I believe this Area 51 charade is being done for one of two reasons: 1). Heather Wade wants to give up the show so she goes to Area 51 and is never heard from again. 2). Art wants to return to hosting and takes over when Heather disappears.  Personally, I think it is #1. It a classic, fabricated set-up story like the stalker.

Art, I think that the main reason the formerly "warm" supporters here went haywire is because they were behind you so much, supporting you in many ways, even paying for your show via DMDN. I myself listened live, but never bothered with listening to the archives, even though I was paying the monthly fee. I did it to show support to you, in the belief Sirius/XM treated you wrong.

While I fully understand you were in a very difficult situation with intruders/shooters at or on your property, I agree, you made a bad decision in the hasty handling of that situation by quitting. I think that by making that quick decision, a lot of the people here felt like you abandoned them after all of their support.

Again, I fully realize you needed to do something, and though I agree that you could've handled it better, it "is what it is."  I'm not sure what will happen going forward, I assume you won't be back on the air on any regular basis. And, I'm not sure how much support you'd get from what remains of your fan base. It is sad, though, as KABC had just picked up your show, which was a big "get" for your show, and probably a surprise to Noory that KABC would do so.

I think, in the end, people just wanted "the good times" of listening to Art Bell to come back. And though, in life, it is most commonly agreed that one "can't go home again""," all of us Art Bell'er's lived a short, 5 month dream of new Art Bell shows. For us, the good times were back!  But, now they are gone again, likely never to return. Of course, only you, Art, have the power to return and do what you love to do-radio. I'll keep hoping to once again hear your golden pipes on the air, lighting up all the red beacons on the many towers blinking in the night, pumping out kilowatt after kilowatt of amplitude modulation.

This is real easy to solve!  His "The Answer" hint must point to getting carriage on WNYM-AM-970, licensed to serve metropolitan New York City. WNYM calls itself "970 The Answer." Congrats Art!

If I were Art, and I really wanted to come back to doing a radio show, I'd be very careful here.  If he is surprised Keith Rowland quit, imagine how he will feel if Keith in fact "sold out" to I-Heart/Clear Channel.  I have learned to trust very few in this world. If you were Keith, and a company came to you with a large buyout offer, he'd be hard-pressed not to take it. I assume that Keith does not have the $ Art Bell has to live comfortably in the future, so IF an offer came along, he'd probably take it.

This way, I-Heart/CC makes a strategic offer by taking out a key foundation support of Art's comeback, thereby doing catastrophic damage to the fort as a whole.  Art, hopefully, has not "non-compete" deal with Keith. if so, now I-Heart/CC might in assuming all terms of a deal to purchase Rowland's site, etc.  I hope I am wrong, but, as I said, NOTHING surprises me. And, George Noory's cryptic tweet tonight about "something big and good" really makes me wonder.

Art, don't let it affect your health. Your health and time with family is what's most important. If it doesn't work out, at least you tried. And remember, at least you can always feel good in knowing you set the gold-standard in night-time radio, and blazed the trails for this genre of nighttime talk radio. Thanks for all you've done, and please enjoy life-don't worry about us, we'll be fine. And we will treasure the good times forever.

Hi, I am a long-time fan of Art Bell and respect him so much. I truly hope his planned return in July goes well. But, while I know Art is savvy and very wise, I just hope he takes into account all of the "dangers" that lurk, such as "non-competes," etc. I worked in radio for over 25 years, and I know Art had a connection at one of the stations I worked at (WAVZ).  I personally think the best thing for Art is to form his own streaming network, that HE owns and controls. Then, do a deal, say with Lew Dickey of Cumulus, where Cumulus pays Art for broadcast rights of his show (this would have NO effect on his streaming). Broadcast rights fees would generate revenue for Art for use to fund the various costs associated with his streaming network. This is what I think he should have done with Sirius/XM.  This way, Art retains ultimate control, and Cumulus simply carries his show on their stations. This would be a boon to Cumulus in their continued challenge to I-Heart/Clear Channel stations, such as in NYC. Additionally, if he were to follow this formula, there would be no non-compete because he based the show on a streaming feed he owns and, if things went south with Cumulus, Cumulus simply drop the broadcast simulcast and Art could simply continue to stream.  I think this could be a great thing as it would generate revenue for Art and his efforts, such as paying Paul, etc., plus it would garner additional listeners beyond what streaming will.  In the end, I wish Art the very best, we are all pulling for him, he is a visionary, and if I were not in Connecticut, and closer to Pahrump, I would volunteer any services needed to help Art in his launch efforts. I left radio in 2000 and went to broadcast TV, but it would have been a great honor to have worked in some way with Art. I hope Producer Paul, and Keith, for example, know how lucky they are to work alongside Art Bell.  Finally, thank you Art for all you do and thank you for the many people you comforted late at night, including my late mother, who, for many years, tuned in to Art before going to bed. You kept her and many others from feeling alone in the night.

Hi, I haven't logged in since right before Art started on Sirius XM. I have listened to Art since the 1990's. Love his shows! How do I find out what the news is? How do I get a private message or code? I'd love to know. I can't wait to hear Art again, LIVE, in July.

George, as much as what you say could be 100% true, it's all about PERCEPTION. And that perception is like if some younger guy threw Dr. Johnny Fever under the bus. Arthur Carlson would've never allowed that, God rest the big guy's soul.

Art, no matter what Noory says, you've worked in radio, as have I. You full well know it's an industry filled with people trying to get ahead-at anyone's expense. Remember that. Even "the messenger."

