I enjoyed Bill Birnes' and Joel Martin's detailed story about how creepy New Orleans is and how many tragedies have happened there ever since Marie Laveau, the Voodoo Priestess, years ago put a curse on the whole city...Just as Birnes finally paused to catch his breath, though, George said (with feigned great interest), "And didn't somebody put a curse on that city?"

You can't make this stuff up.  ::)

Amazing.  You'd think that after a weekend of rest he would come back...I don't know...motivated to do better?  I doubt he ever thinks about the show.  It's all layed out for him.  He's not even involved in picking the "ghost to ghost" stories.  It's all in the hands of  cheesy producer Tom.  These days he just cares about increasing his "Insider" subscriptions so that he can lay the numbers on the network's desk and show them what a good boy he is.  I've also noticed his habit of saying to his guest, "lets talk about..(insert subject).  He has no interest in "talking about" anything.  That would require him to say something relevant.  He should just say, "Bill, give me two sentences on...", "Joel, one sentence on..."

All through their Hallowe'en-appropriate story George threw in his usual comments of "absolutely" and "sure." Just as Birnes finally paused to catch his breath, though, George said (with feigned  great interest), "And didn't somebody put a curse on that city?"

You can't make this stuff up.  ::)

Wasn't that just . . . classic?

And to think the two guests started their discussion of New Orleans saying, "Marie Laveau--she put a curse on New Orleans."

Does George ever listen to anything anybody else says?

I am a newbie .....

I have gotten to the point that he just amazes me with simplistic questions. And the the lack of pre-production meetings and getting questions together BEFORE the show stalls my car. Why would there be a studio on ....."THE BIG ISLAND"...???
So many missed opportunity's  for great follow up questions stuns me.

I have started work on a new theory...  I believe that this is similar to a video game.  If Noory sells ____ subscriptions to the insiders club, collects _____ sales in prepackaged food, convinces _____ number of people to purchase gold, helps sell _____ C-Crane radios AND actually convinces 100 people that his "work from home" scam is worth signing onto he "levels up" and is allowed use of the studio on "the big island."

The problem is that he has taken too long and is now in penalty phase.  Now he must "coauthor" 5 books.  He has one completed, and I did hear that he is "working" on 3 more to be released over the coming months (or years.)  George is "working hard" to make it happen.  He would have 5 in the works, but that bastard Ian refused to allow him to sign his name as co-author of the childrens book Dizzy the Mutt with the Propeller Butt.

Premiere leaves it completely up to him which scam to promote on which night and he is permitted to use whatever script he believes will work best.  Instead of preparing for a new guest each night he is formulating a plan to "level up" and travel to the "big island."

Anyhow, welcome... you have found a place where most people should appreciate your assessment of Noory.

Great point. I'll add that it seems like most of the science we hear on C2C about is 'quantum consciousness', or quantum this, or quantum that. Pretty fringe stuff most of the time that doesn't seem to have a whole lot of substance, or at least doesn't get explained in depth and usually gets tied into talking about God. Moreover, most of the time it seems like the guests who throw out those phrases aren't even scientists themselves, and they just tag 'quantum' on to make their views sound legitimate. And then of course Noory has to pose his favorite questions, like 'do you think we can travel through time?' and 'what about the God particle?' No wonder people in general have such strange opinions about physics...of course the history channel and discovery channel documentaries don't help much either, they are pretty sensationalist themselves.

The problem is that Noory has no concept of what actual science is.  He thinks that wild speculation and unsubstantiated claims are the stuff of science.  Hence the C2C "science advisor", Richard Hoagland, who is 10 times more clever than Noory, but still a shameless self-promoter and charlatan.  I'm pretty sure that Noory's concept of a scientist is a guy who sits around looking at and writing indecipherable equations and staring at a computer all day.  I've said it on the forum before, and I'll say it again - Noory says he loves science, but he wouldn't know actual science if it booted him straight in his hairy ass and then did a dance in front of him.  So it's just more of the same with Noory, all fluff, no actual substance.  A show geared for uncritical thinkers and woo-woo new agers.

I'll give you an example as to why I agree with you.  Tonight during his usual spin on the news to match his uncritical 'thinking' (a long stretch to say he thinks) opinions he mentioned there were 20 deaths due to the HPV vaccine.  It's obvious Noory is a proud card carrying member of the anti-vax community with all of their paranoid delusions and anti-science 'correlation proves causation' belief dealing with not only HPV but with autism and everything else that ails us.  I give you the nutcase Horowitz who Georgie was fear porning with a few nights ago.  If he and Horowitz had half a functioning brain, they'd know not to make such a statement to an acquaintance, and above all not to his radio audience where people will be led to believe that Noory knows what he speaks of, which is absolute BS.  But Noory doesn't have a conscience and has no integrity, so it doesn't bother him in the least to spout such unproven and nonsensical crap about his fear of vaccines as facts. It seems to me that Georgie would rather see people get cancer and be a death's door rather than have a simple and harmless shot that could prevent it. Noory is a genuine classless douche bag and as much a "science lover" as Hoaxland is a qualified science advisor.

No mystery there.  He has a piece of the baking soda/maple syrup "cure".  What amazes me is how he's the first to scream "Big Pharma!" then goes on to sell a concoction that has NEVER BEEN TESTED!  Hey, George!  If you put horse shit in a pill and say it cures cancer, someone will buy it.
I'll take my chances with the vaccines.
Rant over.

