Yes...Hurricanes have hit FL for many many years, but this one is a monster because the oceans are getting warmer, and warm water (especially lots of it like the Atlantic) is the food that hurricanes use. The oceans are getting warmer because they're artificially warming up, glaciers are melting now where they never used to be less than about twenty feet thick.

Yikes. The highest point in Key West is 18 feet above sea level. In Key Largo it's almost seven feet.

Hitting Cuba is going to help Florida somewhat.  Winds will probably be down at the 2:00 AM update.  Hopefully it stays over Cuba long enough to diminish its strength to a low Category 4 or high Category 3 Hurricane.  If that happens though it might not turn North before hitting Key West then  it could strengthen over the gulf and ride up West Coast enabling it to strengthen back up to a Category 5 and makes landfall on the panhandle and could be a much stronger storm for inland Georgia.

Ha. Well not ha, really. But same here. I was thinking that TCM would go like normal networks and go with "hurricane" theme. Also I recall an Addams Family episode, but can't search around and find it, where Morticia was reminiscing about her and Gomez traveling to and enjoying a hurricane.

As of 2 AM, it is still packing 160 mph winds and still going west according to NOAA. I still think it is moving to the NW.

That is the clouds encountering a dry air mass and evaporating.  It has been very dry and cool the last couple days in the Southeast.  The atmosphere will eventually moisten up if the storm moves into Florida.
