a whirl.

Jennifer (hiding her head under the table, trying to stop laughing)

Randy:  'Yo yo dawg... c'mon man, how do yuh think you did...it just isn't your thing man...'

Steven:  'It's not just the fukin' radio show - you can't sing either.'

You got here before I did, Paper*Boy!

I envisioned Simon still at the table:

Simon: Self-indulgent poppycock!  Karaoke!  Pack your bags, because I don't expect you'll be here next week.  Sounds like a hippopotamus stuck in the mud.  Sounds like a hippopotamus doing kara--

Ryan Seacrest: Uh, Paula?

Paula: Nice outfit.  Well, it's an outifit.

Simon: (whispered to Paula) But what is that thing on his head?

Kara DiGuardio: Well, sweetie, you did try to make it your own.

Although, I must step up to the plate and support  my close male buddies (including my wonderful brother and handsome fiance) - they are all pretty much up front with each other and tell it like it is, which I so admire. I think guys don't give themselves the credit they deserve...again, for the most part.

[bolding mine]

How can they when women (not all of us) have spent the last 40 years tearing them down and telling them they're essentially useless, unnecessary beings?  Whatever value the so-called women's movement has had in providing equal opportunity, equal salaries, etc., it has had its downside when it comes to how young women are raised to view men, IMNSHO.  I watched the young women I taught slowly begin to express more and more negative views of men, of marriage, of partnership, of compromise, of obligation.  How sad they'll likely never come to understand the rewards that come from truly admiring and respecting a partner.

Simple George pegged the narcissism meter tonight with his rendition of Elvis' "Can't Help Falling In Love". Ignore the folks above - it was, in fact, 'that bad'. SG had the effrontery to claim that people had told him they thought his recording actually was Elvis singing. He also told one of his patented lies about how people he knows 'in the industry' are begging (his word) him to put together ten songs that they can record and release as a CD.

Oh, God, yes, it was bad.  That bad.  A drunk uncle at a wedding bad.  Off key half the time.  Odd articulation and phrasing.  Cringeworthy bad.

Oh Valdez.  You make me laugh. Smells Like Teen Spirit and Ave Maria??

Two questions
1) who is telling George he is a good singer? I'd say Little Dicker

2) Did he sing just to see how quick this board would 'hate' it?

No, inside soucres in the industry disclose he is going for the gold, a la Tony Bennett.  He hit the charts this last year at the age of 81.  The problem of the sources of this story however are they were confirmed at a piano bar in Hollywood. The source was slurring his or her speech.  It was not clear ultimately whether he/she said he was going for the gold or cold, as in another cold round of beverages.  The source did say, however, that his next endeavor was that he would sing "Hounddog" and dedicate it  personally to all of his past girlfriends.  YouTube has it complete with dance steps.  It will be released as a selection on Dance Central on your Wei and capitoned "Hounddogging with Simply George."

This sheds new light on the incident in Mexico.

Maybe he was really being kidnapped, until one of them recognized him as the guy singing at the wedding.. the confusion, the burst of chatter over the radio, the guy showing up making sure he got away..

One of thuh inderstry insiders hoping George will do it

Should he have sang? probably not. Was it ego driven? Absolutely. Was it all that bad? nah. He obviously does not sing professionally. it was a decent karaoke version of the song. I know Im the odd one out here, but I cant hate every little thing the man does, good or bad, just because hes noory. it seems to be a requirement here. i mean come on, tommy is being hated on here because he said he pays people's grocery bills. If anyone else said they did that, we'd pat them on the back, but because its the noory clan, we have to criticize? I feel weird defending them, since ive never done it before, but maybe you can cut them some slack this time.

No, I think you're missing it. I've heard worse at Karaoke Night most anywhere, too. But Noory isn't some goombah belting out 'My Way' at the local watering hole on Friday night. He's the full-time host of one of the biggest talk shows in the country. That kind of ego-driven bullshit is embarrassing for both him and us. There isn't a bigger self-important blowhard in talk radio than Rush Limbaugh, but even he has more self respect than to do something like this.

Far as Tommy goes, the difference between him and someone else who claimed that he paid random people's grocery bills is that we might be able to believe the other guy. Lying is an ugly, pernicious habit and I wasn't joking when I suggested that Tom saw that it seemed to work for Noory and decided to do the same. The whole conversation between Tom and Noory sounded scripted and phony to me, but then it always does. I'll give both of those lying mopes some slack  when they demonstrate that they deserve it.

Speaking of scripted and phony, does anyone else think that the caller who described a guy who he once had a relationship with stalking him everywhere he went was one of the increasingly common C2C actors working from a script ?

I said he probably shouldnt have sang and that it was ego driven, so I cant be missing the point. I just dont think it was that big of a deal. ive been listening to coast for so long now, nothing surprises me. But Im not so quick to shoot down every little thing and criticize. Like when Tommy said he would help pay a 20 or 40 dollar grocery bill. Why exactly is that so hard to believe? Just because you hate them? I hate a lot of people, but if they do something nice, I try to give them the benefit of the doubt. And just for the record, I still think coast is a fucking train wreck. I just dont see what the big deal is about last night's show.

I can't think of one thing I like about George Noory, as a host or as a person.  His personal stories seem either completely made up, or grossly embellished.  Same with the stories told of Tommy's adventures.

