A boy who vanished in 2007 aged five has turned up again after reportedly shooting the ‘abusive’ dad who abducted him dead. Anthony Templet, who is now 17, disappeared without trace with his dad Burt from their home in Houston, Texas 12 years ago. Cops in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, finally tracked them down after Anthony shot Burt dead earlier this month. The teen has been now charged with his dad’s manslaughter â€" but his sister Natasha, who has not seen Anthony since he vanished â€" insists he acted in self-defense.

He has been secluded and abused all these years by his own father. ‘My brave brother had to defend himself for the last time against that evil man.’

Anthony himself told police that he’d shot Burt after the older man got drunk and started to fight him. He grabbed two handguns, in case one failed to fire, then shot him three times, before dialing 911. Burt Templet died from his injuries days later. The alleged abusive dad was charged with assault three times between 2001 and 2002, with two of those cases dismissed by a judge. His wife filed for a protective order shortly before he vanished in his red Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, taking Anthony with him

A woman whose unborn baby was killed in a 2018 Pleasant Grove shooting has now been indicted in the death.

Marshae Jones, a 27-year-old Birmingham woman, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury on a manslaughter charge. She was taken into custody on Wednesday.

Though Jones didn’t fire the shots that killed her unborn baby girl, authorities say she initiated the dispute that led to the gunfire. Police initially charged 23-year-old Ebony Jemison with manslaughter, but the charge against Jemison was dismissed after the grand jury failed to indict her.
The shooting happened about noon on Dec. 4, 2018, outside Dollar General on Park Road. Officers were dispatched to the scene on a report of someone shot but arrived to find the shooting victim â€" later identified as Jones - had been picked up and driven to Fairfield. Police and paramedics then found the Jones at a Fairfield convenience store.

Jones was taken from Fairfield to UAB Hospital. She was five months pregnant and was shot in the stomach. The unborn baby did not survive the shooting.

“The investigation showed that the only true victim in this was the unborn baby,’’ Pleasant Grove police Lt. Danny Reid said at the time of the shooting. “It was the mother of the child who initiated and continued the fight which resulted in the death of her own unborn baby.”
Reid said the fight stemmed over the unborn baby’s father. The investigation showed, he said, that it was Jones who initiated and pressed the fight, which ultimately caused Jemison to defend herself and unfortunately caused the death of the baby.

"Let’s not lose sight that the unborn baby is the victim here,’’ Reid said. “She had no choice in being brought unnecessarily into a fight where she was relying on her mother for protection."

The 5-month fetus was "dependent on its mother to try to keep it from harm, and she shouldn’t seek out unnecessary physical altercations,” Reid added.

Jones will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail where she will be held on $50,000 bond.
The long arms of the law starting to look like octopus arms.

https://truenoirstories.wordpress.com/2017/03/28/missy-bevers/

" At 3:50 AM on Monday, April 18, 2016, surveillance footage captured an unknown individual breaking into the Creekside Church of Christ in Midlothian, Texas, and creeping through the closed building.

Dressed in head-to-toe, faux SWAT gear, the supposed burglar proceeded to wander throughout the halls. He or she carried a hammer in their left hand. The unknown individual “clad in tactical gear, wearing a black helmet, and vest with ‘POLICE’ on it” appeared in eerie contrast to the humble community church surroundings.

Walking through the empty church in a disturbingly-casual way, the unidentified person opened doors, checked locks, and nonchalantly broke the occasional window. Authorities estimate that this person is between 5’2″ and 5’7″ tall, but the intruder’s identity, and even gender, is hopelessly obscured.

Surveillance video from that morning also shows 45-year-old, fitness instructor and mother of three, Terri “Missy” Bevers, arriving at and entering the church around 4:20 AM. Missy had arrived early to set-up for a 5:00 AM exercise class which she instructed. In the video, the burglar is seen shortly before Missy arrives, but then disappears off-screen. However, Missy and the masked individual will, unfortunately, cross paths that morning in the darkened church.

At 5:06 AM, one of Missy’s students frantically called 911 after discovering that she had been brutally attack. Described as unresponsive and having “puncture wounds to her head and chest,” the beautiful fitness coach had been bludgeoned to death.

Authorities soon released references to “ongoing financial and marital struggle” within the Bevers household. Search warrants revealed police allegations of “flirtatious and familiar” messages sent between Missy and an unnamed individual.

Public opinion focused harshly upon Missy’s husband and his family. However, after almost a year of investigation, no arrests have been made. Police have emphasized that Missy’s family is not a “focus of the investigation,” and that they are now examining her murder as “an untargeted type of hit.”
The information released to the public has ultimately served to create more questions than answers. Why was the assailant dressed in POLICE tactical gear? Why such a specific, all-out disguise for a 3 AM prowler? Was he or she aware of the surveillance cameras? Was he or she there to kill Missy? And, what does the video show about the unknown assailant?

Most importantly, WHO murdered Missy Bevers and why? Did the murderer break-in with the intention of harming Missy specifically? Or were they just there to burgle the church? Did the killer have an intimate knowledge of Missy’s schedule? Could social media have provided important details to the murderer?

However, police, and the general community at large, have all also made particular note of the fact that the assailant displays a “distinctive walk.” In one released affidavit, police even described the gait as “caused by an injury to his or her right leg or foot.” Some observers have theorized that the individual was wearing boots intentionally sized “too big, as they look odd.”

The unidentified person is first shown walking out into a dim hallway. The intruder slowly walks further out of the camera’s view, dragging their right hand (or something in their right hand) down the wall. It is noteworthy that the individual does not seem to spend any significant amount of time checking or listening for potential employees or other people.

