It was back in 1998 that Art had a time traveler show and got a FAX from TITOR that started it all.

Speaking of RCH and the moon, I have 35mm slides I bought back when Apollo was flying and last time I looked at them I sure could not see his so called glass dome or whatever.

I need to dig them out again and convert to digital just to make it easy to view them.  Kind of hard to find a 35mm projector in good condition now days.

Caught the time traveler show and it was good to hear Art almost live again.

Great drone video.  Guess I need to buy the lot next to his and we can have dueling ham stations ..

In my Years doing this show the guy on Friday night who said with regard to Nuclear War "I would try to get directly under a incoming middle and call for a fair catch" nearly knocked me out.

Hey Art, I was in one of those known ground zero underground places and we all kept a bottle of hooch in the desk drawer.  We knew that when the warning was given we had maybe 15-minutes so might as well let the atoms go out happy!   :) ;)

Why do these retards always think gold would have any inherent value after the collapse of human civilization?

I think the same thing.

That was always a strong station to listen to when driving late at night. Seemed like no matter where you were in any of the flyover states, you could pick up WWL at 880 or WLS at 890.

Yes you hear either one all over the middle of the country.  Good to hear Art on the radio again and to time travel to pick up anything I want to hear again.

The local station here in Denver, KLZ 560AM, does a replay so covers 10PM to 4AM local so there is no reason to go to the other station over night at all.  You get to hear Art again and catch up on what was said then can time travel later in the day for a refresher.

Keep going Art and rebuild the empire!

Art posted this on facebook a few hours ago:

New Stations for MITD: First come first served:
Starting in Dec KFMB SanDiego/La
Starting early October:
KFRH Fm 100KW Las Vegas 104.3
KBET 760AM Las Vegas
KTKN 930AM Ketchikan, AK
KLZ 560 AM Denver, CO 5KW
WDCD 1540 Albany, NY 50KW

And so it begins, this is how we take
back the night. Please call your local station and request MITD but make sure it is not the station that carries that other show but instead the competition.
Art

----------------------------------------------------------------

That was fast - some big powerful AM radio stations in major markets already signing up after only one day!

KLZ in Denver is being a little quiet about it for now but the front desk did mention she got some calls from listeners excited to hear Art will be on.  The PD was not available for comment.  It is a nice 5KW station that covers the metro area very well and also south to Colorado Springs and north to WY and of course the major interstates that come thru Denver.

The station that carries that other guy is a 50KW one but usually has sports on for some of the time slot and many times uses half the time slot for sports.

Good to have Art back in Denver for those working nights who only have a radio and no net access or are time travelers as I am.  Will still time travel as I am now listening to last night.

I'm in and have been for a while.  Worth it when one works days to be able to download and listen and pause when needed (boss coming).

Makes the day go faster listening to Art.

I do catch him on SW some nights when I am up as there are no local stations yet.  I keep after them and am trying to get the old flagship that let that other program go and now only plays trucker over night.

I just gotta say, again, I am so happy for Redacted... I know how happy this must make her.

AND, anybody that wants to criticize and say she doesn't have enough experience, consider this:
Wouldn't you rather have someone like Redacted who has an encyclopedic knowledge of the Art Bell universe?  She's been a fan of Art for decades, and she's well acquainted with the topics, the workings, and the magic of the things that has made Art's show great.  Now doesn't that qualify her?  Because I'd MUCH rather have someone like her than someone with a seasoned radio resume that just doesn't quite grasp the whole Art Bell realm.  Think about it, it's really a perfect match.  And she has Art's blessing, so cram it if you don't like his choice.

AMEN General.

Congratulations (Redacted) I know it will be GREAT!

Listening to Podcast now at work.

Thank you everyone for your advice and encouragement.  At least there's always the internet to listen to Art on...for some crazy reason I just wanted to experience the show the old fashioned way like I did back in the day.

I hear you there.  Will still purchase the podcast and all but just for the old time sake listening to Art on SW with the fade in and out a little and funny phasing you hear on SW signals just adds to the show.  Also brings back memories from way back in the 90's driving out in the middle of nowhere on non-descript roads in the desert south west and actually going thru Pahrump while Art was keeping my eyes on the sky or road watching out for whatever may come from behind a cactus or over what may be over that next hill.

Even seeing those 'rods' one night when Art had a show on about them.  One crossed the highway right in front of me, saw the truck then made a U-turn back from the side it came from.  Of course those were the early days of cellular and huge no-service areas.  I was so excited I kept watching for a signal just so I could call Art and tell him.  Sadly it was a couple more hours and the show was over when I got cell coverage near a town.