Peter Davenport on the "Brazilian Alien" video.  I think Knapp mentioned it this weekend.  What's an alien doing in the jungles of Brazil?  I think it's just a tree branch.  Discussing the nature of violence, Steven Pinker rises above George Noory's third grade questions ("Will good always defeat evil?"  "Are most people nice and good?") and makes the interview worthwhile.  As a physicist searches for that moment in time when the universe is created, a snoorologist searches and identifies that moment when George has run out of questions.  Tonight it went like this: "ok...well...eh...eh..."  But fear not, for later George was to suddenly stumble on an unchecked index card, and after Pinker gave an intelligent, thoughtful, and deep dissertation on the evolution of human "co-operation", George blurts out, "can you lobotomize someone to eliminate violence?"  Huh?  What?  Yeah, I could take the lobotomy/Noory thing a little further, but I gotta go feed the cat.

Didn't someone once put a curse on New Orleans?

That was Monday night's question, PB.

Tuesday's question: "What is this 'circle of expansion' thing you talk about?"

Caller: Can you tell me about any of today's thinkers who have inspired you?

Pinker: Well, there are many, and I'm sure that the audience may not have heard of some of them.  But one is Peter Singer, a controversial writer who latest book, The Expanding Circle, has influenced me.  Singer describes a movement from a time when as humans our circle of empathy included only ourselves and our mate, our children, our close family members toward a time when that circle has come to include all others across the globe, even animals, as part of our circle of those whom we care about.  Another writer who has influenced my thinking is blah blah blah blah blah . . . . [2 or 3 minutes of discussion]

Another caller.

Georgie (shuffling through his 3X5 cards): Tell me Steven, what is this expanding circle you speak of?

[Loud aaaaarrrrrrgggghhh from listeners who aren't brain dead.]

Pinker is forced to repeat (without pointing out that he has JUST FINISHED DESCRIBING THIS CIRCLE) everything he said about the expanding circle.

El Kragen

IMO there are two ways C2C hosts can run the show and make it successful: Ian's style where the book is read and various points are brought up and discussed, intelligently. Then there's Art's style where he's semi informed on the topic but has the ability to ask the right questions to get the guest to say what needs to be said, a smooth normal conversation.

It seems to me that George has taken the worst parts of these two styles and created a hybrid style of interviewing that is a blue print for what not to do on the radio.

It makes me sad to think I used to listen to this show every single night. Now other than one or two Ian and GKnapp's shows, I listen to George's C2C for about 30 minutes over the course of a month.

But then, after ranting about big Pharma and vaccines, radiation and chemo, etc., etc,.... he then CYA's by saying, " ... but you make your own decision..."   It's an easy call for him because, other than the obvious intellectual deficiencies, he is apparently fairly healthy.  Well, there is the pallor of death that he tries to hide with make-up and hair die, and the droopy eye, and ...

Hahaha, oh George.  If there is any one thing George Noory needs to hear over and over, it would be about having empathy for others, including animals.   Perhaps this was such a new idea for him he needed to hear it a few more times.

I think it Knapp over the weekend who apologized once (or possibly even twice) to a guest that he has not made it completely through the book.  He got most of it but stated that it required thought and he was not able to get to the end of it in time for the interview.  Perhaps Knapp knows how frustrating it is for the audience (and author) to have a host who does not know the subject matter being discussed.

Just once I am waiting to hear Noory apologize.  "I'm sorry Mr. Jones; I didn't even bother cracking the book before I auctioned it off on Ebay... I was too busy co-writting my own excellent book, Talking to the dead.  Perhaps you have heard of it?  At any rate, I am positive that you will find me an engaging host and that the callers to our open lines will fill in and offer you the relevant questions that I would if I had actually read your book or taken an interest in this subject... Off to open lines!"

There's a blurb in the Norry Wiki where his contract was supposed to end next year, but Premiere extended it until 2013. Maybe he will leave the show in a few years.

Your lips to God's ear, but that won't happen either. Absolutely amazing how the rubes who call the show manage to turn any topic and any guest into an opportunity to blather on about themselves.

Has anybody noticed...some callers have extended information about the subject at hand....i.e.: the caller who had info about the Phila. Experiment and talked in detail about what went on.... Then "Mario" does not even perk up and ask him more in depth questions....  This has happened to many times for me to count and it pets my Dog the wrong way. There is so much hidden information out there that stumbles through....Art would never let that happen. Even if the Bugs and Bigfoot show was fake...it was "CLASSIC" radio.

BTW...Art is gone because he would not be scripted and "Mario" is scripted from.."OPEN" to "CLOSE" ....and he does NOT get a commission on any ad running on the show.   I am so exhausted with "Mario"

noory originally planned to retire in Dec 2012 when he took over 8 years ago, but after a few years he decided to extend that and now has no planned retirement date.
he has reported multiple contract extensions to 2016 and beyond in the past couple years...

This is how we know George is not interested in these topics and probably never was.  It is also how we know what a lazy unprepared bastard he is.  And how dumb he is.  And that he is not a 'nice guy' (a nice guy would be listening, engaged, doing the job at least for the audience, etc).

George hates the job, but could never find one paying more than minimum wage somewhere else.

Ever since January of this year Noory has been bragging about going to the studio in Hawaii. Each time he would name the month for the big event, and then when that month passed, he would bump it to a new month.

Interesting to hear he's now just saying "soon", Morgus.  Guess that's the best a feller can do if he doesn't know what month comes after October.  ::)