Think back. This is why Coast left SiriusXM in September. They knew Art did a deal with SiriusXM.
Jocko Johson's comment is wrong. While most Clear Channel stuff is gone from Sirius XM, Z100 & KIIS are still there.  I listened today. Channels 11&12.

Well, there you go! Coast To Coast is back on SiriusXM in place of Art Bell. My hunch is Clear Channel called SiriusXM last week, and offered a deal where Coast To Coast gets Art's old slot. In exchange, SiriusXM will hold Art to the non-compete, thereby eliminating ANY competition from Art for 2 years. Back room deal. No doubt. If I were Art, I'd be pissed and the mere thought of "hurting" the program he built (Coast) would not phase me. Like Peter Lassaly (former Johnny Carson and David Letterman honcho) once told Letterman in 1993 when NBC offered to can Leno in favor of hiring Letterman: "Dave, the show you now want is not the Johnny Carson Tonight Show, it's the Jay Leno Tonight Show. It's tarnished goods."  So Art, don't worry about the old show. It's not the Art Bell Coast To Coast, it's the George Noory Coast To Coast. It's tarnished goods.

If we believe that there is someone working behind the scenes with Sirius/XM, the only one could be Clear Channel/Premiere. Why? Clear Channel, under their I-Heart brand, owns Z-100/New York and KIIS/Los Angeles, both of which are carried on Sirius/XM. In other words, SiriusXM and Clear Channel have a working relationship. In fact, Clear Channel had an ownership interest (shares) in SiriusXM until mid-2013 when it sold its interest in SiriusXM for $135.5 million. It would make sense that Clear Channel would try to protect their "nighttime baby," Coast To Coast AM. So, with Cumulus being the arch-rival of Clear Channel, this is why Cumulus is where Art needs to go, to be successful, once the non-compete issue is resolved. And Cumulus has very DEEP pockets. $$

ROSS MITCHELL ! Another reason to call Cumulus is that Cumulus hired Ross (Art's announcer on Dark Matter and former Coast To Coast announcer) when Clear Channel/Premiere canned him. Ross now works for Cumulus. So Art, go be with your friend, Ross Mitchell. Go home. Go to Cumulus.

But,  yes, the Non-Compete may be an issue.

Ok, I worked in radio for 25 years, and in fact, my first job was at WAVZ in New Haven, where Art Bell, in "The Art of Talk," says he walked away from a job decades ago. WAVZ was a legendary top 40 station. I believe that, while streaming is all fine and good, that, since SXM is a dead issue at this point, that the ONLY way for Art to have a financially viable show (the more listeners = higher ratings = more advertisers and advertisers that get results) is for Art to stream AND do terrestrial radio. Art, call Lew Dickey at Cumulus Radio. You know Lew wants to win the game with Clear Channel/Premiere. Lew Dickey (Cumulus CEO) could give you the shift you want (if you don't want to stay up all night, Art, I'm sure he'd give you 10p-2a eastern). Art, you know that you need to BROADcast to a BROAD audience. The streaming NARROWcast is just icing on the cake.  If you want, I know people at Cumulus. I can get you a number (though Art, I think you know who to call at Cumulus). Art, don't feel bad about hurting Noory's show. I have learned over the years not to look back and to do the right thing. Art, really, do you think Noory's gives a crap about you?  Art. Please. Call. Cumulus. Now.

Well, I called it, scheduling-wise. I said in CoastGab a few days ago Art would probably do an earlier 3 hour show which would repeat later. This way it's not totally competing with Noory. Sirius was smart in knowing Art wouldn't go a full-schedule. They Taylor made the deal to his liking.

I worked in radio for over 20 years. I know how corporate radio works. I don't like how corporate guys and consultants ruined radio. Radio was about personalities. Though its not like it used to be. It's people like Art who made the difference. I predict he will come back for a 3-hour nightly show, and it will run either 9p-12a or 10p-12a eastern. Then they will replay it immediately after the live airing. This way it won't directly compete (live) with what Art started (Coast). This would also not hurt Art's time with his young dayghter. Now, the question is if Art made a deal with Lew Dickey (Cumulus) or John Malone (Sirius).  Cumulus has major-market stations ready to clear a new late night program. Plus, being on terrestrial radio is the "traditional" way that Art loves. So I would think Art would lean towards Cumulus. But, Art also has embraced new technology in the past so I can also see him liking Sirius. Sirius would give Art almost complete format freedom. They would run few, if any commercials.
I guess we will sit tight and wait. But Art, if you read this, know that I respect your love of family and desire to be with them. Yet, I too miss my radio career (which I think you do also). I think you CAN have both. Especially since you are in the drivers seat. Art, do what makes YOU happy. Most people, like me, will respect that.

I would expect Art to end up at Cumulus, but with Sirius dropping the George Noory simulcast, that could be because Clear Channel/Premiere knows Art has a deal with Sirius. On a somewhat related note, if Art goes to Cumulus, he will be on Cumulus-owned WABC-AM in NYC. Also, read below how Cumulus may drop Rush and Hannity from the Cumulus stations, which would include WABC.

Deadline Hollywood:
Cumulus Media may beat Rush Limbaugh to the punch. A source tells Politico the broadcaster is planning not to renew its contracts with Limbaugh and conservative host Sean Hannity following negotiation breakdowns with Clear Channel’s Premiere Networks, which distributes both shows. In May Limbaugh reportedly mulled leaving Cumulus after receiving blame for advertiser decline in the wake of his controversial Sandra Fluke comments. Cumulus CEO Lew Dickey told Bloomberg TV at the time that “we have the premier talk distribution platform in the business and if you want to be on a big stage in this game, you need to be on our stations in the largest markets. They’re the biggest signals, the heritage brands and everybody knows that.”