The camera then cuts to another view where the masked individual is shown confidently opening a door. He or she steps behind the door, disappears, and then returns to view after a bit. At this point, something, resembling either a hammer or a mallet, can be more clearly seen in the individual’s right hand. The person then attempts to open a different, locked door. He or she coolly proceeds to focus on working the door open, using tools produced from their tactical gear. After a couple unsuccessful attempts, the individual reorganizes items in their tactical wear (taking their sweet time in doing so), and then calmly walks off.

Now, observably holding the hammer/mallet in their left hand, the masked assailant opens the lower, and then upper, portions of a set of dutch doors, leaving them widely spread. He or she steps inside the door frame for a split moment, and then, immediately resumes walking down the hall. After a bit, the assailant turns back towards the camera and enters a recessed area. Video then shows the individual nonchalantly swinging the hammer/mallet a few times at something, presumably a door or window off-screen.

Police also released parking lot footage “from SWFA Outdoors… a couple of hours before Missy Bevers’ murder.” The video shows a light-colored Nissan Altima circling the lot and, at one point, turning its headlights off and on. Authorities determined after investigation that, though the intruder was initially suspected of being a petty thief, “nothing from the church appears missing.” The suspect seems to have utilized “a pry bar to smash a window and enter through a side door.”Initially, Missy’s husband, Brandon Bevers, did not “believe his wife knew her killer.” However, after further investigation, by May 2016, Brandon was adamant that Missy’s death was not the result of crossing paths with a random burglar.

http://charleyproject.org/case/heather-danyelle-teague

Teague was sunbathing at Newburgh Beach in Henderson County, Kentucky on August 26, 1995. A witness was observing the beach area through a telescope from across the Ohio River at approximately 12:45 p.m. The witness told authorities that he saw a Caucasian man approach Teague at that time.

The abductor allegedly grabbed Teague by the hair and dragged her into the woods off of Newburgh Beach at gunpoint. The abductor was approximately 6'0 and weighed 210 to 230 pounds. He had brown hair and a bushy brown beard. He was wearing jeans and did not have shirt on. He was also reported to be wearing a wig and a mosquito net at the time he abducted Teague.

Authorities searched the Newburgh Beach area later in the day and discovered part of Teague's bathing suit near the alleged abduction site. Additional evidence was also located, but nothing investigators found could lead them to Teague's whereabouts. She has never been heard from again.

One night in 1979 Barre Kallan Monigold went outside to turn his car light off and never returned."Monigold was last seen at a friend's apartment complex in the 3900 block of Old Bullard Road in Tyler, Texas on June 17, 1979. He had been on a date that night and he and his date had gone to his friend's second-floor apartment and fallen asleep on the floor.

Between 1:00 and 1:30 a.m., Monigold's friend woke him up to tell him that the dome light in his car, a blue 1978 Monte Carlo, was on. Monigold went outside to turn the light off and never returned. While he was gone, his friend was in the kitchen, which overlooked the parking lot; the car was thirty to forty feet away.

Monigold's friend didn't hear any unusual noises. After about five minutes he went outside and called for Monigold, but Monigold was gone. The Monte Carlo's driver's side door was found unlocked and there were no indications of a struggle.

Monigold left all his clothing and personal belongings behind, and he also left money in his bank account. He worked as a car salesman at King Chevrolet at the time of his disappearance. He had studied karate and could have defended himself if attacked.

After his disappearance there were persistent rumors that he had been murdered, and another story that he had fled to Jamaica after a tipster offered up Monigold's phone number there, but little evidence is available in his case. Some individuals claimed to have witnessed Barre being forced into another vehicle although these claims were never proven. A big theory was that Barre was killed by a jealous ex-boyfriend. The girl he was dating had just ended a relationship that was described as volatile. A different man later confessed to the murder although it turned out to be false. It remains unsolved.

https://counteverymystery.blogspot.com/2018/01/the-murder-of-terry-sutter.html

On the day of September 1st, 1973 15 year old Terry Sutter spent the day mowing the lawns. His mother had forgotten to pick him up, so he had walked home. He had wanted to spend that night at the movies and bowling alley with his friends. So his mother brought him to town, and dropped him off in Frankfort, Michigan. He was to stay with his Grandmother and his curfew was at 11 pm.

His parent's were shocked to hear that Terry didn't stay the night let alone arrive at his grandmothers house. He wasn't a difficult type of kid. He was the type who understood curfews and never broke them. This worried his family and they went out to search for him. The police did not take the family seriously as they believed he was hiding out so he didn't have to go to school.

That afternoon though Terry's body was found on the beach of Lake Michigan by a tourist. It was initially believed he had maybe died from a fall from a cliff and into Lake Michigan. It was found that his lungs were not filled with water, but instead with sand. Pointing towards being murdered. It's possible that his face was held down in sand and he suffocated to death. His neck and head were covered in bruises and his eyes were filled with sand.

Somebody then began to vandalize the poor 15 year olds grave. His head stone would get vandalized, flower pots put there for flowers were broken and even the bush planted there by an older sister was ripped out. Eventually it was decided Terry would lie in an unmarked grave as they removed the head stone.
You'd think they'd install a hidden camera or night watch, and identify the vandal so they could process the vandal as a suspect.

At the age of thirteen, Cory Roberts brutally beat and raped a 3-year-old girl. While in juvenile facility, he raped two of his cellmates. He was paroled in 2001, and went on to molest an underage boy weeks later. Roberts was re-arrested and sentenced to life, but was once again paroled in 2014.

For 11 years, Cory E. Roberts was housed at the state’s center for sexually violent predators and for 11 years he stalled efforts to have him committed there.

Last month he won the argument and on Monday was released into Tacoma after two experts decided he did not meet the criteria for being committed at the Special Commitment Center on McNeil Island.

“What stunned me about this particular defendant’s release was not only his horrific history, but his unwillingness to pursue treatment while at McNeil Island,” Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said.

