Nice analogy.  And we all know how things ended up for Steve.

I find Alex Jones hilarious. Everything is a conspiracy to this guy. He's a great actor and he kisses George Noory's ass a lot. I used to think he was harmless and just good entertainment. Some of his stuff is good/true. The food/FDA stuff is interesting and the steroids and hormones in beef is correct, but you can't make an entire radio show out of it, so he has to go on and on about Bohemian this and that.
What's dangerous about him is that he is the Rush Limbaugh of today. Rush was a hero, but at least Rush was grounded in reality, but he was still a rebel. I think Alex is dangerous because rather than just have a rebel appeal, he is making young guys who worship him think "if I'm a loser, it's the government's fault. I don't want to pay my taxes or do anything because this country is so corrupt. I'll give myself to the truther movement." Alex makes a great living off of his following, and his family is getting the benefits, but the price is high.
So many elderly and youth are buying into his bullshit, to the point that I read an article by a young woman whose father went bankrupt buying all the nonsense Alex endorses, for fear that the collapse of the world is near.

JustOneFix

I just found out that Alex Jones had Al Jourgensen on the show from the band Ministry. That should've been a good show, but I need to find a podcast of it, since I don't listen to Alex Jones.

Jones imagines himself today as a post-apocolyptic, politico-preacher who owns the last functioning radio transmitter on Earth.  Any nutter who follows that crap over a cliff should be held 100% accountable for their own actions.

I agree, but Alex Jones lies. I'm sick of George Noory, Alex Jones, and the regular guests telling people how evil modern medicine is and that doctors are just pill pushers. Say that when you need emergency surgery jerks.

I think the best argument for just how delusional Alex Jones is, is the fact that he is now on national radio via XM, and I think he's syndicated on many terrestrial radio stations across the country, as well.  The US and Europe are probably the only places on the planet where the powers that be wouldn't shut down a show like his.  Try this type of show in China, or Iran, or Venezuela and see how long you last.  I'm sure there are many things wrong with our government, I'm quite sure they are not entirely on the up and up and manipulation and obfuscation are a part of the normal government SOP, but, at least so far, ours is the best standard of living the world has ever seen and we have the freedom to listen to Alex Jones.  That in and of itself says a lot.

I agree. It's not easy to find a way to use Alex Jones to make America look good and reasonable, but you just did it. Bravo! Alex is popular because he's insane. Last time I listened to him he was like "my blood is boiling!" and he was pounding the desk audibly of course, and he was changing his voice to sound like a demon and he was like "can i eat your baby? can I take your baby and tag him? can I experiment on him? THAT IS WHAT THE NWO wants folks!" I feel sorry for his kids.

Alex Jones' kids better be home schooled. They're in for a lot of bullying in the future. "Hey! Are you drinking from the water fountain?! I'm telling your daddy!"

He always has a megaphone with him and screams about the New World Order. I agree, this man is a nut case. :)

There ya go.  Noory has an obviously overblown fear of his own demise, which is why (IMO) he puts on so many health informercial shows.  Say he gets cancer, do you REALLY think he'll just double up on the turmeric? No way, Jose.  ???

In addition to the idea of blame that you mention, sometimes I wonder if the appeal of people like Alex Jones lies in the twisted hope that there's someone out there more organized and competent than we are.  Of course, I'm not speaking of Jones, but of the Illuminati / NWO / Knights Templar, or whoever.  What would be scarier to the average person if the poop hits the proverbial propeller?  An organized shadow group pulling strings, or everyone in sight without a clue?

People - particularly the young - often fight order, and at the same time, find it securing.  When we make that order a hidden entity, it is easier for us to juggle those two beliefs simultaneously.

Oh yeah, and Jones is nuts, too.

