You said more about yourself in that one sentence than anyone ever could with alleged 'passive aggressive' input. I'm neither passive nor aggressive; I do admit to asking awkward questions though.

Another avoidable death in Ohio..four year old shot himself with his fathers weapon that had been left on the car seat--I thought at first this was made up. Tragically (and I am sincere in this because I have a son) it isn't, and I cannot imagine the grief; all because of stupidity (cos guns don't kill people, we've established that-he'd just as soon as killed himself with a frying pan the same day) . How many more incidents before it's too many? Still cancelled out now? Or still being perverse?

So should we trade gun violence for knife violence and bar brawls?  For every one of your stupid examples I can bring up 2 or 3 that support the opposite position.  Do I believe that hundreds of millions should be punished for the faults of a few? Absolutely not. If you do, that's your right and I celebrate it.  You have the right to feel that way and my respect of you exercising that right 8)

Buck up, grow a pair, and get in touch with natural selection (He left a gun on the front seat with his 4 year old.,...did you even read what you wrote?).  Modern medicine has to have an offset somewhere; we can't have our cake and eat it too.

I remember Art saying Noory 'gets it' as in Noory getting the paranormal subject matter of c2c. In the beginning, I think Noory did until he began believing the smoke blown up his ass that he was somehow responsible for c2c's success, rather than having the great good fortune of a show like that falling into his lap. He was the Nighthawk on a moderately successful overnight show and maybe that's what caught PremRat's eye, but in the end he fell into the trap Art always avoided of moving to LA and becoming a company man, and a laughingstock along the way because he sold himself, Art's vision and the show out. And now he's just a lazy sod, coasting along on the ghost of what the show was, making it clear every night that he isn't prepared, doesn't give a shit and will remain or so he thinks, until he drops, because he's a company man.

Agree except for that.  Noory isn't stupid enough to believe that he "created" C2C's success.  He knows where the show came from.  I think it maybe more that he's high on the fact that he's managed to keep it afloat and they haven't brought in Mike Seigel to replace him.

I suppose in a perverse way that cancels out the incidents of 'accidental' ND's and campus shootings. Oh, hang on, no it doesn't.

Yes.  Actually, it totally does. 100%.

Your response is much more passive aggressive than York's.

I am so sick of the aggression is "ok" argument. Self defense is not aggression. The minute defense becomes aggressive it becomes illegal. Don't believe me? use your weapon outside of defense and see where your ass lands.

Secondly we have a social contract that is specifically in place to avoid aggression. Otherwise society would always be the biggest guy with the biggest club would rule and others would live in fear.

There is something pathologically wrong believing aggression is an appropriate response in any civil setting. Including sports but that is another discussion.

Not really.  Yes, it's a more "direct/obvious" passive aggressive response, but doesn't that in fact make it less passive aggressive than his responses?

The fact is, aggression IS okay.  Like firearms, it's how you handle aggression, yours and others, that makes the difference.  Fuck all this wimpy faggy shit and attitude that's in vogue now.  It's retarded, unless your aim is to be a fucking consumption media junkie drone.  And I'm not talking about homosexuals or the mentally handicapped here.

The point being aggression isn't always the way forward.

But passive-aggression is, right?

I was joking... nothing more. I suppose a jab at those that think more guns is the reason for lower crime as opposed to more police.

I can never fucking tell with you, and I put 50% of the blame squarely on your AV.  It's absolutely perfect.

While I agree that most gun owners are responsible, I am not sure that I agree that that means the status quo is fine (if that's the point you are trying to make).  Most drivers are responsible, but we make them obtain a license, insurance, etc.  But when similar restrictions are suggested for guns, a lot of those same responsible gun owners freak out.  You are a gun owner, Onan, and based on your posts a person I would gladly describe as the very definition of reasonable.  Would you object to having to be licensed to own guns and ammo?

In general, cars are meant to be used on public roadways, so interaction with others is inherent in their use.  Guns, not so much.

All good points, Onan.  But surely it is reasonable to limit access to certain types of "arms", isn't it? Assault rifles, .50 caliber sniper rifles, sub macine guns, RPGs?  Tanks, thermonuclear devices?  I know, hyperbole again , but some line must be drawn somewhere between personal freedom and anarchy.

A) Access to those items is limietd,

and

B)  Who do you REALLY trust to that for you?  You really trust those people?

More guns in the home would stem the violence. ::)

I was just pointing out the absolute uselessness of that study, of which no mention of guns was made.  Was that study about gun violence, or violence in general?  It's still too simplistic to me.  Children and time are both finite variables; it's like me saying "studies show that swimming MAY reduce the urge to do gardening related tasks, because the more time members of my family spend swimming, the less time members of my family spend weeding and pruning."  One is not actually related to the other in any way, other than that participation in both cost time, of which I'm allotted a finite amount per day, and membership in my family, of which there is a finite amount at any one time.  We can't garden and swim at the same time, just like we can't play video games and get into a bar brawl at the same time.

I get that it's limiting opportunity for violence, but so does virtually every other activity that isn't violence.  If anything, what this study tells me is that less actual human interaction may lead to less violence.