The 37-year-old’s convictions include sexually and physically assaulting a 3-year-old girl in 1990 when he was 13 and living in Benton County. Roberts had responded to a babysitting ad and was supposed to be caring for the toddler.
The child suffered permanent brain damage and paralysis as well as blindness in one eye and loss of sight in the other, her mother, Kelly McGinnis, told KIRO-TV.

“He’s a monster,” McGinnis said.

Her daughter regularly asks if Roberts is in jail, said McGinnis, who told KIRO she’ll keep telling her he is. The brain injury from the attack left her daughter with the mental ability of a 10-year-old, and learning about the release would be too much for her, McGinnis said.

In 1982, two women disappear together in South Lake Tahoe, CA. Five and six months later, their bodies are discoveredâ€"but it seems they had died only weeks earlier. What happened to Julie Schossow and Marilyn Putt?
https://www.eldoradocoldcase.com/victim/index.html?NewsID=45648

The Disappearance

Julie Schossow, 25, and Marilyn Putt, 27, were close friends. They had both worked as blackjack dealers at the Harrah's Casino in South Lake Tahoe, on the border of Nevada and California, since May 1980. Marilyn had a 5-year-old son, Jason, and they had lived in a rented house at 725 Los Angeles Avenue since October 1981. The Putts shared the house with a roommate, Colleen Gore, who often helped take care of Jason. Schossow was in between apartments and temporarily living in the home as well. Neighbors recalled there were often many cars at the house, although there weren’t wild or noisy parties there. Jason was often seen playing in the snow with other neighborhood children.

On January 12, 1982, Schossow and Putt had both worked at Harrah’s and then returned home after their shift. What is known about the intervening hours seems to come largely from their roommate, Colleen Gore. Schossow and Putt told Gore they were going “to party,” and at approximately 1 AM, a car horn sounded outside of the house and the women left.

Both victims were seen drinking together at the Rendezvous Bar inside Harrah’s and leaving a bar with some men that evening, however I do not know if this happened before they returned home or after they went out again to party. Colleen told police that sometime during the night, Schossow came back to pick up her car. Putt called 11 hours later (unclear if this is at noon on January 13, or 11 hours after Schossow returned for the car) and said they had “met a couple of rich guys” and were headed to Sacramento or San Francisco. Putt asked Gore to babysit her son.

Gore did not report the women missing for four days. This would have been approximately January 17.

On February 2, police found Schossow’s brown Honda in the Harrah’s parking lot, covered in snow and with flat tires. Police said this indicated the car had been there since the day the women went missing, January 13. (What is mystifying is why the police knew the women were missing since January 17, knew Schossow’s car was missing, and knew both women worked at Harrah’sâ€"yet apparently didn’t check that parking lot until February 2.)

Note this interesting passage in an article from February 18, 1982, in the Reno Gazette-Journal: “The neighbors and some of the women’s co-workers from Harrah’s are reluctant to talk about Putt and Schossow. One Los Angeles Avenue woman said she was worried about retribution from the ‘two men the girls were with that night,’ and the Harrah’s workers have been ordered by casino officials not to talk about the missing dealers.”

Discovery of the Bodies

On June 6, 1982, almost six months later, the body of Marilyn Putt was discovered in the South Fork of the American River, one mile west of an area known as Chili Bar off of Highway 193. Her body was nude and had been weighted down with chains and binding material and the cause of death appears to be ligature strangulation, with the time of death being estimated at 6-8 weeks prior to her body being found.

One month later, on July 9, 1982, the body of Julie Schossow was discovered also in the South Fork of the American River, approximately 150 yards from where Marilyn Putt's body had been discovered. She had a cord tightly wrapped around her neck two times and the coroner could not rule out the fact that she may have been bound together with Marilyn Putt. The cause of death appears to be ligature strangulation, with the time of death being estimated at 6-8 weeks prior to her body being found.

Given the discrepancy between the time the women went missing and the estimated time of death, it is believed that the women were held captive for approximately three months, believed to be somewhere in between South Lake Tahoe and Placerville.

Other events or potential leads

*Notably, another woman, Debney Lynn Lobanoff, 28, went missing not long before these women in December 1981. Her nude body was found floating in the Slab Creek Reservoir on July 3, 1982, in between the discoveries of Putt’s and Schossow’s bodies and approximately 7.5 miles upstream. According to her husband, Debney left with two “biker-type” men. This case also remains unsolved.

...
I can't believe they put victims' names in this stuff.  Not very protective, since he's out again.  If I was her parent, I would move and change names.  Small price to pay for security.  Even if the brain damaged girl had a complete adult brain, the knowledge of the violent offender being released would still be quite a bit to take in.  Is his mom in denial?

And, it's not the mom's fault her daughter was mutilated and damaged.  But, who the hell orders a pubescent male baby sitter from a classified ad?  In 1990?  No one.  Did she even check references?  And now, now, she is bandying about her name and presumed location, at a time when her daughter most needs protection.  Shame on her.

How did the offender get his first parole after raping two cellmates, two minors?

And how did he get another parole after immediately raping a minor the minute he got out on his last parole?

He should be castrated.  So many people say pedos can't be rehabilitated.  Then why not just castrate violent repeat child rapists.  I'm kind of sick and tired of hearing "no cruel and unusual punishment".  When a crime is black and white, cut and dry, perfectly clear, especially when the plea is guilty...and when the crime was heinous, I don't see anything wrong with giving the perp a taste of their own medicine.  I guess that would put am ideological dent in the oh-so-blessed plea bargain system, as well as deferred adjudications.  Well, then don't apply to those ones, only ones that are cut and dry, guilty as sin.

Debney Lynn Lobanoff, 28, mother to a young child, was last seen alive by her husband in their home in December 1981. The couple was experiencing marital problems at the time of Lobanoff’s disappearance, according to information provided by the District Attorney’s Office, and Lobanoff’s husband claims she left their residence with two individuals he described as “biker-type” men, who were giving her a ride to the East Coast.

