I haven't changed from when you though I was 'cool' (I don't think I am, but thanks for the compliment); I recognise in Trump many of the traits that Thatcher had and I lived through. The shit her policies caused and with ongoing repurcussions in 2017. She too promised the world to everyone, and when elected in 1979 (she served three terms as PM) enough believed her. Helped by the fact the previous few years had been an economic disaster.

She promised the world; what she didn't mention was that a great many of those who voted for her would be shafted. A lot. And they were. She got in twice more because the opposition couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery let alone a viable political alternative, so it became better the devil you know.

Trump will destroy the genuine affection the USA has through most of the world. That has been nurtured because a great many of the population in tbe USA went there past and present from those countries that still have families of the emigrees. Bush W started the trend to make the USA too insular, but compared with Trump, Bush W will go down as a fucking genius.

Trump, like Thatcher, sold a dream. His dream. For him. At least Thatcher had some ability to speak in an intelligent and coherent manner, and never accused the press of being the vehicle of fake news; and believe me, she got much more negative press than Trump has. He'd really chuck his toys out if he'd been faced with what met her on a daily basis in the papers.

The other difference between them is although I loathed Thatcher, I think  she genuinely believed she was doing the right thing for Britain, Trump is doing what is right for him and the other billionaires in his new swamp.

I can't speak for this guy but simply because some Swedes have never heard of him doesn't mean he couldn't be an expert or commentator on Sweden. This happens all the time. We have experts, professors, etc on literally everything under the sun- and it is not necessary that the subject of their expertise needs knowledge of them (or even to be able to have knowledge.)

remember this "fake news?" The guy was criminally charged. So often, in life and in news media, if you "act as though you belong" you can get away with stuff. So many people over the years are, finally, found out after lying on resumes, having second lives/families, faked degrees, and other frauds.
