Quote from: Dr. MD MD on November 13, 2022, 04:00:54 PMSorry, could you explain why it's not murder? Because instead of doing that after stating it's not murder you just went on to issue personal insults to me, as usual.  :-\

When one person decides to terminate another persons life and then does it that's pretty much the definition of premeditated murder, is it not? ???

Not if it's inutero and the mother makes or gives an informed consent to terminate, no. There are very rare exceptions when a severely mentally disabled woman does not give consent, when it is left to an advocate, and a court.

I know you can't grasp that, and you're really trying to avoid admitting the whole debate with anti abortion is to control women's reproductive health and rights, but those is the facts barbie.

But the other facts remain, some of the anti abortionists would deny abortions under any circumstances, including a child carrying to term. One even said it would be a fulfilling experience for her. Leaving out the bit about it probably killing her or leaving her unable to have children when a woman.

'Banning' abortion  won't stop it. It will just kill more women and girls.

No-one asks you why you killed all that sperm in a tissue everytime you wank.

And it isn't murder. But carry on the christo fascist mantra if it makes you feel like a man. You cannot even begin to imagine what a woman feels about termination, but sure go ahead and be the one persecuting her more than she feels already. What a pathetic scumbag you are. Happy to be a bully?

Tell you what, why don't you volunteer to sit on a 'panel' and interrogate a woman wanting an abortion, or better still have to prove to a self righteous twat like you she miscarried. I'm sure you'll feel so much better.

Not side stepping at all. When my son's mother was giving birth the chord was round his neck, long story short it was a difficult birth for both. But if there had been an either/or crisis, I'd have wanted her to live over him.

As you've never been in that position you're not remotely qualified to decide by proxy if a woman should or shouldn't decide to terminate a pregnancy. How are you on sex before marriage and contraception? Would it be valid to ban either/both? And if not, why not?

I'll make it simple; If Putin hadn't sent his under equipped, under trained and uninformed military into a sovereign nation uninvited, he wouldn't now be getting his ego fucked and having to explain to the families of about 100000 troops why their son, brother, father, uncle isn't coming home.

Which 'things' are you specifically referring to? 'My' side just happens to believe that if you're eligible to vote then you should without hinderance from armed assholes hassling and intimidating poll workers and voters alike. I take it if 'your' side had won, the system would have worked perfectly, right?

QuoteAlso, it never used to take days or weeks to count the votes in an election. It used to happen the same day.

Hey barbie one reason is your lot; They wanted several cross checks and checks on checks to verify that those voting were who they said they were and were eligible to do so. This takes time, throw in that many voting workers quit because of intimidation from the drumpers, thus more work with fewer people means more time needed. You can't have it both ways. You want it accurate or do you want it fast? You don't want machines to count at several 1000 an hour; okay, hand count at a couple of dozen an hour.

Again, you're choosing to attack the method rather than the reason for the result. The reason for the result is most of the electorate don't want drump or his fascists, it really is that simple. You can whine and winge and cry MAGA tears all you want but your 'side' need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Quote from: Dr. MD MD on November 13, 2022, 02:58:13 AMWeird. The price of gad was pretty much stable for Trump's entire term and never flucuated more than a few cents here or there. 🤔

And since then your good friend and mentor Putin invaded a sovereign nation. That put the cost of crude up, but at the same time the big corporations took advantage of it and gouged it deep, to the tune of about 54% of the total increase in inflation. But you knew that, right?

QuoteAlso, do you ever foresee a time when you might also consider the rights of the child to be aborted and not just a  womens reproductive rights, whatever that means?  ???

This is one of those times you give yourself away as not having anything to do with medicine let alone a doctor of it.

But just in case you're new to planet Earth I'll explain why I said reproductive health and not singled out abortion per se: In your utopia all unprotected* sex results in conception and the eventual birth and nurturing of a loved and well cared for child. The gestation period will be uneventful, the foetus will grow as nature intended, pre natal checks through the pregnancy will be optimal right up to give or take 38 weeks.