The initial investigation ruled out Lobanoff’s husband as a murder suspect.

Unless they all were thug types themselves, I don't buy he's innocent.  Even with marital problems, I don't know a man alive that lets his wife go off with two thugs.  He would have at least cared about her as a friend and tried to intervene.  If he's innocent.  If not out of spousal concern, then out of concern for her child.

Gang-raped and dumped in Gurgaon, 15-year-old takes lift home. Raped again

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by five men on July 30 in Haryana’s Punhana, the police said on Wednesday.

The police said that a case was registered on Monday, after the father of the girl lodged a complaint, alleging she was kidnapped and raped by five men belonging to their area. A medical examination was conducted and the girl’s statement was recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC at the Nuh court on Tuesday.

Kirshan Kumar, station house officer of Punhana police station, said that the girl had told her parents on Monday that on July 30, one of the suspects, who is acquainted with the girl, kidnapped her and took her to an isolated spot.

“The girl, in her statement, said the acquaintance had called two of his friends, who raped her and threatened her with a country made pistol, against disclosing the incident to anyone. Later, she said that more people gathered near the spot. She asked two other men passing by in a car to drop her home, but instead, they also raped her and left her on the outskirts of the village,” he said.

The father said he found the girl on July 31 near his old house and she was under trauma. She did not tell her parents about the incident, but following repeated requests from her mother, she revealed the ordeal, following which the parents approached Punhana police station on Monday. The police said no missing persons complaint had been filed, when the girl did not return home on July 30.

A former resident of Fort Wayne, Indiana and longtime resident of the Florida Keys, Brandt committed suicide in September 2004 after he stabbed his wife, Teresa "Teri" Brandt, and decapitated and severely mutilated his niece, Michelle Jones, by removing her heart. An investigation by the police concluded that Brandt hanged himself in Jones' garage after committing the murders. It later came to light that Brandt had shot his parents, fatally killing his pregnant mother, in 1971 when he was 13. His father survived. He spent one year at a psychiatric hospital before being released, and was never criminally charged. Because of this incident, and because of Brandt's efficiency in killing his wife and niece and his hidden obsession with human anatomy, investigators looked into the prospect that he had committed other murders since moving to Florida in 1973. The police have linked at least two homicides to Brandt.

BHOPAL: Four days after a 12-year-old Dalit girl was found beheaded close to her village in Sagar district, the police investigations have brought to the fore a ghastly saga, which is bound to send shivers down anyone’s spine.

The police probe has revealed that the girl that contrary to her family’s allegations, was not kidnapped and murdered by a Kurmi community family which had enmity with her kin over a land dispute.

Instead, it was her uncle and three real brothers (who had alleged the role of Kurmi family in the crime) who gang-raped and then beheaded the victim, before dumping her body close to her village.

Investigations based on grilling of the three arrested accused, including the deceased girl’s two brothers and uncle Banshilal, revealed that the girl wasn’t allowed to go to school on Wednesday, but was instead abducted by her eldest brother Ramlal and brought to uncle Banshilal’s house in the same Belakhedi village in Banda town of Sagar district.

She was first raped by eldest brother aged 22 years, after which two other siblings aged 19 and 17 years also raped her taking turns. Subsequently, uncle aged around 40 years also raped the minor. The autopsy report of the girl’s body has revealed that the accused also did an unnatural sexual act with her.

After being gang-raped by her three brothers and uncle, the 12-year-old was beheaded by the accused with a sickle, as she threatened to report the matter to the police.

Entire horror unfolded before the girl’s aunt, who didn’t save her niece but instead helped her husband and nephews in concocting a story to attempt false implication of another family from the same village in the crime.

Investigations have also revealed that the eldest of three brothers had raped sister in the past also and threatened to kill her if she made the matter public.

According to Sagar district police superintendent Amit Sanghi, three of the four accused, including the deceased girl’s uncle and her two brothers have been arrested, while raids are being conducted to nab the prime accused who is her eldest brother.

“We’ll also make the girl’s aunt accused in the case, as she helped the other accused in the crime,” said Sanghi.

The minor’s headless body was found close to Belakhedi village in Banda town of Sagar district at around 7 pm on Thursday, just around six-seven hours after her family reported that she had not returned from school since Wednesday.

One of the uMlazi teenagers accused of killing, beheading and cutting off the genitals of a 15-year-old, in an apparent revenge killing, could not explain why the teenager’s private parts were discovered at his home.

Testifying over the past two days in the Durban High Court, Simphiwe “Maviva” Ntshangase denied having anything to do with the murder of Phiwayinkosi “Macala” Mhlongo in April 2017.

Phiwayinkosi was allegedly abducted at gunpoint by the six accused, some of whom were known to his family.

His body was found near a stormwater drain close to his home in C Section, uMlazi, and his head at a school in F Section.

It is alleged that the teenagers had planned to murder Phiwayinkosi because they believed he had “sold out” Ntshangase’s brother to the police. Ntshangase’s brother was killed by a mob earlier last year as a result.

Ntshangase, Njabulo Mhlongo, Luyanda Zulu, Thulasizwe Nene, Njabulo Mbatha and Banele “Boy” Mhlongo are accused of murder and kidnapping.

State advocate Krishen Shah continued to grill Ntshangase yesterday on his version that he knew nothing about the murder and was not at the scene of the crime, but Phiwayinkosi’s penis and testicles were found in a glass vase in a plastic bag in his yard.

According to Shah, all the accused were found at Ntshangase’s home the morning after the incident, drinking alcohol. The vase, illegal revolvers, live ammunition and a bloody knife were found in the backyard where they had been sitting when the police arrived.

“Was it a coincidence that the private parts belonging to Mhlongo were found at your home? This is something unusual,” Shah said.

Ntshangase said it was possible the body parts were planted at his home because there had been a lot of people there since his brother’s funeral.

