Seriously though, his Batman was a childhood hero to me and many others. I had the same take on it as Kevin Smith did. When I was a kid I didn't realize it was satire. It think it's quite a feat for a show to appeal to different demographics for different reasons. It's too bad the pilot he did with Conan O'Brien never got picked up. It looked like it would've been hilarious!  ;

Jesus. I just read an article the other day where he was quoted as saying he wasn't going to do any "crazy stunts" on the show anymore for the sake of his family. Doesn't even look like he was going that fast.

This one really saddens me, love the 60s Batman series. I was surprised he was 88, I thought he was younger. I think hearing him voice Mayor Adam West in Family Guy made him feel younger than he was.

Fans of the old Batman series will enjoy "Return to the Batcave", a tongue-in-cheek reunion of West and Ward, along with a few of then (2002?) still living actors who played villians in the series.  The movie uses a lot of flashbacks, both through old clips and with young actors portraying the series original stars, to tell many of the back stories associated with the program.  The plot of the movie is corny, but learning some of behind the scenes stuff is worth sitting through it.

Another childhood Cultural Icon .... gone 

I got to meet Adam at a fan convention in Plano, Tx. in 2001. He autographed my DVD of Batman: The Movie. He was the real deal, truly appreciative of his fans.

Being dropped off by my parents at the local theater on that summer morning in 1966, to see Batman: The Movie, as a 10 year old, is one of the highlights of my movie-going career....

Adam is now on assignment in the Heaven-lies.

One time paramour of both Brian Jones and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones has died.  Anita Pallenberg was 75.  No cause of death was given.  She can be seen in Nicholas Roeg's film, Performance, along with the Stones frontman, Mick Jagger.  Her other film of note was Barbarella, supporting Jane Fonda. She had two children with Richards.   RIP, Anita.

There was a Fan Convention in Plano in 2001?  How did I not know this?

Robin was also supposed to be there, but he would not fly after 9/11.

But, The Riddler and Cat Woman were there, also, the Batmobile.

I love the dry wit of Adam West.

When he addressed the crowd, he said "Well, here we are, at another plain old Batman Convention..." (With "plain old" sounding like "Plano")

The Bat-Signal is usually reserved for times of trouble, a call for the Caped Crusader to come out of the Batcave and defeat the villains.

But if you look up to the sky tonight in Los Angeles and see the famed signal, you won't have to fear.

The City of Angels will honor the late, great Adam West by illuminating the Bat-Signal for those wanting to pay their respects to TV's original Batman.

Mayor Eric Garcetti and L.A. Police Department Chief Charlie Beck will preside over the ceremony. The public is welcome to attend, and will start at 9PM at City Hall.

Germany's Helmut Kohl dies, aged 87

Helmut Kohl, Germany's ex-chancellor and architect of reunification in 1990, has died at 87, German media say. 
Mr Kohl led Germany for 16 years (from 1982 to 1998). He is credited with bringing East and West Germany together after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Together with his French ally President Francois Mitterrand, he was responsible for the introduction of the euro.
Mr Kohl, who led the centre-right Christian Democrats, was the longest-serving German chancellor of the 20th Century.
In the UK, he is remembered for his differences over the EU with the late UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
