Psychedelics have a very low risk of addiction especially when people use high doses to get the brain reset effects that are being explored in the clinical trials by universities and a company called Compass Pathways.  I can speak from experience. I’m a recovering alcoholic. Been sober almost 28 years. I felt that the clinical trials could help my condition but held off for over 2 years because I was afraid my addictive personality would be drawn back into undesirable yearnings.  Exactly the opposite. Once you do them most people are profoundly glad they did but have little to no desire to go through that again. At least for awhile.

Psilocybin is self regulating in that it builds up a high tolerance immediately.  If you trip one day you would have to double the dose the next day to get a similar experience. The good news is that they have yet to find an LD50 (toxic dose) for mushrooms. They say you would have to eat your body weight in mushrooms before you had a negative physical effect.

Look up YouTube for some of Terrence McKenna’s or his brother Dennis’s discussions on “heroic doses”.

I believe the current research will end up making psilocybin an acceptable treatment for PTSD, end of life anxiety, treatment resistant depression and addiction. Compass Pathways is well on their way to offering a treatment. They have been given fast track approval by the FDA to complete advanced clinical trials and begin offering treatments in a controlled environment.  I believe they will prove to be much safer than antipsychotic medications.

Not recommended for people that have Schizophrenia.

I don’t know if I will ever try DMT or ayahuasca but peyote and psilocybin were truly a miracle treatment for my condition. Some locales have decriminalized it but outside of the clinical trials, the only legal way in the US to have access to these natural medicines is through the Native American Church.
Thanks for sharing Gravity, congratulations on your continued recovery.

I can vouch for your assertions that "Psychedelics have a very low risk of addiction" and that "Psilocybin is self regulating in that it builds up a high tolerance immediately."

In my youth, a Friday night administration of "Psilocybin" made for an interesting night of exploration.  Attempting to dose the next night (Saturday) resulted in us getting mild headaches.  Similar experiences were had with LSD.
I wish substances such as opiates/opioids were as "self-limiting" as the psychedelics are. I myself have/had issues with addiction, but have been clean of such substances for just over 5 years now.

Speaking of PTSD treatment, MDMA Ecstasy/E/Molly, has shown promise as well.  It is often grouped under the Psychedelic family, though the Methamphetamine molecule in its makeup gives it stimulant'like qualities as well. 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine

The human brain is an amazing organ.

Thanks for the pictures Hog.  That last pic, is that boyfriend that you deployed with?  Also, I have worked with 'you boys.' The PPLI.
Sorry Paladin, just seeing this now.  Yes, that last pic was a high school friend, who was a boy.  He's a provincial cop now and we have drifted apart for the most part.  For that pic we were both still Royal Canadian Regiment(RCR),  PPCLI(Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry) and a couple battalions of the RCR pulled Roto's throughout the conflict.

1)Did you work on an M109 "Paladin" crew?  or a fan of the weapons system?

It was my favourite self propelled gun.  As a kid I had books on tanks and self propelled guns.  What impressed me was the way the M109 had a "rest" where the actual gun was held in place while the gun was changing position.  I always thought, "Boy that gun must be special, for them "lock it down" in a special rest before the vehicle was moved."  Later in life when I could understand exactly what a 155mm howitzer could do was when my boyhood thoughts (no Paladin, not THOSE boyhood thoughts, the thoughts about the 155mm gun) were proven correct.  That 155mm gun WAS indeed special.

2) Are all M109's referred to as "Paladin" or just the M109A6 variant?
b) What variant did you have experience with?

The first time I worked with US troops was a Fort Custer, IIRC It was a huge ANG base in Michigan?  It was where I threw my first M-67 (C-13) hand grenades.  We had a convoy of Greyhound coaches and military trucks carrying all out ammo and explosives.  It was interesting when the border guards came up the front steps of the bus and there's C7(M16's) and C9 LMGs(SAW) littering the coach.  One of the few times Canadians entering the USA actual had more firepower than the border guards.  That changed with 9/11.

