These rascals?

Yes!!!! The foundation of my diet growing up!
Me at 6yo: fruit juice? Well, we calls 'em chugs...

Never seen those before, interesting. I do remember when the first pouch/box drinks came on the market:

Ahhh, something I got to watch the rich kids drink at lunch! 😀

I've never heard of those but I wouldn't mind having a few packs in the truck, just in case.

WeinerInHand

@Metron. I saw your post in another thread about a WWII flight sim. Do you remember this one?

Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII

By far, my favorite flight sim ever.

Old tymey stuff for sure - like flavored Alka Seltzer tabs... ;)

Sadly:

Please note: We are sad to annouce that the manufacturer of Fizzies has once again gone out of business. When our current stock is gone we will be unable to get more. We are disappointed too.
...

I remember when I discovered Fizzies and thought I had found the ultimate in candy. It was the early 60's and I was 12. I was amazed how you could just pop a small flavored disk into water and all of a sudden a sweet drink appeared before your eyes. To me it had to be magic. My dad would take me to the store and with my 50 cents allowance I would buy as much as I could to share with my sisters and friends. We all would giggle with anticipation waiting for the water to turn into a sweet and delicious drink.

My dad was sent to Vietnam and I insisted that we send him some Fizzies in his care package, even though my mom was not quite sure about the appropriateness. She brought me to the store though, I bought some with my allowance and lovingly packed them in the box. To this day he still says that it was the Fizzies which brought him home safely as he knew there was someone special he had to come home to. ~ Laurie from MS

Looks awesome, that's one I haven't seen. I had lots of grins playing Crimson Skies on Xbox 1, but that's been over a decade ago.

For PC my faves were Castle Wolfenstein, Battlefield 1942, and so on. Now I kind wish I'd kept some of that stuff - oh what a way to burn some hours off, no?

Here's one maybe you might have missed:

Very fanciful in a steampunk way, quite immersive too:

Hahaha - how could I forget Crimson Skies?!!!
My first online game for the xbox. Great story!

I soon graduated to MechAssault

I've never heard of Flying Heroes but I played something similar in Unreal Championship 2

And we mustn't forget Fable!

Lotsa cool ones there, I loved the planes of Crimson Skies, especially that one that looked a bit like a Stuka but shot lightning bolts. ;D

Produced under close security at the Bayerische Flugzeugwerke, the Bf 106 was bought exclusively by agents of the German government and supplied to Von Essen and his Die Spinne group.

Von Essen had the Piranha's hardpoints replaced with his own Tesla projector, a weapon designed to disable an enemy's avionics, making him easy prey to the Piranha's machine guns. Although effective, the Piranha suffered against heavier opposition, and was almost totally ineffective against zeppelins.

Von Essen therefore acquired the Focke-Wulf Fw 206 Doppleganger to provide his growing air force with heavier firepower. Die Spinne air forces rapidly developed the most effective strategy - Piranhas would distract and destroy escort fighters, while the heavier Dopplegangers would use their earthshattering Blockbuster cannon to destroy hard targets.

The Hughes Aviation P21-JMK11 Devastator outperformed every combat aircraft in speed, armament, and maneuverability, when it was first released. Although it is now dated, it is still used as a fighter-bomber, where its lack of speed can be overcome by its agility and firepower.

For a split second I thought the guns were mounted to shoot aft. What a concept! :)

Wonder how it would fare against this ace...

Focke-Wulf constructed this heavy fighter as a replacement for their Fw 198 Hellhound, and were rather gratified when the German government bought up the entire first production run of 250 units. However, not a single Doppleganger has appeared on a Luftwaffe base, and Focke-Wulf found the government unwilling to purchase any more. Faced with the unenviable prospect of a large stock with no buyer, Focke-Wulf put the Doppleganger up for sale on the open market, where it has sold much like the craft handles - slowly, sluggishly and with the creeping sensation that it's about to stop altogether.

The Doppleganger's primary weapon, the Blockbuster cannon, was adapted from a Krupp 80mm tank cannon, making it the largest gun ever mounted on a production aircraft.

Gotta love the whimsy in a one engine, unbalanced airframe!