I thought I'd post a little supporting evidence for a claim I made a post or two above:

I found a very interesting article from Science Daily which suggests that in fact, as the sales of violent video games have increased, the violent crime, especially among youth, has declined. I will leave the link to the article below, but here is an excerpt:

"However, Kierkegaard explains, there is no obvious link between real-world violence statistics and the advent of video games. If anything, the effect seems to be the exact opposite and one might argue that video game usage has reduced real violence. Despite several high profile incidents in US academic institutions, "Violent crime, particularly among the young, has decreased dramatically since the early 1990s," says Kierkegaard, "while video games have steadily increased in popularity and use. For example, in 2005, there were 1,360,088 violent crimes reported in the USA compared with 1,423,677 the year before. "With millions of sales of violent games, the world should be seeing an epidemic of violence," he says, "Instead, violence has declined."

Reference: Science Daily (2008)

The correlation is a little sketchy.  If more kids are inside spending more time playing more video games, then it's pretty obvious that less kids spending less time outside will be involved in less violent crimes.  The rate of violence in kids HAS increased, but now it's directed towards bedroom furniture, Hot Pockets, and 360/PS3 controllers.  And Mom and Dad.

Michael Douglas. Although "annoy" doesn't perfectly capture it, although this story does annoy me greatly about this incredibly vain, egocentric prick. Remember, this crap is from the man who got caught by the woman who gets about $15-million per movie (about $14-million more than he does these days), while he was screwing yet another housemaid or cook. So he weasels with of the "I love sex so much I must be a sex addict!" dodge.

He must be feeling a little frisky again, because he's back with this laughable claim - "I had so much sex I caught cancer" -

Yep.  Just seeing his face on the Liberace posters/pics gets me sour.

I watched this whole season of All star celebrity Apprentice. Penn lost because he did not believe in God. Love Penn & Teller.

Is that why Penn lost?  I thought it was because Trump was attempting to pander to a Republican sector that doesn't love him.

I think Subway has gone down hill dramatically.  I recall their sandwiches as being more generously stacked some years ago.  Now, you get three paper-thin sheets of meat-like material, a bit of bland cheese, and whatever else you want on it.  Blech....

For sure. Double meat is $3 bucks, even on a $5 footlong.  It started going downhill after they changed the way they cut their buns.  As for burgers, everybody do yourself a favour and go buy a decently priced meat grinder.  It feels so much better knowing exactly what your ground meat is made of.

And to Unquenchable - Don't worry about the KFC; it has gotten worse.  I think it all went further south when they stopped using whatever ate your boot sole.

I love Edward Fox is everything. It's hard to believe he's now well into 70's. Fantastic caper flick, in which Fox has a minor but great role, is Sexy Beast, starring Ben Kingsley, Ray Winstone and Ian McShane. Almost every one of the characters in it scared the crap out of me. Ben Kingsley's psycho turn will have you gripping your chair arms. But Fox plays this blueblood banker who meets this master villain Ian McShane at some uptown orgy. McShane, who plays his bad guy with that hooded eyelid look that makes me shiver, sees Fox at the bar and simply says "Men...or Women?", and the effete-looking Fox says "Oh, definitely". So McShane takes him up on it. GAAAAACK! But then Fox turns the crooks on to a huge bank takedown. And of course he pays for it in the end. But a fantastic frightening movie that shows you that bad guys are called bad guys for a good reason.

Seen it. Great understated and under-the-radar gangster flick.  Looking forward to seeing 44 Inch Chest in the near future.

And yeah, Fox is was of "those guys" for me as well.

Yep, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot has the big gun...and Jeff Bridges in drag looking disturbingly like one of the older sisters of a kid I hung around with in 1985.
You caught me. Try to be subtle once...and still busted. And I also am a fan of Day of the Jackal, and by today's standard, I can see how it would be perceived as a tad tedious. Since I find that subject and era fascinating, I could watch a movie of people reciting Forsyth's book backwards and still be enthralled. The 1997 bastardization remake is why I pray to whatever God that will listen for a plague to hit Hollywood.

>:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

If I had one issue with the original is that I like a little more character development (kind of the majority of the "dryness", and the editing - look at the scene where Fox leaves the woman's estate.  However, you never know exactly what print you are getting to see with NetFlix.  As far as pacing, well, have you ever tried to explain to someone under 30, who isn't a film or genre buff, why King Rat is an awesome film?

Heh heh - Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, - "Eastwood can(n)on". He's sly tonight folks!
I suppose it's a sign of my age, but it's the "dryness" of Jackal that I love. The unhurried building toward a climax. I appreciate that so much more than these damn 4-shots-per-second visual overloads that pass for movies. Look how the scenes just slowly unfold instead of being thrown at us. I love that movie, the moreso because of the meth-freak attention span which movies are aimed at today.

Hey, don't get me wrong - I agree with your POV.  I was gonna say that the film views just like the book reads, but I didn't want to come off like some kind of art snob/arts knob.  There is a definite lack of "Cusslerism" in the film (That's good, right?  8) ).  Edward Fox was awesome.