However; in the REALWORLD™ Several things can happen between the messy first part and the very messy last part. The foetus may not grow with all the parts in the correct place, it maybe ectopic and grow outside the womb (I take it you do know what a womb is?) which if not aborted will kill the mother. She may miscarry** and literally (as my sister in law did) go to the toilet and feel herself passing the foetus. The foetus may die in the womb through lack of oxygen if the umbilical cord doesn't form correctly. The skull may not develop and the brain be exposed.

ALL of the above can and do happen to women carrying a pregnancy. And this is even if the conception is wanted;

Now let's look at the ones that aren't.

A ten year old girl raped by the male members of her family and made pregnant. A forty year old woman who thought she'd never get pregnant again after having her last child when she was 28. The woman raped by her ex husband/boyfriend or a stranger. Contraception that failed.

*No contraception is 100% reliable.

In some of the manifestos of the Christo fascists who were standing as candidates, ALL of the reasons why a conception may not be viable were outlawed as reasons for abortion to a greater or lesser degree. Sure some did say only if the mother's life was at risk, but as in Texas today, ONLY if she was close to death already. And that is a hell of a gamble if sepsis has set in already. Imagine being the obstetrician and a woman turns up and you need to go and call a lawyer to find out if she's close enough to dying before giving an abortion? Legal rather than medical grounds. I'd also add that one of the drugs used for abortions and clearing miscarriages is also used in treatment for arthritis, so if/when that medication is banned for use in some states, the sufferers of arthritis will go without..

**Some of these fascists were proposing having a 'panel' to decide if a woman who claimed a miscarriage did actually have one. A fucking panel! How dystopian are these monsters?

Making abortion illegal won't stop abortions; All it will do is drive it underground and children and women will die as a result.

And to address this further: If the fucking Christo fascists were so 'pro life' how is it they only concern themselves about a foetus up to birth? After birth as far as they're concerned the child is on its own. They don't support child support, they don't think a woman should get any assistance with that. They think school shooter lock down practice is perfectly acceptable in a 'civilised' society that causes trauma and anxiety in children, no wonder some grow up with fucked up brains, they've only ever known being ready for catastrophic violence.

In closing, your 'argument' is less than persuasive.  And by extension, that is one of the reasons why the fascists were voted against. If you need further information, ask a grown up, or maybe a real doctor.

Speaking of B17's.. This commemoration  happened a few years ago. Mi Amigo was a B17 that ran into difficulties. The pilot crash landed into the park to avoid a school. I know this park as I used to live across the road from it. The old guy was a small boy and witnessed the crash, and for years has campaigned to having a proper commemoration.

A couple of flights of USAF aircraft fly past as part of the tribute. The 'lost man' peel off has a female pilot.

Each time I watch this I openly and unashamedly weep. At the bravery, the sheer selflessness of the crew who sacrificed their selves to protect children.

On 20 February 1944 a B-17 bomber (Flying Fortress) which the crew called 'Mi Amigo' was part of the 305th Bombardment Group, US 8th Army Airforce based at Chelveston Airfield in Northamptonshire and 'Mi Amigo' was one of 700 American B-17 bombers involved in Operation Argument.  Operation Argument was an intensive one-week joint operation with RAF bomber command to destroy high value and  heavily defended aircraft factories and Luftwaffe airfields in Alaborg Denmark and Leipzig Germany and the bombers had to run the gauntlet of extensive anti-aircraft artillery and German fighters.  On 22 February there was heavy fog over the Luftwaffe base in Alaborg  and the target could not be seen from the air as the B-17's were being attacked by swarms of German fighters during which three American aircraft were shot down and most of their crews were killed or captured.  Due to the fog and continuous waves of German fighters the mission was aborted; the surviving aircraft began their return to England and once they reached the North Sea, they started jettisoning their bombs.  Mi Amigo had been extensively damaged and there were concerns one or more of its engines would seize up before reaching England, but the crew managed to dump their 4,000 lb bomb load over the sea.   The crew of Mi Amigo According to historian Paul Allonby, Mi Amigo was several miles from its base in England and its engines which had all been damaged were fading quickly as its pilot Lt Kriegshauser steered his crippled B-17 out of thick clouds and found they were over a major city in Sheffield.  As he looked for a suitable field for a crash landing, he could only see houses, roads and trees and then in the distance he saw a large field called Encliffee Park which was a public play area with thick woods behind it.  Lt Kriegshauser prepared his crew for a crash landing and started his final approach when he suddenly  saw a large group of children playing in the field and immediately aborted the landing in the full knowledge his aircraft would crash into the woods.  After crashing the wreckage of the B-17 was scattered across the hillside, the aircraft was split into two and the front section was on fire and the crew were dead.  Several eyewitnesses say the aircraft circled the park for some time and it is believed the pilot sacrificed the lives of himself and his crew to avoid a group of children in the field.

