Paranormal seems limited as we cover more than that, Fringe seems to cover a wide variety of topics mainstream seems to turn a blind eye to without pigeon holing the show to a percieved or limited niche.

Thoughts?

Now that you have elaborated on your reasoning, I can see your point that using the word paranormal is too limited.
In that not every topic can fall under the paranormal label - main stream science, true crime, extraordinary events (the journey of climbing Mount Everest), aspects of religion.

When the word 'fringe' is used to describe to the audience the overview of what to expect on this radio show, to me, it conjures up thoughts that the subject/guest is automatically marginalized and lacks any importance or credibility. So we, the listeners, should just listen for pure entertainment only. No need for discernment, critical thought or the expectation of perhaps learning something on a particular subject because it has already been established that this radio show is 'fringe talk radio'.

With that being said, I'm not up in arms or going to hold any public march against the use of the word fringe ;D
It was just an opinion based on the connotation I personally associated with that word.

Art left stuff open-ended, trusting people to draw their own conclusions, and I guess that's what I'm used to.  I think you were fine last night with Atwater right up until the little sermonette at the end after she hung up.  Getting her out of her prepared patter, making her think on the air, highlighting gaps in her work -- all part of a good interview.  If you read back, people could tell you weren't totally buying it and that she was out of her comfort zone -- don't worry, we get it.  But a two-minute facile critique citing science of all things was insufficient to dismiss the two hours we just heard, some of which was fascinating, let alone her life's work.

So the question is, for a fringe style show, would you rather the host challenge the guests with respect or just allow the story, inaccuracies and contradiction just slide?

Should the show be total escapism or entertainment with a foot still grounded in skepticism?

Just asking for a friend. ;)

DS

While it is nice to see the humility and openness for a change in interview style, I like you just the way you are
Be yourself and react to the situation and circumstance. If you smell bullshit then poke and prod a little, with respect, to flush out the information or verify the guest's view points.

I am a bit perplexed by the recent change to use the 'best in fringe talk radio' tagline. I find the word a bit denigrating towards the subjects and guests, even if they are by definition 'fringe'.
But it just might be my perceived connotation of the word.

Lasha really wants to moderate the info Heather and her facebook followers get to read.
It is looking more like a cult every day. Either you think and behave like they do or they'll put you on a list  ;D
What a fucking controlling bitch she is  :D

I'm looking forward to P. M. H. Atwater tonight.
She's a rare gem and a solid researcher. I like the cut of her jib.
She's always been able to hold my attention.

The internet or satellite radio is not subject to the same language rules as broadcast radio. A 'dump' button or 7 second delay is not needed.

Some folks said there is one radio station who carries her show, KCAA.
Also she follows Art's rules. No swearing.

But she's using the broken dump button as a convenient excuse for the network to iron out their issues.

Heather not being able to put together a show tonight, in light of a damn malfunctioning dump button, just exemplifies how inept her 'team' and herself are.

What a lame excuse to use.

So is this thread about Heather or about Schrader's MITD show?  I don't like trimming weeds.  It should be one or the other.  Just my preference of course.  Can we just have a 'Heather Wade Sucks! - The Definitive Compendium' thread?  She seems deserving.  I'm sure MV could make it happen in a blink of an eye.  He has skills.   ;)

Cheers all!  :D

Speaking of people that want to marry into American citizenship. I knew a guy (not fat or repellent looking and in his early 30's, but wasn't rich)who got married to a cute Laotian, she really was cute as a button. They met and lived in Key West. I'm not sure how close you can be when you can't understand each other's language. Anyway, she wanted to move to New York City so they moved. She learned English and left him within a year. I know this because I saw him later when he moved back to Key West, single again.

Well at least she assimilated  :P
Cute as a button? Hmmm, do you have her number perchance?  ;D

Run Carl! Run!

The fact that Carl, Airyn's brother-in-law, is designing Heather's website leads me to suspect that Heather does have Airyn's 'blessing' to continue Art's #Legacy.
I could be wrong though. But it might help her out in any legal issues that may arise.

Depending on which, thanks or bite me.

It was a serious compliment ever so slightly intermixed with my previous comment about Heather and her skills at making folks over the phone feel special.
But I get it. It is hard to discern a person's intent in a message without all the in real life cues.

You're welcome.
