How would you think I feel?
It sure would have been and they were ready! People think I wanted to blow all that up? Good God! We were just about there, so close, the whole thing makes me sick.

Art

Yeah, but we're talking about the safety of your family first.  Right?  In my book that tables the deal, or any deals, either for the moment or permanently.

Perhaps it blew up bigger than you intended too quickly....maybe you were gun shy after the Sirius fiasco or how Coast ended?  I dunno.    My take is that you were willing to see just how far this project would go.  My deux centime.

Fear fest? It certainly sounds like you are an awfully weak individual and should probably stick to listening to Noory so that you don't get too scared and stuff.  And be careful on this forum since sometimes people post really scary cartoons and stuff.  Poor baby!

Yeah, I don't get why people think you're happy about this. I mean if they only knew all the hours and calls that you and others put into stuff like that deal. The amount of work off air, to make sure the show would end up being heard by the largest audience possible, was a huge effort and very, very, real.

Rossy, I'm thinking that most people live comfortably inside their box.  They don't comprehend what goes into 'making' that box for them.  Something happens that screws with their daily template for life and they lose their shit.

It would be rude to take that particular monopoly away from you.

Get a grown up to read all this to you, sit down with a mug of tea if you must; but please please don't believe what you think. It's fucking you up.

I hadn't heard about that, but now that you mention it I'm surprised that I haven't heard him say "bada-boom, bada-bing!" because he articulates everything he says as if that's what he's saying.

Well, I'm not the one posting about how "scary" Art Bell's show topics are and how it "negatively affected my life" as if someone put a gun to my head and made me listen.

I still cannot believe I read that on bellgab.

Critical thinking?  Come on, it's absurd that anyone would post something like that here.

There really just is no excuse for people to wallow in IGNORANCE and fear.
Perhaps you find that entertaining.
I do not.

I am particularly touchy about the Zita "plague".
It's scaring the shit out of my pregnant daughter, and literally all the pregnant ladies I've seen on various forums.

Read the links I posted, take a second out of your busy forum presence to have a constructive that ugly about something... anything. If that's even possible for you at this late date.

I know any time I am looking for a rational view point I contact a chorus of pregnant ladies.

Fair enough.

Time to get back in the saddle Art. Being off air is a waste of material. You made a big impact on broadcasting, and should continue doing so. Get 6 months or a year in and all the offers will flow again.

You being off the air, beyond security issues, is kind of a mistake.

Dammit. I'm still a fan boy.

Nice. I don't see why Art wouldn't just do a podcast weekly, monthly, or just randomly and make it more like "Dreamland" and not caller focused. Then:
1) we would still have some Art
2) he could do it whenever (and not interfere with family time, get on weird night schedules, etc)
3) it could be played whenever and announced beforehand (or not announced and maybe help draw listeners to Heather and encourage Time Traveler membership. Just as LMH makes some anti-Norry people still tune in those nights for her. But Art would be bigger draw.)
4) stalker wouldn't know when/if Art was recording so harder to stalk
5) easier to get good guests, even 'stars' or mainstream guests, because not at 1am

This is a really good set of ideas and alternatives. Hope springs, eternally.

I honestly can not say what my path is for air work. The first consideration is security. After that I might do a little bit and see how it goes. At the moment everything is in the air. I have to spend some "quality" time with my Dentist in the short term, jeez I hate Dental work. I can see myself doing a day or two a Week IF we feel secure about it.

Just have them all yanked out and get a full set of store bought choppers. Should come with a nice prescription too.

I hope all goes as least painfully as possible. I just find one of the worst things about Medicare is that it neglects the two things seniors often need more than anything: dental and vision care!

Speaking of security my dentist just got his office's windows broke. He was considering advertising as a painless dentist  <*Gong*>

Did you hear about the Maharishi Majesh Yogi who had his teeth pulled without novacaine?
He wanted to Transcend Dental Medication.

coaster

I'd take twice a week.
I had four wisdom teeth pulled in the same day. I was a zombie for a while. Drivers were probably terrified that a half out of it guy was passing by, spitting out mouthfuls of blood. I switched dentists after that ordeal.

Ditto.

Also, has it occurred that going back on the air would be the best way to catch the stalker. There is a wide range of ways to catch him if he ever comes close to your residence again.

Unfortunately, going public with your calculation that broadcasting again is only worth it if you feel secure is (and has been) very counterproductive. You're inviting every jerk out there to call and threaten you or loudly fart in your general direction ("high-powered" farts or not) should you broadcast again.

I'm just saying that you should think whatever you think, just don't advertise it.

I'm a chubby chaser, I admit it. I'm not saying you could lose a few,

While I initially found the idea of being with a hunchback adventurous, the reality of it proved otherwise. I should have known something was up when you chose "Anschluss" as the safe word, and then proceeded to demand perfect dialectic Bavarian pronunciation or "no dice" as you put it. It was painful watching you laboriously stuff yourself into that latex suit, much the same as it would be to watch a whale get harpooned solely for its oil content. It was both startling and sad, and had me wondering why the universe was so cruel. And there was little I could do to help seeing as how I was tied down. After two and a half hours of watching you thrash about, for the entirety of the deed to last for less than ten minutes was a let down to be sure. Then the table broke. I've had better sex with myself, Sredni, but I'm up for it again I guess.

It's smoke.

At some point, a cigar just becomes a cigar. The reports were posted by the sheriff's office. To conflate that further is to begin to leave the realm of likelihood.

That's certainly true now, but I wouldn't want to get on the same plane as him in the years immediately following the fatwa. Anyway, are you suggesting that Rushdie made the whole story up for some fucked-up reason? You are such a cynical bastard sometimes!

No, he didn't make it up. He just knew how unlikely it was for anyone to act on it. If Rushdie was really concerned about it, he'd have hung up the writing career. Instead he made a fortune from the fatwa. I don't blame him for that, but it simply is what it is. He risked it to continue making a comfortable living.

Quote
Well, if you have a regular Sunday afternoon squash game, and then you find out your mother has just dropped dead, it's normally considered acceptable to break with routine once in a while. Under the circumstances, he should have known better than to carry on regardless. And he should also have considered the repercussions, if he was currently living in such a state of terror, as he claims.

If I lived in a desert that only saw snow once every few decades (how nice that must be) and it started falling, and there hadn't been an incident in a while, I'd have risked it. I think any reasonable person would understand that.

Stop muscling in on my cash cow! I knew something funny was going on when I read that report about the St Louis Mayo shortage. I see that you are trying to sweeten the deal by throwing in a few favours to lure the old boy away from me.

If I wanted to muscle him away from you, I'd buy a month's supply of microwavable pre-packaged TV dinners and I'd have him. While it might take quite a while to recoup the funds, perhaps years, it would eventually happen with youtube revenue being so high for a man of his caliber.

So let me run this one by you. We go back to the shark idea and remake Jaws as a porno. I'm thinking about the working title "Jowls". You play the Richard Dreyfuss character, I'll be the old sea captain, and Falkie gets to be the shark. We'll keep it simple. All we need is a rowboat and the marijuana. Not sure where we'll fit Kirstie Alley, both in character and physically. But I'll think of something. What say you?

I wonder if you could do the show over Skype from just a laptop or mobile device... the SQ would probably still be pretty decent and maybe the wifey would be OK with it as long as you're not leaving the main house.

Exactly.  Plus, it doesn't become routine.  Just a long enough wait each week to make it all that much sweeter when the magic voice breaks into the night.

Sounds perfect to me.  Time to turn lemons into lemonade.  It's up to the Big Kahuna, of course, but I can always dream of "Dreamland."