Shah told the court that the revolvers found by the police fit the description of firearms given by Phiwayinkosi’s sister, Angel, as those carried by her brother’s abductors.

“I am going to suggest to you that you are a liar. It’s not a coincidence that the firearms, the knife, the body parts and the handcuffs were found at your home in the backyard where the police found all of you drinking,” said Shah.

The trial continues.

The Niigata girl confinement

The Lady and the Furnace

On the morning of October 30, 1928, a worker at the police station of Lake Bluff, Illinois went into the basement to light the furnace.

He found a naked woman propped up against the furnace, covered in deep, gruesome burns. She was Elfrieda Knaak, a twenty-nine year old book salesperson and Sunday School teacher.

In the hospital, she insisted “It was all my fault,” and “I did it myself.” Her sense of “faith,” and “purity and love,” inspired her to thrust her arms and legs into the flames to “prove her faith in the spiritual” and make herself worthy of her “astral sweetheart.” She wanted to “commit myself right in the eyes of God.” It was, in short, one of the worst purification rites on record.

She said that as she began to feed herself to the flames, she heard voices, and saw hands beckoning to her from inside the fire, which gave her the will to go on with her deed.

When asked how she had been able to unlock the door leading to the furnace room, and then lock it from the outside, she replied it was “A mystic hand.

However, just before her death, she suddenly admitted that there had been someone else in the furnace room with her.

She had made a suicide pact with another woman, who had instead run away after Knaak had been burned. She then changed her story yet again, stating that “Frank threw me down,” and “They did this.” She told her brother Alvin yet another version of the tragedy, saying “I made a mistake.

It was I alone that did it. I went alone.” She disclosed that someone had given her the key to the furnace room, but she did not say who that might have been.

She tried to say the name of a woman who would, she said, “explain all,” but unfortunately, she died before she could make the name intelligible to her questioners.

The coroner’s jury shrugged and ruled her death as suicide. The police, however, were much less ready to dismiss the possibility of foul play.

They reasoned that the door of the furnace was too high and too small for her to have burned her own legs and feet so severely. Also, a bloody handprint was found on the door, along with blood-soaked footprints leading up the furnace room stairs and back.

And, of course, there was that locked door. Adding to the mystery is the fact that the autopsy found that the dead woman had not only been burned, but struck over the head and electrocuted.

Found in Knaak’s purse was a letter she had received from a new-found friend, a woman who signed her name “B. E. Lock.” Evidently, they had a shared interest in what was described as “religious discussion.” It soon transpired that Knaak’s interest in religion had taken some unorthodox turns.

She followed the “New Thought” movement, a somewhat amorphous "mind-cure" belief system with links to Theosophy and Christian Science. It preached the importance of astral projection and “spiritual purification.

It suggests that either Knaak or someone close to her took the concept of “purification by fire” many, many steps too far. ("B.E. Lock" was later discovered to be a Luella Roeh.

She told police that Knaak had a fascination amounting "almost to hypnotism" for her, but was unable--or unwilling--to give any details that might have explained the young woman's death.)

On the day of the burning, Knaak had journeyed to Chicago on a business meeting. She left work and, around six in the evening, was seen at the Highland Park depot.

- She made two phone calls: one unanswered, and one where she spoke in guarded whispers. She bought a round-trip ticket to Lake Bluff and was seen arriving there later that night. This is the last known sighting of her until she was found in the City Hall.

Knaak had been involved with a married actor/policeman/elocution teacher named Charles W. Hitchcock, with whomâ€"so she saidâ€"she shared a “pure,” “astral” love. She told her doctor that “Hitchy got me out of hell about three months ago,” but gave no further details. Before her death, she told investigators that she had gone to Lake Bluff that night in order to see him.

Hitchcock, on the other hand, insisted to authorities that he had not been romantically involved with the dead woman. This has an “Of course, he’d say that,” ring to it, except that at the time of Knaak’s death, he had a badly broken leg which left him house-bound. Unless Mrs. Hitchcock was a remarkably tolerant sort, it seems unlikely that he’d have any lovers, astral or not, dropping over for a visit.

A month after Knaak’s death, a Texas man who described himself as a “student of occult mysticism” wrote to the police declaring that he had helped her burn herself to death.

He claimed that she had asked him to place her into the furnace. The man was quickly ruled insane and sent to an asylum, but he doesn’t seem any crazier than anything else about this story.

So, which of Knaak’s deathbed confessions was the truth? Was it murder, suicide, or some bizarre combination of the two? Or were all her statements the product of a dying woman’s delirium, inspired by the heavy doses of narcotics she received in the hospital? The only “Frank” who had any known link with Knaak was a violin teacher named Frank P. Mandy, who shared a studio with Charles Hitchcock.

However, it was uncertain that he and Knaak had ever even met, and he does not seem to have been regarded with any real suspicion.

Knaak’s death remains as creepily mysterious now as it was on that curiously-close-to-Halloween day in 1928

https://www.yorkregion.com/news-story/1461268-police-push-to-solve-hit-and-run-cold-case/

Somebody knows.

Every time she thinks about it, which is often, Lynn Sprague arrives at the same conclusion: Somebody knows.

The same goes for Bill Blundell, who still hears the sirens ringing through the night, and sees his mother's tears.

And for Mark Walton, the cop who has made it his business to solve a decades-old mystery.

Somebody, they feel, knows who was driving the car that struck Ms. Sprague and her best friend Sheryl Blundell as they stood on Main Street in Stouffville on the night of Feb. 6, 1973. Ms. Sprague, who was 10 at the time, survived. Sheryl was killed.

All these years later York Region police have renewed their investigation of the cold case, and are appealing for information. Constable Walton believes there are people carrying the burden of long-held secrets.

"I do believe there are people out there who know about this," Const. Walton said in a recent interview. "I have no doubt.

"I want to bring some closure to this family."

