At least in the south where all the best people live. Now the vowel has gone further back whereas before it was placed further forward. For an example listen to Celia Johnson in the film Brief Encounter. So Pall Mall would have sounded very much like pell mell.

It was from his posts I got that idea. I believed him a long time ago and gave him leeway to be a jerk. Slowly I came to think he was never in the military. Shit like saying they would make black companies go in first so they would get slaughtered, and seeming pretty happy about it.
