Thank you, Uncle Duke, Brig, Star (CT), Rix, albrecht, Juan, and all the rest of you kind enough to revisit this thread. I stopped by hoping that this thread would continue as a Bellgab tradition. I am big on traditions. This is a thread for everyone and a place I had hoped would bring us all together, at least for awhile.

Life is a little hectic for me right now. Mr. Pye's retinas have been successfully reattached and, after two months, he was able to actually "see" the faces of the skilled surgeons who restored his sight. He will have more surgeries to come and another specialist for cornea implants.

This is the season for gratitude and reflection and especially so for us this year. We are so grateful for the people who dedicate their lives to careers most of us never really think about until we are in need of their help.

This season can remind us all that gratitude is the key to happiness. I did not come back to lecture anyone, so I will leave it at that. I just wanted to share this with you all in hopes that you will find much to be grateful for in your holiday season as well.  :-*

And for those of you who want to continue fighting into the holiday season, just remember this...

Good news about Mr.Pye's eyes. Hope it all goes well. I liked that motivational poster also.

IT IS  SNOWING HERE!! Real snow with big flakes and actually sticking to the ground, deck, and vehicles. So far the roads are too warm so it is a slushy mess. But blowing/falling pretty good that on the country road it was hard to tell where the road was! Rare for Central Texas and all the neighborhood kids (and adults) are enjoying it. First time for many kids to have seen snow. And all are hoping for the miracle of a snowday.

Already covering the ground up in College Station. My daughter has seen snow before but she is giggling.

I hope to make these in the next couple of weeks.

STAINED GLASS COOKIES

Adapted from an Alton Brown recipe.
Ingredients:
• 3 cups all-purpose flour
• 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 egg, beaten
• 1 tablespoon milk
• 2 Teaspoons Almond Extract
• Additional Powdered sugar, for rolling out the dough
• Assorted Jolly Rancher Candies
What You Will Need:
• Baking sheet
• Hand mixer
• Parchment paper
• Cookie cutters*
*In choosing the shapes and sizes of the cookie cutters, consider how they might fit inside each other; however, there is no harm in hand cutting each cookie, if you like. For instance, I chose a snowflake shaped cutter to fit inside a large round cutter, and that worked well for my themeâ€" but these cookies look special even without a theme-specific shape!
In a large bowl and using your hand mixer, combine the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Next, add the milk, egg, and almond extract, and mix thoroughly. In a separate bowl, mix your dry ingredients with a fork. The final step is to, in thirds, mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients bowl. After adding the final portion of dry ingredients, the dough became too tough for my hand mixerâ€"so I dug right in! Knead the last portion by hand.
Allow the dough to chill for at least an hour before working with it, longer for more humid climates. Because the air contains a lot of moisture in Florida (even in winter), the butter in the dough melts at a faster pace, which will eventually cause the cookies to spread during baking.

Those suspiciously look like those Shrinky Dink things kids made in the oven back in the 70's. Not edible. But sort of cool.

Kids around Central Texas celebrating! A rare snowday! No school and so a 3 day weekend.

The "glass" is melted Jolly Rancher candy.

Charlie Brown Christmas is my family favorite but ABC for some reason aired it on November 30 and I don't think there's any more showings for December.   >:(

TCM tonight is showing my favorite version of A Christmas Carol from 1951