"We were going to the store," Lynn Sprague said as she recalled the night Sheryl died.

They were two little girls, best friends in Grade 3. Lynn was at Sheryl's house that day. A babysitter was minding Sheryl and her two younger brothers, Bill and Bruce. It was getting dark and the girls begged the sitter to let them run down to the store for candy.
As the girls walked, a woman pulled up and called out to them. She had a carton full of kittens on the seat of her Chevrolet Belair; she was looking for the veterinarian's office. Although the girls could hear her through the passenger window, the woman asked them to come around to the driver's side, Ms. Sprague said. The girls obliged, stepping off the sidewalk into Main Street.

They didn't hear the car coming. Ms. Sprague just remembers waking up as she lay on the street. Her shoes were missing. The dazed child began to look about in the winter gloom for her shoes. There lay Sheryl.

"I looked down," said Ms. Sprague.

She stopped to stifle a sob.

"Sheryl was bleeding from the nose and mouth."

People began to gather. A doctor arrived on scene. Sirens wailed in the distance. A bewildered Lynn Sprague ran home, wanting to see her mother.

People began to gather. A doctor arrived on scene. Sirens wailed in the distance. A bewildered Lynn Sprague ran home, wanting to see her mother.

Ms. Sprague was unhurt and spent the night at home under the watchful eyes of her parents. She remembers that sometime during the night -- the exact time is lost to her -- her dad told her Sheryl was dead.

Sitting in her Oshawa home 39 years later, Ms. Sprague was still amazed at how quickly it happened.

"We didn't see (the car) coming," she said. "We didn't have a clue."

The driver who struck the two little girls didn't stop. Police launched an investigation, interviewing witnesses and conducting a canvass of cars in the community, looking for vehicles that had sustained damage. Despite intense interest in the case, the trail ran cold.

Lynn Sprague was largely unaware of the ensuing mystery. She heard grownups talking about it from time to time, but for the most part resumed her childhood, trying to put the trauma of the incident behind her.

But in the Blundell household, it never went away. Bill Blundell, who was seven when his sister was killed, remembers a family wracked by grief and anger. He particularly remembers his mother's devastation.

"It was all she could do to get through the day," said Mr. Blundell, who now lives in Uxbridge.

He said his mother died in September of 2009, still grieving.

"When you take a child away from a mother it can never be replaced," he said. "She never got over it."

Mr. Blundell remembers being confused by the suddenness and finality of a death so close.

"I remember for a couple of years I would go to bed at night, hoping (Sheryl) would be there in the morning," he said. "Many nights I'd wonder why this had happened to her."

Deepening the family's turmoil was the knowledge that the driver who had struck Sheryl hadn't stopped, and was likely living among them in the small community of Stouffville.

"I am very confident it's a local person," Mr. Blundell said. "I'm also sure there are people who know who did this. That knowledge must be a burden that endures all this time later, he said.

"It's hard to imagine living your life, knowing what happened that night and not being able to say, 'Yes, I was the one'."

Const. Walton acknowledges that to a degree, he's hoping someone's conscience will prompt them to come forward with information that will finally reveal who was at the wheel of the car that struck Sheryl and Lynn. But he's also armed with new evidence.

When the case was re-opened, Sheryl's clothing was sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences. Paint particles discovered on the clothing have led Const. Walton to conclude the car was most likely a red Ford or Mercury automobile manufactured in the 1960s. It's not exactly a smoking gun, but it's a lead, he said.

Const. Walton has been re-visiting people who have given statements to police in the past and is casting a wider net, hoping to hear from people who never came forward. He's even been distributing posters in communities in north Durham in hopes of reviving decades-old memories.

The passage of time, the officer said, does not lessen the gravity of the offence, or the pain it caused Sheryl's family.

"Even though it was long ago, we still want to hold the driver responsible," he said.

That person may be alive; maybe not. It's the truth that matters.

"It's important for the family that's had to live with this for 39 years," Const. Walton said.

Ms. Sprague also is tormented by the enduring mystery.

"It's always weighed on my mind," she said. "It really haunts me."

She feels the driver -- she refers to the person as "him" -- is still alive and carrying the secret.

"I hopes it's haunting him, too," Ms. Sprague said. "I really do."

https://morbidology.com/the-girl-in-the-cupboard-sanam-navsarka/

During her short life, Sanam suffered unimaginable cruelty and torture at the hands of Anwar and Zaman. She was beaten and battered, sometimes with a metal pole. When she cried out in pain or fear, she would be locked inside a dark cupboard even though she was terrified of the dark. Inside the cupboard were child-sized bloody handprints from Sanam who had desperately attempted to escape the darkness. Most of the time, Sanam wore soiled nappies that caused her bottom to bleed.

On one occasion, Anwar put Sanam in a tumble dyer and dumped her in the bin as Zaman looked on. If Sanam had an open wound, the couple would spray it with aftershave. Neighbors would later recollect that they frequently heard Anwar calling Sanam a “bastard” and often heard Sanam screaming and crying.

Due to the extensive abuse, Sanam was left in agony, unable to walk, use her hands or even breath properly.

In the weeks before Sanam’s murder, social worker Judyth Kenworthy, received a report from Jacqueline Peel, a woman who ran a home for vulnerable people. Peel told Kenworthy that Sanam was often riddled with bruises and that she believed she was being abused at home. She even told her that Sanam was kept locked in a cupboard at home. Despite this, Kenworthy decided not to act on this report and instead shrugged it off as Peel “tittle-tattling.”

When Sanam died on the 8th of May, 2008, Zaman and Anwar attempted to claim that she had drowned and stopped breathing after they left her alone in the bath for ten minutes. However, her autopsy revealed the disturbing truth.