3) Were you involved in Desert Shield/Storm?  That was just before my time, but was certainly one of the reasons why I served.  In fact, if I wouldn't have been forced to give up my Canadian citizenship, must be 100% American citizen/no dual citizenships allowed for the units I was interested in, I would have had the "Stars & Stripes" Velcro'd to my shoulder instead of the Maple Leaf.  I'm pretty sure the Canadian facemask for Nuclear
Biological/Chemical is the eact same, or very similar to the US facemask which is part or was part of the US MOPP Mission Oriented Protective Posture.
Starting at the facemask, there was a tube with a fitting at the end.  That fitting fit perfectly into a fitting that was located on the screw on cap of the plastic water canteens that we were issued.  You would decontaminate the tube and the canteen fitting and then mate them. This allowed the wearer to consume fluids, without exposing themselves to pathogens.  Wearing that NBC gear during operations wasnt fun, it was so freaking hot. I remember the sweat collecting and floating around inside the mask.

IIRC Some of the Airforce guys that worked on teh ground has special MOPP gear that circulated cooling water or air through a vest that was worn.  I "heard" that the guys on the flightline would quickly become heat casualties without such devices.
No such gizmos for us grunts. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, and STILL piss orange juice.

Thanks for any insight you may give us Paladin.  I really miss my Army days, well parts of it anyways.

As many are without their own hens or not living in more rural areas due to the 'shelter in place,' 'self-quarantine,' and hoarding cause by Doc Wallet admonitions that everyone should eat so many eggs daily.

I wonder if he could come up with a powdered product containing powdered eggs, toomeric, ascorbic acid, and dried beet extract that one could insufflate or mix with water?

And a special UV lamp so that those in non-sunny lands or 'self quarantined' can get vitamin D. We need to BEAT this bioweapon, Doc Wallet, step up with your products!
I heard somewhere that exposing the arms and face to direct sunlight for 15 minutes a day, in Northern latitudes was enough UV to allow the body to synthesize cholicaliciferol=D3(sp?), provided there was no deficiency in precursors.

MV and Evelyn discussed this in detail on an episode of the Michael Vanderhooven's Radio Trainwreck.  MV mentioned his use of Vitamin D "gummies".  The selling point of gummie type medications is
A) they are a good way to get a child to take their meds(can also cause overdose as kids think its "just" candy.  B) That because you can keep them in your mouth and allow them to dissolve, that the resulting medication/saliva syrup is more completely absorbed when compared to a tablet, that can sometimes pass completely through the GI tract and present itself WHOLE while riding a brown torpedo to the depths of your toilet bowl.  While someone might see a whole pill in their stool, that doesn't necessarily mean the medication went unabsorbed through your GI tract. One very popular controlled release pain medication that bound the medication in a wax derived medium that allowed the drug, Oxycodone to be released by the whole pill over 12 hours allowing for a more easily dosed medication.  Instead of taking a couple immediate/quick release Oxycodone pills every 3-4 hours, a patient could take a single pill every 12 hours. The most common acetaminophen/oxycodone pill here is the 5 milligram oxycodone dose that's mixed with 325 or 500 milligrams of acetaminophen/paracetamol/Tylenol. They are called Percocette, Percs,Oxycocette Taking 2 provides a 10 mg opioid/650/1000mg non-opioid pain reliever. Swapping out Tylenol for ASA(AcetylSalicylicAcid=Aspirin) with the oxycodone changes the name to Percodan.  If your pain dictates that you dose every 3 hours, then that's 10mg x 4=40mg.  Instead of gobbling 8 Percs, a single 40 mg oxycodone controlled release tablet covers the opiate portion of the drug therapy. In 1996 physicians were being trained to use opiates more and more. Instead of being reserved for end of life pain control which is classified as severe pain, physicians were being told that the way in which OxyContin uses a time release feature renders controlled release oxycodone MUCH less addictive than oral morphine, therefore is safe to prescribe to people with moderate to severe pain.  The physicians training the physicians were paid by Purdue. One of these Purdue paid physicians, is now Canada's number one advocate against Purdues marketing practices.

OxyContin was available in 10mg, 20mg, 40mg, 80mg and 160mg controlled release oxycodone.  A single OxyContic 160mg tablet has the same amount of opioid in it as is contained within 32 Percocet tablets.  Even if you assume that the 160mg tablet is releasing approx. 13.3 milligrams of oxycodone per hour(160mg/12 hours=13.3mg) that single oral pill, taken by someone who is opioid naive could EASILY kill them.  It was for this reason that in 2001 that the 160mg OxyContin tabs were discontinued in North American trade. Then you take into account that ANY of the Oxycontin family can be converted from a tablet, into a very fine powder for insufflation(snorting) or for IV use within 30 seconds, which defeats ALL of the time release properties, giving you 100% of the oxycodone that was designed to be released evenly over 12 hours in your gut, all at once.  Purdue couldnt design an easier to abuse drug if they wanted to.
1)Place tablet in mouth
2) Wipe off outter coating with Kleenex
3) Place tablet on hard surface
4) Crush with bottom of water glass
5) If needed finish powdering with credit card
6) Snort away!

