Well at least those people have money, are forced to invest in something, and are entering the country legally.

Please give me a greencard.

New plan for the Alamo

Happy Birthday Mr. Overton! Oldest US WWII veteran who still enjoys whiskey, cigars, and good food like tacos and hamburgers. We named his street after him. He is also fond of guns. So kids, this would include people in the 70's, keep off his lawn!

""I used to drink whiskey a long time ago, I always drank a little bit--it's what kept me alive, living so long, " says Overton, never shy about his key to longevity. "Whiskey help ya the same as medicine if you take it right.""

Pretty cool, thanks for posting that. I wonder if other countries keep track of their oldest veterans.

Looks like some do. Hal Holbrooke is in his 90s

Interesting list. Damn, only 878 still left. I hope relatives are listening to stories and recording them, if possible. Monty Hall is still alive? Glad to see that. I had a Mandela Effect, I thought he had died. Weird.

I guess we just got named the most diverse city in America. Overall I think we handled the transition fairly well.

12,000 homes around me without power. Luckily I am not affected. No weather events. Too early to tell if it was the Russians.

http://www.statesman.com/news/local/this-crazy-austin-man-sues-date-for-texting-during-movie/NVZRQcXkONqKuTtSTtX1JK/
"ROUND ROCK
A man is suing a Round Rock woman for texting during a movie date at the Barton Creek Square theater, according to a petition filed in small claims court in Travis County.

Brandon Vezmar, 37, of Austin filed the claim Thursday against his date. He is asking for $17.31, which was the price of the movie ticket to a 3D showing of “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2,” he told the American-Statesman Tuesday.

The 35-year-old woman, reached by phone Tuesday, said she didn’t know about the claim against her. She asked that her name not be used."

“While damages sought are modest, the principle is important as defendant’s behavior is a threat to civilized society,” the petition said. “I’m not a bad woman,” the woman told the Statesman. “I just went out on a date.” “Oh my God,” she said. “This is crazy.”

"The Spurs have not asked the NBA to review Zaza Pachulia's foul on Kawhi Leonard, which caused Leonard to re-injure his ankle and forced him to miss the final 20 minutes of Game 1 and all of Game 2. Juan Vazquez isn't letting go quite so easily. Vazquez on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against Pachulia and the Warriors on behalf of Spurs season ticket holders and San Antonio card shop What's On Second."

I don't know how many transgendered people are in society. It seems to me that when you "diagnose" a child at the age of 4 as transgender, there may be something else going on.

Texas approves the hunting of feral hogs and coyotes from hot air balloons. (Note: on private property with permission and permit, not at the In-And-Out Burger in Round Round- why KXAN would use that stock photo is weird.)

A feud between two families in S.E. Austin (not the best area of town for any of you vistors, though one you need to sorta drive through to play golf at one of the public courses) results in one man shot, another stabbed, another run over, and local news said some kind of crime scene at the hospital. Police investigating the 'multiple crime scenes.'

I like this line in the article:
"Note to new homeowners: if you bought your home for more than the assessed value, it’s probably best not to protest your property appraisal."

Also, note $190K for a home in Southeast Austin with "home’s roof damage, rusted vents."

I have to protest my land up in Limestone county again. I did a few years ago and had no luck even though it was appraised for $10k more than I had just paid for it the month before. This year they raised it 23% and there have been no improvements. It is just woods - no structures- and isn't even fenced.

I have a small bridge built across the creek that holds my four wheeler and tractor but to access the back 90% would take a $20k Bridge. I don't expect to win this time either but I have to try.
No utilities either.

I use a lawyer for my house down here, and they take a % of the first year's savings, but rural counties don't have those types of firms. Lawyers up there want an hourly rate and a retained.

Last time after I was denied, one of the county assessors approached me to ask if I would help him protest his taxes in another county because he liked my presentation. I declined. That is not a joke. Right after he disapproved mine he asked for my help.

That is funny, but not haha funny. Here, if you are just a normal person and not a multiple property owner or something, the deal is usually you just file an exemption (online now) and they usually cut you a "break." Basically, the same scam that a professor would use who doesn't want students to bother him at office hours. Make the test harder, in this case the assessment higher, people complain about low grade, than curve it so most people get a 'better' grade, in this case give you a "break" and everyone walks away happy because home owner didn't have to pay the higher value.

Too bad, it is a county by county thing I guess. Good luck. Looked into AG or wildlife management exemptions and that kind of thing? I don't know the rules.

You know, honestly, I was considering when our local conspiracy guy gone international now, was having a screening at The Alamo Drafthouse decades ago I was joking with a friend: let's go down there in your black Suburban wearing dark suits and sunglasses, slow down, and take some photos of Alex and folks going in to the movie and then quickly drive away. (I got the idea because a few years before that there was some "incident" and a lot of Mexican protestors at an insurance company by me- 'redlining claims' or some such- and wondered what was going on and so walked over and noticed that the protestors were all on the sidewalk- so legal- but State Farm or Farmer's- I forget now and don't want to allege so could've been anyone or other insurance company- had people outside with cameras prominently taking pictures of the people protesting.) Never did it, but would've been funny. Now things are so violent, especially with the Left, I wouldn't do that. So I won't be supporting this guy with his Wonderwoman stuff. Plus who wants to see some crappy Hollywood CGI movie anyway?

And maybe a 'special session' will be called? They are, often, like school kids. Wait until the last minute to get things done and often don't and need to have some summer school. If you have the right, non-political job you can actually make a lot of money due to their high-jinx because before session over (or if goes to special session) you get a lot of over-time pay. Bars etc also like 'special sessions.'

Not sure if real or faked but only in the People's Republic of Austin:

The illegal who killed his kid had the kid returned to him recently:
http://kxan.com/2017/05/31/2-year-old-boy-who-died-last-week-had-similar-injuries-when-he-was-a-baby/
"Records show Silva-Salas has multiple previous traffic violations and is on an immigration detainer." is mentioned in the earlier article for some reason him being an illegal is not mentioned in the follow-up story.

I guess this is supposed to make me feel more secure?
http://kxan.com/2017/05/31/sensors-throughout-austin-monitoring-for-bioterrorism-agents/
"Dr. Philip Huang with Austin Public Health is the local chair of the BioWatch Program. He says the sensors work like a vacuum sucking in air samples with special filters. The samples are tested every day at a secret lab in Austin."

Two bounty hunters draw weapons on the fugitive in a car dealership with customers and staff in close proximity. Fugitive draws then drops his own gun. Fight ensues, fugitive retrieves gun and a shootout ensues. Staff and customers still in close proximity. What could possibly have gone wrong? Fortunately no-one innocent was killed.