There was no evidence of drowning. Instead, the pathologist discovered 107 separate injuries over Sanam’s little body, including broken arms and legs. Ultimately, she died when a fat embolism entered her bloodstream due to the untreated fractures in her thigh bones â€" one of which had been completely snapped.
On Anwar’s phone, police discovered a heartbreaking video he had taken of Sanam just the day before her death. In the video, Sanam is on the floor, having a fit or convulsion, caused by the fatty deposits in her blood. Despite the fact it was evident that Sanam was in pain and distress, neither Anwar or Zaman thought to call for help.1

Subhan Anwar was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 23 years. Zahbeena Zaman was cleared of her daughter’s murder but convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to nine years. During the sentencing phase, Judge Peter Thornton QC described Sanam’s death as “one of the worst imaginable cases,” adding that “bravely she tried to carry on with her injuries and all the while you ignored her desperate needs.”2

The social worker, Judyth Kenworthy, was suspended for two years for her failure to act and save Sanam.

A damning report revealed that she had “sought to distance herself from blame” by concealing “strong indicators of abuse.” The General Social Care Council also found that Kenworthy had made a conscious decision to omit key evidence from police who were investigating Sanam’s murder. Apparently when questioned by police, Kenworthy had claimed she never worked with children before. However, Kirklees Council said that was not the case and that Kenworthy had experience of working with both children and teenagers. In fact, she had been employed as a Family Placement officer for 18 years.3

On the 14th of February, two inmates at Long Lartin Prison barged their way into Anwar’s prison cell. Gary Smith and Lee Newell were both serving life sentences for murder. The two men held Anwar hostage with makeshift weapons. Over the course of around 40 minutes, they tortured Anwar before finally strangling him to death with a pair of tracksuit bottoms. “He’s gone, he’s with Allah,” said Newell to a prison guard.5

Gary Smith and Lee Newell were found guilty of the murder of Subhan Anwar and were ordered to spend the rest of their life in prison.

14-year-old Margaret Ellen Fox vanished en route to meet a stranger on June 24, 1974 in New Jersey. She hoped to make some money during her summer break and had taken out an ad in a local newspaper together with her cousin Lynne the previous week. ”BABYSITTERS â€" Experienced. Teen girls. Love kids. Work at your house. Call...”. Lynne was quickly contacted by a man who wanted her to babysit for him in Mount Holly, but her mom turned him down, not wanting her 11-year-old to work out of town. He then called Margaret, who got permission from her dad to take the job. The man called himself John Marshall and said he would pay her $40 a week to watch his 5-year-old son for a few hours on weekdays, starting on Friday, June 21.

She was to take the bus to Mount Holly, about 8 miles from her home on Penn Street in Burlington (just a few doors down from Lynne), where either he or his wife would pick her up in a red Volkswagen. He called again and told Margaret's dad, who answered the phone that time, that he had to reschedule due to the death of his mother-in-law. Judging by the man's voice, her dad thought he was around 35-45 years old. Margaret's trip to Mount Holly was postponed until Monday, June 24. He never gave his address.

So, on the 24th, one of her brothers accompanied her to a nearby bus stop where, at 8.40 AM, she boarded a bus to Mount Holly. He was the last family member to see her. She stepped off the bus at around 9.00 AM on Washington Street, just steps away from the corner of High and Mill streets where she and Marshall were supposed to meet. A witness saw her talking to a young man in a red sports car. He was later cleared of suspicion and Margaret was thought to have mistaken him for Marshall.

Margaret had been told to call home as soon as she arrived at Marshall's place but the call never came. When she failed to return home at around 2.30 PM like expected (she was supposed to get a ride back from either Marshall or his wife) her parents became seriously worried. Her mom called the number the man had provided and reached a payphone outside of an A&P supermarket in Lumberton, about a mile south of Washington Street. She proceeded to call various John Marshalls in the area and her husband searched for Margaret in Mount Holly. They reported her missing around 12.30 AM on June 25.

The assistant manager of the A&P grocery store where the payphone was located was named Marshall, either Jack or John or maybe both since Jack is a common nickname for John. Either way, he passed a polygraph and had an alibi. Coincidentally, Margaret's sister-in-law knew him and was friends with one of his daughters.

”A lot of” women reported being ”accosted” by a man in a red Volkswagen. A man driving a car matching that description had attempted to pick up a girl in Mount Holly in May. A sketch was released in August. A sex offender who had owned a red Volkswagen at the time and lived close to where Margaret was last seen was questioned and cleared four years later, though his alibi doesn't seem super solid to me. He was a ham radio operator and, according to the logbook he kept, had been on the radio with someone when Margaret arrived in Mount Holly. [EDIT: Turns out I'm full of shit and that's actually about as good an alibi as one could hope to have at that time. Carry on.] He was ruled out along with 12 other persons of interest. A number of leads were pursued that amounted to nothing and the investigation dead-ended. It certainly didn't benefit from the rivalry and lack of cooperation between the different agencies involved in the case.

On June 28, four days after Margaret's disappearance and one day after it was first reported in the press, her mother received a bizarre call from an unknown man, who said: “$10,000 might be a lot of bread, but your daughter’s life is the buttered topping.” The audio was released only recently, after the FBI managed to enhance the quality of the recording.

The following day a letter arrived, repeating what the caller had said and instructing the parents to put the money in a box ”with blue wrapping (same as Margaret's blouse)." The sender claimed that ”Margaret is alright. We only tore her blouse and broke her glasses. Follow the instructions...” The color of Margaret's blouse had been reported. She appears to have had her glasses with her, but as far as I can tell that wasn't mentioned in the press, nor was she wearing glasses in the pictures that were released. Latent fingerprints were lifted off the letter but didn't match any of the ”military members, federal employees, and thousands of offenders whose prints were on file with the Burlington County Jail, Prosecutor’s Office and Mount Holly police.” As of 2017, the prints apparently couldn't be located. Margaret's dental records also went missing at some point.