Here is pics of the available OxyContin selection. Prior to 2001 when the 160mg "purple barrels" were pulled from the market.

The 40mg tablets, weighed exactly half of the 80mg tablets and the 160's weighed the same as 2 80's. So they could make 40's, 80's and 160's from teh same exact preparation.  The 10's and 20's were the same weight, thus the 10's and the 20's both had unique preparations.  By simply changing the size of the pills, thus changing their masses, Purdue was able to offer 5 different dosages of OxyContin, while having to create only 3 different formulations.

All the fun in Canada stopped in 2012, when OxyNeo was introduced by Purdue.  OxyNeo was a new formulation "tamper resistant" formulation.  Since Purdues patent had just expired, many Canadian companies took over the highly abuseable formulation and started pumping them out.  As of 2017, there was no more production of time release Oxycodone preparations in Canada. Strong heroin and/or oxycodone opened up a market not previously penetrated by heroin. Many find injection to not be an option for them, but insufflating a powder is much more acceptable. Highschool and college kids could now enjoy all teh greatness of opiates, without the injection stigma  associated with street heroin.
Oxycontin allowed the user
1)an opiate supply made in an FDA approved laboratory , typically not mixed in a garbage can in the middle of a jungle
2)no hazardous "cutting" agents.  Street heroin is typically under 20%, usually WAY under 20% and sometimes bad cutting agents are used.
3)If a legit tablet, OxyContin provided an easily measured drug. No wondering if your next "dose" will be a hot does and kill you.

All this removal of oxycontin/oxycodone products did, was to force users to get into the Fentanyl and Carfentanyl craziness, as a result more people are dying as it's IMPOSSIBLE for a typical user to measure drugs that are measured in micrograms, or one-millionth(.000001) of a gram.(28 grams in an ounce)

Gone are the days when scoring some good old No. 4 "China White" diacetylmorphine/diamorphine sold by Bayer under the tradename-Heroin.  The new drug Heroin, worked great for morphine addiction.
I have a hardcover copy of the Merck manual which is a staple of medical type schooling. When I bought the book at the University of Toronto bookstore it came with a copy of the same Merck Manual that was printed back in 1897.  The amount of cocaine hydrochloride, morphine and diamorphine(Heroin) that was included in MANY of the treatments of the day was impressive.  Currently morphine is the most commonly used of the 3 and although Cocaine Hydrochloride in an aqueous solution is used as an anesthetic for certain eye procedures. The local hospital still stocks it, but has been supplanted by non-cocaine solutions.
"Heroin is making a comeback, in a BIG way."  John Travolta's "smack" dealer in Pulp Fictions.
Heroin has been given to unsuccessful Methadone patients in the UK for years now.  It is now being used in Canada as well, but has started only recently. In Western Canada(esp. Vancouver) a pharmacist gives you your ampoule of Heroin and a clean injection kit.  You walk to an open  supervised injection booth.  While you "fix" a Nurse circulates ensuring that in case someone has issues, there is help and Narcan(drug=naloxone, the antidote(opioid receptor antagonist) is readily available. Narcan reverses the effects of opiates and can stop an overdose in its tracks.

The clinic I was at had protesters sporadically, the local community actually actively discouraged them in their own South London straight to the point way...

Another branch we had was in East London and they had the same group twice a week. It is worth noting that on more than one occasion we had protesters who found themselves in a difficult situation who then became clients which further cemented my belief that nobody knows how they will feel til they are in the position.

We had no male nurses, we had male and female surgeons, but due to the traumatic circumstances a lot of clients found themselves in to have to be doing something so very difficult it was probably for the best. It was certainly never just for convenience for the vast majority, we had many rape victims, people from countries where they would be killed by the state or by family for being found to be pregnant, prisoners, victims of domestic abuse, women who were illiterate and had to come over from Ireland in secret. The nicest and loveliest male nurse would probably still engender panic in some of the ladies we had in.
There certainly are some interesting considerations that have to be taken when dealing with humans.
I enjoyed the "protest or turned client" story.