Interesting discussion and comparison.  When it comes to believers in things like the Illuminati and other groups I can only come to one conclusion about where their illusions come from.  There's a large population of people who are perpetual victims in everything that happens to them.  You know the type.  They'll take no responsibility over things which happen in their life, as small as spilling a coffee, or as large as the string of shitty jobs they continually got fired from over their lifetimes.  I think the Illuminati believers are a small extreme sub-class of this personality and the idea of these groups running their lives removes responsibility from choices they are faced with.

My understanding is that Alex Jones is married to a Jewish woman. I don't think he is anti-Semitic at all. I do think that Israel has a lot to answer for, but I don't think Alex Jones is the one to cover it nor does he. I'm not a regular listener, so I could be wrong. I also know that he used to HATE David Icke because of the lizard theories LOL. Alex should be respected for that. Then Alex gave in and now Icke is a regular guest. LMAO. Alex Jones is a non-discriminating whore. He gives whores a bad name. I think I could call in and say "Alex I work for MI-6 and Mossad. I bought Osama bin Laden lunch and he spoke German, Pig Latin, Spanish, English, and Arabic." And he will write an article on inforwars.com and Drudgereport will link it.

Why the hell is Matt Drudge linking this guy? I mean, matt drudge is shady too, but still.

BobGrau

It's an industry. Check that fat gold watch he wears in his movies.
This was already touched on in the ed dames thread, I think, but it applies to jones as well - he was into 'conspiracy theory' long before he started a family. Would a true believer bring a child into this prison planet he keeps selling? From that point of view, I really hope he is a calculating fraud, rather than just an irresponsible piece of shit.

There is absolutely no way he believes all the B.S. that he puts out on the show, for any number of reasons including the fact about his kid, me thinkest.  Clearly he is a shock jock, in the tradition of Howard Stern, but in a different genre.  A man has to make a living and that niche was open.

I like Alex Jones. I cant think of any other reporter covering politics as well. If you want to know whats going on I think its better to check his website a time or two a week than any other news website. I think you just get more relevant information.

Its up to the reader to filter out what is over hyped and what isn't. That is far easier than visiting a news website and not seeing 1/100th of whats really happening.

His show does feel a bit scattered. I wish he would boil things down to a more organized 30 minutes and lose the rants or sidetrack information. He seems to do well when he has guests, so maybe the deal is he needs a sidekick or two constantly there to bounce him back on track.

I do like his shorter appearances on C2C. Like his news website, I wouldn't mind hearing him every week or two with a few minutes summing things up.

I like Alex also.  I don't buy everything he sells, though.  I wish he would calm down sometimes and let his guests speak more rather than his highjacking the interview.
He had George Noory on as a guest last week, by the way....

Alex Jones is the Lucy van Pelt of talk radio - you JUUUUUST start thinking "hey, this guy just might be on to something" - then BAM he says something so outrageous or stupid that the football of belief is yanked away.  Is ANYTHING not a conspiracy?  And it's interesting that he tosses "George Soros" into his sentences with the same frequency Madden tosses in "Brett Favre" (or Joe Morgan "Ken Griffey Jr.").

G-d forbid he discovers Steve Quayle... his microphone would melt from announcing how George Soros is breeding Globalist Socialist Giants in Tijuana so they can steal our guns then use them on us to force us to get Lenin tattoos.

Go to the Daily Show and Colbert to get news instead, then.

So much of Alex Jones is spin it's ridiculous. If there is a signal there it's drowning in noise.

The other point I was going to make was about keeping yourself filled in on news from more than one source but I thought it might be too preachy and I stopped myself. Kinda.

And they'll put RFID chips in our Lenin tattoos so we can be logged when we drive on the NWO toll roads to our new FEMA Camp homes, where we'll be served a diet of soylent green and assigned to the bull horn production line.

Today on Alex's show, they're announcing a massive warning about an "imminent Israeli nuke strike on Iran" - "within TWO WEEKS!!!".   This isn't enough, however, to make him cancel his vacation, nor preempt the guest talking about additives in granola...

Probably do it after nuking Syria as well. Imagine if Jonesy was on the air in 1967, 1973 or 1982?
