Like you, I was in the "ABC" camp. The Democratic Party couldn't have chosen a more corrupt and more crooked Establishment politician. They picked the one candidate that Trump actually could beat.

The major problem is that it is "politics of fear."  There was a provincial alternative for an election, and I told my father that I was going to vote for party "x" as they most closely matched my beliefs and views.  He was upset and told me that I needed to vote for party "a" or else party "b" might get into power.

Anyhow, it was a long argument.  I told him that I could not vote for a party who only held 50% of my beliefs in order to prevent a party who I strongly disagreed with from getting in when there was a party whose platform I agreed with 90% of the time.   (I hope that makes sense.)

Anyhow, that is where you are now.  People vote more against a party than they do for what they believe in.  They are afraid to vote for somebody who represents them if it means that they might split the vote allow a candidate that they hate representing a party that they dislike to get in.

No, I don't know the solution.  I know that I voted my beliefs, and it made no difference in the grand scheme of things.

There is one hope- but it will not happen.  Trump could tell the truth (that the republican party is a corrupt, dishonest party that often mirrors the democrats) and run as an independent next election.  I believe he would get in, and it might finally break the hold of a two party state.  It won't happen- but it is a nice thought...

I am NOT more comfortable with the notion that someone else will determine an algorithm to herd my voting in any given direction or that anything in th eAustralian, Nee Zoolander or UK model bears the slightest improvement over our extant system!

You need to spend some time on that link and ask yourself precisely why you think a "ranked" vote will be an improvement over a "raw" vote.

And then please explain how coalition governance has (if you can) led to better outcomes overall than the two party system.

2.) A basic nationalist, pro-populist platform in which capitalism is venerated(not vilified) and free market solutions are sought over simple obedience to failed global governance pipe dreams.