That is good news, I'm really liking all the front line unofficial trials that are ongoing.  This one might prevent transmission which will help in the long run.  If we can get drugs like this to prevent healthcare worker infections as well as ones to help get workers back to work after infection, the better the public will be.

IIRC, last Friday Israel sent the US 7 million doses of one of the drugs that speeds recovery. Novartis seems to ring a bell.

Good show MV Brig and Pate.

I just wanted to mention that you CAN safely help out neighbours with groceries etc. Maintain physical distance by dropping groceries off at the door.  So long as proper hand hygiene is used by all involved.  SARS/CoV-2 cannot penetrate intact skin ONLY mucous membranes (eyes, nose, mouth, throat, lungs). The primary transmission route is via droplets from sneezing/coughing, being inhaled.

Brig, you are taking extra risk by not accepting help.  That risk isn't merely to yourself only, it's to the five healthcare workers that will be with you in the room attempting to intubate you to get you on a respirator. Each of those 5 people require an N-95 or better mask as intubation can create aerosols which can cause the virus to spread beyond  1 meter(3 feet).
You have 2 options, be part of the problem or the solution. There can be only one.

Best wishes Brig.

I’m just thankful to have a flipping job at this point.

Like I get the virus is serious for those who are at risk, but if you are not at risk it is an acceptable danger level to accept to have ordinary life. The fact is Coronavirus has been here all friggin winter that’s is why there was in increase in flu deaths this year, they weren’t testing for it. A lot of people have/had the virus and simply don’t have symptoms or recover without being diagnosed. The fatality level is grossly over inflated for young healthy people.

Rest assured the government will not let a good crisis go to waste their will be some sort of power grab and the money they are passing out is built to make you OK with it.

Also I’d like to point out it is in the media best interest to stoke the fear. Having people locked up in their homes as a captive audience is good for $$$. Also, if the reporters were losing their jobs and being asked to take pay cuts their tune of LOCK DOWN the country until next year would change, I promise you that.
It doesnt matter who is at risk to die, it's the healthy unaffected people that are going provide opportunity to kill others. anyone and everyone can be a carrier.  Attitudes like yours will kill many people.

I do agree with you that the gov. never lets a good tragedy go to waste.

I’m not a nurse, but I am curious as to why you think that :)
It was a comment made by Azzerae who was trying to get under your skin about formerly working at an abortion clinic, that led me to believe that you MAY be a nurse. I earned my nursing degree just under a decade ago in my early 30's. I was studying podiatry in downtown Toronto before and during the 2003 global epidemic of SARS/CoV, the virus which caused SARS which killed 42 of the 250 Canadians it infected, including 2 healthcare workers.  That was/is nothing like SARS/CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

I was literally the last person that my local Police Department ran a Police Check AND Vulnerable Sector Search(VSS). The VSS is an extra layer of screening that goes by birthdate and fingerprints, as names can be changed, to ensure that the applicant isn't a convicted pedophile or other similar. Because they were closed to the public, I was granted special access by the Chief.(talk about getting the stink'eye from a bunch of cops-I got a whole lot of, what the fuck is this guy doing in here?)  It was all free of charge, which was odd.  At least now I can legally take up a spot as hospital staff goes down sick, wherever that hospital may be.

Weird. Diversity is a grand thing. We don't have security guards in liquor stores. Yet. Larger businesses except "shrinkage" and also don't want liability of a bad shooting etc. Insured also against losses. But smaller places, like convenience stores, people are armed. At least one case I recall somewhat recently in which the owner/operator shot a kid trying to steal a 12 pack. A bit of an over reaction. But another case where employee was canned for catching a thief physically which I think was also wrong. Again business afraid of lawsuits or precedent for other employees....
Up here ALL liquor is sold via government run stores under the Liquor Control Board of Ontario(LCBO) or "lick-boe".

We Ontarians just got beer in the Walmarts and other stores not long ago.

I agree with your take on the scenarios you presented.

That could be the reasoning and they wouldn't want calls on a supposedly stressed medical system.  Don't need Jojo's elaboration.

It certainly wouldn't because many of the hardcore advanced alcoholics are politicians- or that the Alcohol Beveridge industry, especially the wholesale and distribution level, has good lobbyists and very politically connected families. Surely a concern for the people in general!
At the liquor store up here, there is armed guards at the door.  They ask you questions about travel, look for signs inquire about symptoms. And once a person comes through the exit, they let another inside.