EDIT:  Just noticed my Avatar is gone.  Got to dig it up and post or find another one.  Guess it happened when the site got moved.

Been reading the mail for a while so figured I'd chime in.

I've been using SW for decades and it can be a challenge at times.

I can receive the 5.085 and also the 7.490 signals on my old 1960's analog Lafayette radio SW receiver although the analog is a little hard to tune in, too use to the digital readouts now days.

One major problem I found in any type of built up area is the noise and I mean noise.  Noise from all types of lighting and any dimmers and your WIFI or Internet modem seems to be all over the place with noise.

I have a ham friend who has LED spotlights and when they come on at night they wipe out his HF and even his 2-meter VHF so only the strongest stations come in.  He has to turn them off to hear anything.

Outside of the old transistor receiver I am also listening to the SW stations with an old Hammurlund HQ-140 tube radio I use the metal downspout as an antenna, takes me back to the 50's and 60's when I used that at home at first.

I also have up to date digital ham/SW radios and for them they are on nice outside antennas and those frequencies are solid loud and clear when they are on.

The major problem with SW and analog radio in suburban and metro areas is the noise from all the other houses and whatever around.  Sadly, outside of a complete power failure and you on battery power it is near impossible to make the noise go away.

You can experiment and see, maybe one area of your home is not as noisy as another and of course even getting a little length of wire outside the home could help.

Worked many a ham stations with my portable ham radio from hotel and motel rooms with just wire thrown out the window.  Of course really killed the TV reception but those complaints went to the motel/hotel as no one knew.

Gonna sign up for the free month and also haggle when renewal time comes.  I don't travel much anymore so the Internet will be the best bet plus it will be possible to listen to the archives during normal hours after a well rested night since there is nothing on over night and if I have a sleepless night just turn on noodle brain and I will be back to sleep.   ;D  If I am up then the computer will be on and I can catch Art live.  Either way, I will be there and thankful that there will be something worth listening to again.  Even if Art is having a bad program it will be better than anything noodle brain could ever come up with.

I'm hoping Art avoids low-level frauds such as Reed, who have been thoroughly debunked in the years since their original interviews.

Maybe Art is bringing on Reed, Hoagie and a few others early to get into the grove to lay into them.  Listing to the old Art shows he has the knack to get in there with the questions and take them apart in a nice sort of way.  Age and wisdom allow a person to call someone a useless SOB in a manner that they think it is a compliment and they like it.  Art has that going for him which is why he is the Master and GNS!   ;D

The 30day free trial offer is for the internet only package that doesn't use a Sirius radio at all.
No need to buy a radio, just use your existing computers, laptops, smart phones or tablets with wifi and the internet only package deal free for 30days, thats the best option for most.

Thanks for the clarification, that should work just fine and, as I expect, the program is good then I can see if this used one works.  I got to check and see if there is like a test channel you can listen to as that will tell me if it receives OK and the other functions work.

I am sure that on a bad day Art will exceed anything noodle brain could aspire to if he tried to aspire which he can't.

I'm going all out to make funds for Art.  I even found a fellow who has a used Sirius-SM portable that I can get for near nothing.  I told him if it works on the free trial then he has a sale so I guess I find out the weekend before which still leaves time to run out and buy a new one if needed.

This is how much I feel that Art will not suck in any way.  A bad day once in a while, listen to the old shows and you will hear some, but all in all better than what is on now.

Got up this morning and found the serious news on Sirius so I can be sure this will not have me hearing Art.

Can't afford it even with the discounts so I guess it is listen to others and wait for weekends on C2C when the suckage is down.

Late last week, someone here made reference to a new Microwave license being granted in Pahrump, Nevada. No source was cited as far as I remember. Unless I missed it referenced later on, because I believe someone asked for clarification.

I think we are confusing a 'Microwave' license with a AM radio license... two very different things. Art never had an AM radio license. A microwave license would make total sense if he were doing the broadcast from home (or even KNYE).

I think this is the nail on the head AWGUY, KNYE is FM at 95.1 not AM and yes Art would need a license for the satellite link which he had used before and if the license expired then he would need a new one or if within the grace period renew of the old.  I haven't had time to dig into the FCC data base to see but I think this could be it and would fit Art since doing the program from home would help his family life schedule a lot.  He could do a night show while Asia sleeps and then catch a few winks then be up to see her off to school then back to the sack for a few more then up for her to come home then a nice family dinner then maybe get show preparations ready then a quick nap then show time.

I'm his age and quite honestly that would work for me if I had that type of a job.

At this point my story can be told about noodle brain.