After all this time, I see no reason to give either of them the benefit of the doubt on anything.  I see no reason not to criticize George for his egomania and narcissism, or to scoff at made up personal stories.  We've all had more than enough of these jerk-offs who decided to ruin a great radio show.

Morgus

Noory last night was probably testing his idea to record a bunch of songs with him singing and put them on an audio CD to sell in his new c2c online store to gullible nooryites? :o

I agree about this. The Hate must go where it is needed most. Let the fool sing if it makes him happy.

However, about the tommy thing, it's because we know that the 'noory clan' is generally full of shit, in the myriad ways painstakingly documented above, that we tend to expect the worst.
But good on him if he really is doing stuff like that. For an encore, tommy - could you maybe produce a slightly better show, please?

This is what George does regarding animals (having no empathy, not understanding or caring about feelings).  He has learned that most other people love animals and even have pets.  He heard Art Bell talk about his cats, and heard listeners call in to ask about them.  So George invents Casey the Dog.  He's talks about the 'time he gave some old lady whose dog died a puppy'.

Imagine Creepy George at a party, trying to fit in if the talk turns to pets. "Yeah, Casey loves it when I play hide and seek with him. As soon as he sees that big ol' 8-battery cattle prod, he'll act all scared and run under the bed and whimper like he's terrified. I love the way he sings when I pop him in ass with that thing....What?...What?...Was it wrong to say 'ass'?"

Quote from: WOTR on February 18, 2012, 03:45:25 AM...Was it my imagination, or did he refer to the World Health Organization as the "who?"

And their first hit, "My I-I-Inoculation". bada bump Ooh, sorry.

Okay, I've got to listen. I'm going in...cover me.

30 seconds later: Dear God. Dear, sweet, God. Drunk uncle, indeed. A drunk Russian uncle, with a problem with a his "l's". Holy crap. Mournful, lugubrious, looping, sliding, glissando-ing all over the scale until a familiar note is hit. I may note recover.

This version of the song is soo amazing I am burning it to CD so I can listen to it when I have a bad day.  It's pure genius comedy not to mention his intro to the song.  I would love to see him do this live.

Ian just tweeted that Jorge will be giving us all a break and taking 2/24 off with Ian filling in. Ian didn't actually say 'giving us all a break', I thought I'd add the obvious, but even though Jorge will still suck on 2/24, the good news is that he will be taking his suckage elsewhere, thus giving us all a break.

Thanks Jorge. Feel free to take some more Fridays off. Also Monday through Thursday.

I'm falling for John B Wells.  He is so in the spirit of Art Bell.  Great bummer music, listens, thinks and responds, not rushed.  I would seriously never sleep if it were him more often.

Adding to my list of what I hate about Noorey...
How about when he uses nicknames with people he doesn't know?  He does it to convey a sense of familiarity.  With people he doesn't even know or guests he wants to appear tight with!

GAG!

Did I mention his bumper music?  Jarring at best.

I like this John B Wells.  Do you think George will start marginalizing him like he did to Ian?  He is obviously guarding his turf.  They know it and all pay their homage - for all the good it does. George N-EGO-ory and I don't mean waffles or do I?  NEGGOrey...OK it's late but I was kept up listening to that velvet toned man-angel.

I think I'll go now.

sleeplessinca

Just heard N-EGO-orey sing.

The guy has lost it.  What a gag-fest.    Just when I thought he couldn't get worse he finds a way.  Don't do it again dude.  BIG MISTAKE.

I am so embarrassed for him. and can't stop thinking of terrible things to say.  I'll think of Wells and go to sleep.

I'm definitely not going into the student load debate here (too many conflicting thoughts about that), but I did want to point out one comment Snoory made during that show (which was a shitty Coast topic to begin with)...

He invited "parents or grandparents" dealing with student loan debt to call in.  Not anyone who is, I don't know, a student or was a student dealing with the debt?  This actually annoyed me a great deal.  I know many many recent graduates and grad students and not a single one of their parents or grandparents has a damn thing to do with any of their student debt. Does he completely write off or dismiss younger listeners?  Does he not value their thoughts on the matter?  Does he assume no one younger listens?  I suppose he doesn't want them to.  Old folks are more likely to want to listen about turmeric and angels, I guess.

In any case, I started listening to Art when I was 16 years old.  The Jorch Noory Show is just for lonely and gullible geezers, but really, Coast to Coast AM shouldn't be.

I get the feeling George has never done much of anything on his own.  Same thing with his own kids from what he says about them.  It probably doesn't occur to him that most others do.

Listening to that, I imagined his mother telling him for years now that he should sing on his show, and pictured Lisa fianlly throwing up her hands and telling him to go ahead.

Since it was obviously pre-recorded, I wonder how many takes he did.  Knowing lazy George, probably just one.  But imagine sitting at a desk in the office on the day George Noory decided he needs to sing that over and over to get it just right.

A challenge to those out there who have more experience dubbing videos than me.. Take this YouTube 'classic' and make it .. better.
Voiceover? Music.. something? .. Anything. Maybe nothing.
Maybe even play the Elvis singing overtop when Noory speaks?
I'd do it if I could.
It's worth a shot for whoever is off this Presidents Day
