Hate to hear this - The Brain was a great heel.  He was pretty much unrecognizable in recent years as a result
of his illness.

Jake LaMotta

Tough as nails, this guy.  RIP.  He gave the reaper a run for his money too.

Raging Bull was one of the first movies my pops thought I could handle..must have been 12 or 13.  When it got to this scene, it struck me as hilarious.  I knew i wasn't doing myself any favors, but I couldn't help but to laugh my ass off.  The overall picture of the scene..not funny at all, but when Cathy Moriarty (who was sexy as all hell) starts screaming in that voice of hers about doing all of LaMotta's friends, and brother, with De Niro standing there with his shirt unbottoned and gut hanging out...couldn't help myself.

Actor Bernie Casey has died at the age of 78.  Perhaps best known as U.N. Jefferson in the Revenge of The Nerds movies but personally, my favorite Casey roll was when he played Major Jeff Spender 'The Last Martian' in the televised mini series The Martian Chronicles.  He starred in some Blaxploitation films too.  RIP Bernie.

I'm surprised Casey was only 78.

Cool!  Did you also get to meet Cornel Wilde?  If so, what was he like?

Yeah, it was weird in that I spent that summer with my mom and dad and I being the only guests in the motel suites that weren't with the movie crew. Cornel Wilde, his wife, and son were in the room next to us. For the first week we would be mistakingly roused at 6am with everybody else. We got to know everybody well and the young Wilde kid would stay with us some days when he didn't want to run around on the film sets. Mr. and Mrs. Wilde seemed like genuinely nice people and most of the cast would hang out swimming in the evenings.

What was strange is that the next summer we went back to the same motel to spend the summer and checked into the same suite. When we got into the room I turned on the tv just as the premiere of The Gargoyles was being broadcast for the first time!

Sorry to hear about Richard.  One death has been missed during the last week.  Horror director Tobe Hooper has died.  He was responsible for the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, as well as Salem's Lot, Poltergeist and a personal favorite of mine, Lifeforce.  He was 74.  RIP to both.

I didn't know this.

"Director Ridley Scott has stated that his work on Alien was influenced more by Hooper's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre than any other B-level genre film."

I just bought the Texas Chainsaw Massacre blu-ray at Wal-mart in honor of Tobe.  It is not my favorite of Tobe's films because I'm not generally a slasher horror movie fan but I got some shits and giggles when I last watched it on the big screen which was some time ago in the 90's when it was on the midnight movie circuit.

If for no other reason than his contributions to film preservation,  I hope he rests in peace. I didn't particularly admire the man but he was classier than Larry Flynt.  For better or worse, he contributed greatly to the pop culture of the last 70 years.  God bless him for giving us naked pictures of Pamela Anderson, Marilyn Monroe and many others.