Cliff Gorman was great at playing sleazy Noo Yawkers.

Watched the final hour of one of my long time favorites, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, after the Blackhawks-Red Wings went final. Very underappreciated in the Eastwood canon.

I always confuse the endings of that and The Gauntlet; TAL is the one with the big gun, right?  And TG is the Bus?

Seriously, you really think this could have happened? And you don't immediately distrust the source of the report?

Ordinarily someone who comes in for criticism from the Southern Poverty Law Center these days should get a second look on the theory they're actually good guys.*  But just looking at the basic data surrounding the submission without going into the information alleged in the video pretty much disqualifies it. First, it was submitted to YouTube on May 11th. That's more than two weeks. Who knows when the blast was supposed to have occurred, but the vid we've had for two weeks. And in that more than two weeks there has been nothing from anyone else on a nuclear blast -
A nuclear blast which is intentional -
A nuclear blast which is an act of war -
A nuclear blast which is an act of war against Syria -
A nuclear blast which is an act of war against Syria, set off "near Damascus" -
A nuclear blast which is an act of war against Syria, set off "near Damascus", by, presumably, Israel -
And no one else reports this?!

No network news picks up the guaranteed Pulitzer story, perhaps the story of the decade, the story of the century? Not even any cable news? Not even any wildcat outfit - well other than a Mein Kampfer like Gordon Duff? Every news outfit has at least a couple of people who are at least as credentialed as Gordon Duff in the areas of foreign relations, intelligence, satellite intel and imagery, radiation and blast detection from space and/or from earth, war, combat, nuclear weapons, modern air war, ballistic missilery, the Middle East, Israel and so on. And these hundreds or thousands of experts working for or associated with dozens of news agencies say nothing to anyone?

And then there are the scientists who aren't associated with any news outfit, whether astronomers, astrophysicists, nuclear physicists or even SETI scientists who are "watching the skies" around the clock, and not one of those thousands notice or say a thing?

And then there's the military. Not just the militaries of Syria, Iran, Jordan, Israel or the US, but any of a couple of dozen or maybe 50 around the world which could detect a nuclear blast - and not a single drinker among the thousands of personnel who would have known and talked? Not a single one with a buddy in the news biz?

Even someone subscribing to the Hitlerian beliefs (as apparently Gordon Duff does) that "the Jews run the world" and control the media and the news, can truly believe a bunch of filthy untermenschen are so powerful as to be able to completely silence tens of thousands of persons who were aware of a nuclear blast. There's simply no way that independent, credible, confirming word of such a momentous event could be suppressed.

Then there's Gordon Duff and "Veterans Today". Look, long story short, this outfit is followed and believed by the people who brought us "Stormfront".  They're  anti-Semitic, Holocaust apologists, and they push the vile lie that 9/11 was a Zionist plot.

Is there really any need to go on?

*The SPLC at one time was a courageous outpost of justice. But for the last couple of decades the SPLC more and more has been a disappointment, much closer to a clone of Michael Moore than an NGO dedicated to hurling truth into the very teeth. And the fact that the SPLC has never had its tax exempt status investigated by Obama's IRS pretty much seals the deal.

So what is Al Jazeera saying about this?  ;D ;D ;D

Addendum - I have been able to listen to it by getting on the FA stream site, then clicking on the Winamp icon. It downloads a small ( 4 K ) program that I have to use in Winamp to listen to the show. But it is working. That's strange, I've never had to do that before. I could just get on the site and it would play automatically in Firefox. Anyway, it is working, it just working through Winamp now.

Same issue, but I don't have a fix yet.

Oh, and speaking of unattractive topless women, I confess I found the Kathy Bates nude plop into the hot tub in About Schmidt, I dunno, uplifting or something. I guess because of its sheer exuberance and courage and lack of giving a damn. Confidence and throwing caution to the wind can be sexy even in ahem non-traditionally attractive body types. But not the angry tirades which I associate with lesbian nudity. Like the "Our bodies belong to us and don't you ever forget it, you killer rapists!" stuff. Don't worry, girls.

I know of what you speak.  And let's just leave it at that.   As for the last bit, it's probably why I never felt sexually attracted to Garofalo.  I felt like I was supposed to, due to the first part of your post, but just couldn't, because of the last part. Kind of disappointing/unnerving.

I accept full responsibility for any Billy Joel inspired rants. In the spring/summer 1980, I was a kindergarten aged victim of bad taste. Ya see, my parents awful choices in record buying lead to Billy Joel's Glass Houses being a regular on the turntable. I still get chills(of the douche variety) and fits of dyspepsia when I hear one note of "It's Still Rock and Roll To Me" or "Don't Ask Me Why"...just thinking about it triggers PTSD. Just horrible.

For sheer pointless entertainment, Quayle has got to be the greatest guest ever.  It's like a geyser of never-ending mind-numbing "facts".  He gets deeper and deeper as the years go by.

Steve Quayle is deep.  Maybe it IS more than entertainment.
