He loved crashing airplanes?  Isn’t “He died doing what he loved” used when someone passes away from a heart attack while pursuing a hobby?  This misunderstanding is probably more me than you.

QuoteActing Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan told investigators from the Pentagon's Office of the Inspector General that he called the F-35 fighter jet program "f----d up," but made clear that he wasn't referring to the aircraft itself, which he said was "awesome," according to a Department of Defense report released Thursday.

Shanahan's comments were detailed as part of an ethics investigation by the Pentagon's Office of the Inspector General into allegations he was promoting the interests of his former employer, Boeing, and repeatedly disparaging the company's competitor, Lockheed Martin, which is the primary contractor for the F-35 fighter jet.

Ultimately, Shanahan was cleared of any wrongdoing as investigators determined his "comments about the F-35 program were substantive, related to the program's performance, and were consistent with comments about the F-35 program made by other senior Government officials."

Didn't know any of them still existed, yet alone in flyable condition.  Looks like a grease spot - too bad.
Don't imagine the fly boy fared to well.

As Naval aviators would say, "he busted his ass."

There's plenty of life left in the Airbus A380
https://australianaviation.com.au/2019/05/theres-plenty-of-life-left-in-the-airbus-a380/

I'll just mention one thing that wasn't brought up in the article: there isn't likely any future for the A380 as a cargo aircraft like there has been for the 747 due to the basic design of the aircraft being incompatible and inefficient for wholly freight usage.

Reminds me of this mishap involving an Air Canada DC-9 that made an emergency landing at CVG (Cincinnati) due to an in-flight fire.  I represented the USAF at the NTSB hearing for this mishap, came away understanding such hearings are more about pointing fingers/fixing blame than learning lessons to preclude similar incidents in the future.

If it bleeds it leads, indeed. Geez, as Norry might say, talk about no tact. "how many bodies did you see?" "were they scorched?"

More info on the Russian incident.   Rumor has it some porker blocked the aisle getting his luggage out as the
plane burned.  That just can't be true?   :o

It is Russia, so anything goes.  And the dude also had a harelip. Having said that it could, possibly, be argued that saving the luggage was a good safety option since all that duty-free vodka could've made the conflagration even worse?  I also note, in keeping with best British tabloid practices, that the 'paper' inserts an image of a Russian stewardess for eye-candy for readers.

I believe it...A couple of years ago a BA 777 made an emergency landing (Engine fire I think) and there was footage of people taking their locker stowed rolling overnight cases down the slides and walking across the tarmac to the waiting emergency crews.

Was just going to post that.  Seems like she had it going on during the crisis.  Kicked the door open and was throwing bastards out

BA?   All hope is lost then.   Air China I would expect that on.   Soon as the door closes on a flight to China you are essentially
*in* China.

Frankly I'm a bit annoyed that there is no follow-up "journalism," in the grand British tradition, showing her in the bikini she wore on her last Black Sea vacation and the follow up in the female news section:  "how YOU can match hero Tatyana Kasatkina's fetching red outfit."

But in seriousness, good credit to her for helping people out and not freaking out during a crisis like that.

How come I always seem to get some older, jaded stewardess plainly sick of her job and just mailing it in or, worse, some high-energy, flamboyant male steward on flights and not ones like her?   >:(

There was a stew on the Air Canada flight I referenced earlier who abandoned her post, left passengers to fend for themselves in the smoke and fire.  The lawyer for the Canadian flight attendants' union, a former stew herself,  defended her during the NTSB hearing, all the while attacking the pilots, Douglas, and the CVG firefighters.

Best defense is a good offense, eh?

The airline can't be held responsible for the fucktards who pay absolutely no attention to the safety briefing given before very flight. It's just selfishness and 'Me' attitude that some have. I don't regret a single dollar I spent on this:

Ha! Carlin had a good rant about flight and the terminology/euphemisms used. A guilty pleasure is I still like to draw shark fins in the water on the safety brochure.  Likely a Federal violation, so please don't report me. I deny I ever did this, actually, and have redacted my statement which, not being under oath, is inadmissible, it was also not an excited utterance or recorded recollection. Never happened.

Ha!  Maybe some Hearst website posing as a U.S. newspaper, like Chron.com, can step up with a 50 snapshot gallery to click on.

I recall at the time thinking "BS" when NPR reporting it.  "Accidentally"  hitting the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade during our support for the Muslim terrorists/NATO expansion? Come on." I also seem to recall the facility.  Not sure or going with his theories but still it was a weird incident that doesn't seem, as poster mentions, seem to be recalled by many.  I seem to recall a facility in Bethesda even being "known" locally though changes so I think N.Va now for a 'mapping agency'? But, yeah, we got maps wrong. I'm NOT saying the Serbs were good or even comment on the realpolitk, vis-a-vis China, Russia, etc  going on but to say "accident," to me was off and weird how all seemed to buy it.

And this comment on vid made me spit-take:
"Something surreal about Japanese talking about American war crimes against the Chinese."

The commanding officer of the 509th gave a talk on B-2 operations in the Balkins at the USAF Museum a year or two after the fighting there.  He was asked about the Chinese Embassy, and he answered simply, "We hit every targeted objective."

Ha. Interesting. Thanks! Uncle what is your "take," to use a Norry term he cribbed from awful sports radio, on KLA 007 (RIP Larry McDonald) and TWA 800 (the latter was during Art's Golden Days so lots of good shows and conversations on air in that regard.)
