I hadn't even heard of this Apex Legends game until yesterday, and now it seems like everyone is talking about it.

QuoteEight hours after its launch, the game surpassed a million unique players, and reached 2.5 million unique players within 24 hours. In three days, the game had over 10 million unique players, with a peak of one million concurrent. By February 11th, a week after release, it had reached 25 million unique players, and "well over" 2 million peak concurrent players.

Apex Legends was announced on February 4, 2019, the Monday before EA had reported its latest quarterly financial results, which did not meet expectations and caused EA's stock value to drop 13% the next day. However, as news and popularity of Apex Legends spread, analysts saw the game as something to challenge the dominance of Fortnite Battle Royale, and by that Friday, February 8, 2019, EA had seen its largest growth in stock value since 2014 on the basis of Apex Legends' sudden success.[

I have never even heard of Fortnite.   I thought World of Warcraft was the big online thing.   *sigh*

Thanks! Interesting history esp with regard to the business angle. Unfortunately one controller was stepped on decades ago but still "works" but needs some knowledge to work. Lost the color facades/overlays over the years but the games still good in b&w. Mainly just a set-piece in the game room but every so often break out and play. The superchip is good for stand-up unit but I really want a true Tempest standup. Monitor sites. Haha. That game was epic.

Ha that’s cool! My friend had a Vectrex. The vector graphics engine produced some really cool arcade games back in the day. Battlezone was sweet.

A favorite of mine as well. There was an urban legend about being able to drive into the volcano but apparently it’s BS. I think they should just do a vector based remake where that’s possible. Another vector fav is Gravitar. It’s probably the most challenging one. It’s like Asteroids x Lunar Lander. It’s easier with a PS3/4 controller but the original arcade machine just had dials and buttons. Like I said, it’s super challenging. As you ascend the levels the gravity also increases. Frankly some of the high gravity rounds seem almost impossible to me but apparently some have made it through.

Some years back Clyde was mentioning some game that was a alphabet-agency but only put in Portland area or regions as a "test."

I want a Tempest stand-up still and monitor sites.

I enjoyed that one too back in the day but you need that dial or the game sucks. Yeah, might as well pick up a cabinet if you can.

There’s also this option but I’ve heard they’re a little more compact than a full size unit. They also sell a riser for it though.

Ah yes.  Polybius.

The Astonishing Legends boys did an episode on it here:

Jackstar

I think that if they had named it Tom Clancy's Deus Ex Diablo, it would have sold at least a few more copies.

Good to see this getting a new release - it's been on my 'to play' list for some time.

Have been playing Prey (2017) which is a 'spiritual successor' to System Shock/Bioshock and is pretty good. It's set on a space station between Earth and the Moon where a company had been conducting ethically dubious experiments which undergoes a catastrophe. While I'd say it's not really a horror game, it has constant tension because some enemies can hide themselves as any nearly object in the game world, there's a learning curve, and you're often extremely weak and underpowered compared to the enemies.