It was 5 or so years ago, I was at an event and hit the button to call the elevator.  Door opens and there is noodle and Tommy and no one else and I got on.  Few seconds into the ride I turn to noodles and put my hand out and he puts his out and we shake while I am saying "George, you're doing a great job, I don't care what Art says about you".

My floor comes as our hands part.  Tommy is moving to the one back corner of the elevator holding back one heck of a laugh and noodles is sinking into the floor.

I parted with "have a good evening" and went on my way and once the elevator door closed broke out laughing so hard it really hurt.

I guess he and Tommy went to their suite as I heard he was a very expensive person to get to talk somewhere around $3,000 for maybe a total of a half-hour and sadly at the lunch . . .BARF!!!!!

Now some of you know who I really am as you were there I am guessing.

who the hell buys am/fm radios that cost over $100???

and even if you buy one... it's not like you say to yourself "you know what this room really needs? 3 or 4 more $100 radios to really get the look i'm going for"

You can get blue ray players cheaper than some of these radios... and those hook up to the wireless internet, and stream movies!

It's not like all the tweens are trading in their iphones and ipads for a hand crank am/fm radio that has been flown in from the early 1990's

every device that hooks up to the internet now days can stream radio stations live... and if for some reason the world goes to shit and all the electric lines are down and we are forced to subsist by scavenging the burned out wasteland... guess what?! the radio stations wont be working!

This rant has been brought to you by Carnivora. That's C-A-R-N-I-V-O-R-A.

Back in the 90's there were not a lot of quality radios around unless I wanted to use my ham radio that also receives the AM band on its' antenna but that is and was in the basement so not really useful as a bedside radio.  When I heard Art talk about the CC radios I got one and also the antenna booster and set that up bedside with a pillow speaker.  The only problem was that Art was almost always interesting so sleep was a premium but he did open the mind and if not for him, Y2K preparations to patch the flaws in computer code that would have caused massive issues may not have got going as soon and as much as it did.  Before you say Y2K was bunk, keep in mind that lots of computer controlled things from power stations and the like worked on older controllers that used date code truncated so 99 was 1999 and when things turned over to 00 the system would indicate a 100 year lapse with no maintenance and go into fault.  Phone systems were also on truncated code and that night thousands of us were up at keyboards or critical points to perform a reset so things would go fairly smoothly.  A few hiccups happened but thanks to Art and the clarion call to action major issues were averted.  I might add that I was listening one of those nights and heard Art and a guest talking so brought that up in a meeting and found out that several others also listened to Art and C2C.  That was in 98 if I remember correctly.

I doubt noodle brain would have had enough going back then to sound much more than a Carnivora that is C-A-R-N-I-V-O-R-A call and have no idea that Y2K issue was a major problem waiting to happen.  Art, being the geek and great host understood the issue and the problem.

Thanks Art, you saved us from weeks if not months of misery by sounding the call back then.   :)

How the fuck can you listen to that hysterical right wing shrieking in the middle of the night? They're doing a bad Limbaugh impression, and with irritating voices to boot.

I keep asking myself the same thing but it is better than noodle brain and at least keeps me cranked up over something where as noodle brain just totally pisses me off with his stupidity.  Most nights I listen to nothing because I sleep but on the nights I need to be up I need something and if it is not Sunday and Knapp night then that is the only alternative on stations I get out in the hinterlands of the plains.  Seems Red Eye is on every station that use to have C2C on and all of them come in strong as does the station (KOA) with C2C that is unless there is a game then the game on KOA is more interesting than noodle brain.   :(

I think it's a bit coincidental that Ross Mitchel (I think I got the name right?) leaves the announcing duties from Coast, and not long afterward the slogan that he's most known for shows up on Art's website in huge letters. In fact, the first official content from the site is the question "Wanna take a ride". Art has said that he's been working on deals for quite a while. So I do wonder if he was able to convince Mitchel to leave Coast for his show, and what other guests/personalities he may attract if and when his show/podcast/whatever gets off the ground.

Ross is heard on Red Eye Radio the over night trucker radio that, at least here in the Denver/Colorado Springs area, is on all the stations C2C use to play on.  That should say something about C2C right there.   >:(

Back maybe a year ago on Red Eye, you would hear Ross say ". . . make the switch, I did . ." and at least I understood it was a slap at C2C.  Cumulus and Red Eye don't play that anymore as I suspect Prem-Rat got to them over it as I am sure they understood the meaning.  ;)

Sad to say but on the nights I am up, Red Eye at least keeps me awake.  C2C will either put me to sleep or have me wanting to throw the radio and since it is an expensive C-Crane I bought back in the Art days, I refrain from destroying that memory!
