Ever since Chefist brought up The Thing Museum about a week ago, I've had this on rotation:

Have you ever seen the original?

I nominate this for future meals for you to try once you finish the gallon of chili.

I have no problem with eating chicken!

No, but I have the original short story on amazon audio.
It's a really good story!

My father swore that was the only movie that ever gave him nightmares. It’s kinda tame in comparison to Carpenter’s version, which I much perfer but is still worth a watch for historical reasons. Anyway, if you’re on a The Thing obsession you might as well throw it in.  ;)

That makes you and Metron both with the recommendation so I just might!

It laid the groundwork for one of my favorites growing up.

I LOVE that film! The remake was nothing to write home about though. Big Harryhausen fan here. "Sinbad & The Eye of the Tiger" is another fave:

And not just for the claymation  ;D

Y'know, I've seen this on thousands of times and I never watched it. No idea why.

* The amount of remakes reflect the originality of the liberal Hollywood mindset. Why, they're even trying to remake socialism!

It never gets the attention of Clash, but Jane Seymour and the Baboon are a killer pairing. ;)

Oh great, remember it rhymes, not repeats. That's why Maduro got droned...

Annie Potts. Ghostbusters. Nerdy librarian. Weiner happy. 😍

I don't doubt it. Does it make the rest of you happy too?

"The Thing" and "Body Snatchers," saving letters by not using their full titles, are two movies where, arguably, the remake is better or as good as the original.

Metron2267

Very much NOT so with "War of the Worlds".

Carpenters version is nuts. Some of the craziest special effects ever. There’s something to be said for the realism of physical effects vs CGI which just doesn’t capture gore as well. The scene with the dogs in the cage. It’s still insane today. The producers had to make some changes to get the R rating as it was considered too violent for the MPAA R rating. And it’s just a great movie.

I think Kurt Russell is a little underrated given the number of really great roles he's had. That was one of them.

Oh and:

Oh and:

He indeed is. He got a Palm d'Or at Cannes for his great role in "Now You See Him, Now You Don't".

He was great in "Overboard." He has quite an acting range and should be more recognized for his achievements.

I just watched Bone Tomahawk for the first time earlier today. I'm not quite sure what to make of it.

Speaking of boats, sailor, don't forget this one.  Funny as hell.

It actually was a good movie!

Jackstar

I'm not sure y'all are clear on what "underrated" means. The guy is an actual living legend.

ItsOver

Certainly better than the ass that's know as Kevin Costner.

Oh yes great flick! Including performances by Lee Van Cleef. And the lovely Adrienne Barbeau.

Speaking of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. The soundtrack composer Ennio Morricone, also did the soundrack for The Thing.