Her parents quickly withdrew the money, but received no instructions on how to deliver it and two days later, on June 30, a second letter arrived that said (at least in part): ”$10,000 was a lot of bread. But your daughter’s life was the buttered topping.” Note the past tense. According to the FBI, the letter ”indicated that the ransom exchange was off because the parents had ”goofed” in making the arrangements.”

It ended with ”So Long Again” and the S, L and A were highlighted. SLA were the initials of the Symbionese Liberation Army, a terrorist organization famous for kidnapping Patty Hearst earlier that same year. They were not known to be active in New Jersey but were in the news around the time of Margaret's disappearance. It was never determined if the call and the letters were legit or a hoax.

https://meaww.com/sadistic-banker-woman-death-torturing-burning-genitals-raping-daily-boiling-water-eyes-lips-detatch

A Queensland man systematically raped and burned a woman during three weeks of drug-induced violence that grew more brutal as her injuries worsened.

Nicholas John Crilley, 34, pleaded guilty to 54 offences, including grievous bodily harm, deprivation of liberty and torture, following the 23-day attack in June 2017.

His assaults left the woman, who was 22 at the time, so severely injured, paramedics initially thought she was dead, the Brisbane district court heard on Tuesday.

“[Crilley] subjected the [woman] to severe physical, psychological and sadistic violence,” prosecutor Sandra Cupina said.

It included violently sexually assaulting her on an almost daily basis, setting her on fire and pouring burning water on the woman’s genitals.

“[He] beat [her], would become quite sexually aroused and then rape her,” Cupina said.

Crilley also made the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, eat her own faeces and vomit, and told her to choose her method of death.

She suffered multiple broken bones, deep lacerations to her face and burns to 46% of her body.

“The tissue on part of her face was so severely infected it was also infested with maggots,” Cupina said.

“If she had not been treated in hospital she would have died.”

Crilley eventually called triple-zero before fleeing the Brisbane home where most of offending occurred.

He was taken into custody eight days later following a dramatic police chase involving several stolen cars.

Paramedics found the woman “on the brink of death” in a semi-conscious state and severely malnourished.

She was placed in an induced coma and spent eight weeks in hospital recovering, including learning to walk again.

Doctors placed metal plates into her face and amputated part of a finger â€" crushed by one of Crilley’s blows as she attempted to defend herself.

The woman also suffered severe internal bleeding due to the sexual violence she was subjected to and later learned she had fallen pregnant to her attacker.

“I have been disfigured both mentally and physically. It is something I would not wish on my worst enemies,” she said, reading her victim impact statement to the court.

She said people now looked at her as a “monster” because of her “horrific, very visible and predominantly irreversible” injuries.

“Every time I leave my home I am stared at. I do not see myself walking down an aisle and fulfilling a woman’s dream of being married in a white gown to a man she loves,” she said.

Cupina said Crilley’s violent attacks were sustained, brutal and vicious.

“As [the woman] became more injured, [Crilley] increased the methods he was using to harm her,” she said.

“First the boiling water, then the acetone, then setting her on fire.”

“The horror [she] would have been experiencing is almost unimaginable,” she said.

Defence lawyer Malcolm Harrison said Crilley was in a methylamphetamine-induced delusional state during the prolonged assault.

He said Crilley believed the woman had been part of a drive-by shooting that targeted him, but it was not based on reality.

“This is a dreadful and extremely serious example of violence against a woman,” he said. “The offences were sadistic in nature.”

However, Harrison reminded the court Crilley had called triple-zero.

“That is probably the one factor in his favour,” he said.

Crilley will be sentenced on 1 May. The crown has asked that he be jailed for life.

Dr Carey Q. Stanton never married and eventually left NYC behind to live on his family’s ranch on Santa Cruz Island in 1957. He was somewhat eccentric and on the rare occasions he had visitors over to the ranch he would follow a rigid schedule and expect his guests to adhere to it as well. Dinner would be served at 7:30pm, coffee and cookies at 8:30pm and he would promptly retire to bed at 9pm.

Stanton died on 8 December 1987 and was buried in the island’s private cemetery. His will stated that the ranch be left to the Nature Conservancy who would oversee activities on the island. In April 1990, a metal box was discovered in a shed on the ranch. Inside it were severely decomposed human remains that was basically just a heap of ashes. Alongside the remains were sets of false teeth dating back to the 50s, a clothing fastener dating back to the 40s and a diamond-studded ring dating back to before the Second World War. Tests were done on the fragments of bone found, and it was established the remains belonged to an elderly female who most likely died soon after the war. While Stanton was never believed to have been responsible for the woman’s death, it remains unclear why her remains were in a metal box on the ranch. She has also never been identified.

I fell down a rabbit hole after watching "Deadbug" cover this case on his "Lust Crimes Pt 4" youtube video.

A 9 year old girl is kidnapped and brutally murdered.  The small time cops bungle the case after her body is found, mishandling evidence and then convincing the victim's family to change their own story to fit the cops "hunch" that the neighbor's son did the crime. (He was at work/heading home when the murder occured.)  The neighbor is wrongly convicted after several trials, but DNA evidence frees him 3 years later.

According to Deadbug's video, the family went back to the crime scene and found more of her remains lying around as she had been gutted badly.    The police dug her body back up to match the missing remains to the girl.

Oddly, almost all the articles I read online omit the little fact that her (adopted) brother admitted in court that he had been raping his sister with his friends since she was 2!

"CALGARY HERALD Fri., June 5, 1992 CANADA V '?? V lr Brother admits to incest JESSOP: Age 15 in '84 photo LONDON, Ont. (CP) - The step-brother of a nine-year-old girl found murdered and sexually assaulted testified Thursday that he had group sex with his sister from the time she was two years old. In a startling confession, Kenneth Jessop, now 22, admitted he and two friends a pair of brothers began having sex with Christine Jessop in the family's home in Richmond Hill, north of Toronto until she was about seven years old.