One of the more popular 'Mechs of the game, the Mad Cat is also one of the first 'Mechs to appear in the Inner Sphere. It is one of the most expensive 'Mechs to build, but worth it. Through time it ceased to be manufactured. Its weapons platform is very powerful and devastating. The Mad Cat can travel at speeds of up to 20 M/h (32 Km/h) and weighs in at 75 tons, with twin PPC cannons and the two large missile launchers on its shoulders, firing 4 missiles at a time total. Also, the Mad Cat comes with dual Machine Guns allowing for damage to continue if the 'Mech is overheating.

Very cool, but I'm not all that fond of winter, can we do this in Arixo?

Metron2267

Funny thing how this looks a lot like the proposed breakup of America maps, innit?

It could be worse

It's kinda funny how Gordon Michael Scallion's old doomsday map has been altered and made the rounds on social media

Metron2267

Lol, Scallion was quite the Coast regular in his day wasn't he?

I can go a step past that to the pole shift global inundation map from Zeta Talk:

http://poleshift.ning.com/profiles/blogs/aftertime-lat-long-grid-lines-what-will-your-new-climate-be

Now before you go all sensible on me, consider our migrating north pole, this from 2011:

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/adjust-your-compass-now-the-north-pole-is-migrating-to-russia-2233610.html

It sounds unlikely but it's true: the magnetic north pole is moving faster than at any time in human history, threatening everything from the safety of modern transport systems to the traditional navigation routes of migrating animals.

Scientists say that magnetic north, which for two centuries has been in the icy wilderness of Canada, is currently relocating towards Russia at a rate of about 40 miles a year. The speed of its movement has increased by a third in the past decade, prompting speculation that the field could be about to "flip", causing compasses to invert and point south rather than north, something that happens between three and seven times every million years.

Already the phenomenon is causing problems in the field of aviation. Tampa International airport in Florida has just spent a month renaming its three runways, which in common with those at most US airports are identified using numbers that correspond to the direction, in degrees, that they face on a compass. "Everything had to be changed; it was a huge project," Brenda Geoghagan, a spokeswoman for the airport, said.

Some Scallion predictions archived for those who care:

http://www.v-j-enterprises.com/scalpred.html

Scallion believes the major changes listed above will be followed by a shift in the Earth's poles, which will take place sometime between 1998 and 2001. The pole shift will cause ice to cover much of the land in the Pacific area. It will also alter the entire weather system of the planet. As the result of these changes, most of the United States will become temperate, with an average temperature of 75 degrees year round.

Before the major changes mentioned above begin, Scallion believes the following events will occur as warning signs:

Mt. Rainier in Washington state will erupt. Scallion predicts that Mt. Rainier will explode in a southwesterly direction and that its eruption will be greater than Mt. St. Helens.

At the same time Mt. Rainier erupts, a major earthquake (in the vicinity of 9 on the Richter scale), will strike Mexico City or nearby.
A new volcano will be born in the Sierra Nevada near the Nevada-California border.

Water temperatures off the west coast will rise.

A hum phenomena will begin to make vast numbers of people sick with flu-like symptoms in America. The hum phenomena, according to Scallion, will be caused by tectonic plates rubbing against one another. This rubbing will generate a sound just below the threshold of human hearing and will cause nausea, chest pains, possibly even heart-failure in some people. It will affect the inner ear, thyroid, pituitary, lungs and heart. Animals will also become increasingly erratic as this phenomena becomes stronger and more wide spread.

If volcanic activity occurs simultaneously on Mount Vesuvius and Mount Etna in Italy, or Mount Pelee on Martinique, then the West Coast break up will occur within days.

Large solar flares will help trigger the super-mega California earthquake.

And finally, an increased activity in the Pacific Ring of Fire is a sign the major upheavals are preparing to begin.

Other Scallion predictions include:

Seven plagues will manifest on the planet in the next seven years: 1. Metastic Melanoma Cancer; 2. A new virulent TB; 3. A different strain of the AIDS virus, which can be transmitted through the air, or even electromagnetically; 4. The failure of the optic system; 5. The failure of the thymus; 6. The failure of the pancreas; 7. A disorder of the Astral and Etheric bodies, wherein they meld, making the victim susceptible to interference from the "borderland" beyond death (which would create psychic disturbances).

Weather will become erratic all over the world. Dry places will become wet and wet places will become dry. There will be extended droughts, wide-spread flooding, unusually powerful storms and summer and spring will merge into one season in America.

It is. New Years festivities are over. I get some time to decide whether or not to go to the Chinese New year festival down in Yokohama Chinatown or not.