Looking at a still from a video just before the collision it looked like the P63 had flown into a formation to the port side of the B17, but with a lot of energy to scrub off. Maybe it ran wide and couldn't tighten the turn quick enough? Whatever the reason it's a bad loss.

How does it happen? Hmmm.. In short:

The electorate in general decided that they realised inflation and gas prices were not entirely in the control of the POTUS (Never have been), but that aside they (especially women) decided inflation and gas prices fluctuate and they can live with it; but what they can't live with is the taking away of control over their reproductive rights. And the very real possibility of clamp downs on IVF, contraception, inter racial marriage, same sex marriage and the general persecution of anyone who isn't a white male over 65 years old. For all their proclamations of 'freedom' and 'small' government' the MAGA crowd sure go for the control of people and the compliance of same to their way of 'thinking'.

Someone should sit you down and explain how counting works. In some states the incumbent Red legislature forbade the counting of mailed in votes until AFTER the counting of same day vote counts, even though it was possible to do. So what has happened in the case of AZ is the voting workers are working 12-18 hour days to count the votes mailed in. And as long as they're postmarked last tuesday they're eligible to be counted. AZ is a POS state cos your boy didn't win? How shallow can you be?

I know it's a blow to you barbie, but that is how elections work. There is no rule that any one party should win. (Except Russia and Iraq in the past) That's what democracies do, they choose the winners and the losers.

Several years ago I was genuinely upset that John Smith, the then leader of the Labour party in the UK died and was replaced by Tony Blair. In my opinion, Blair was just Thatcher light. I think Smith would have been a much more 'people' PM if he'd won.

Look, dust yourself down, pick yourself up and seek out potential Republican candidates who aren't crazy; who actually defend and support democracy, and don't hero worship one guy who (and you know this) doesn't give a fuck about anyone or ANYTHING but slaking his own ego. Let it go barbie. He's not worth your devotion. He wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.

Quote from: albrecht on November 07, 2022, 06:01:45 PMOur political system, not just elections but especially the Administrative State, has been suspect since certain changes over the many decades. But still, relatively, better than others, despite the changes and pressures they make. Arguably, one could want some more chaotic systems with spot-elections, random changes in government every month it seems, or crazed popular referendums- as some countries, States, or others have. Generally the system, while still somewhat corrupt, it could be for a generally better good? Stability versus massive changes, at least until recently. It could be argued though that idea, especially since the changes and influences, that maintaining, or propping up, a stable system sets itself up for a bigger problem- rather than small faults moving you get the BIG ONE. I don't know.

Okay, I've lived in the States just over six years, through two general elections and a mid term, this will be the second.

The American system is based on money. Are you rich/influential? Yes? Then roll up, we'll get you lobbied. Congress (Especially the Senate)is pretty much a stagnant atrophied edifice that has no incentive to do anything for the people in general. It has been completely out of touch with the demograph of the country, unless you happen to be an octogenarian white millionaire. Just who does Chuck Grassley represent? Land? This is the thing, because each state has two Senators, California or Georgia or Florida or New York State have the same say as Wyoming, which has just over half a million people, fewer than the population of Sacramento. California has nearly 40 Million. Grassley's state Iowa just over 3 million. Yet all three have the same say irrespective of the actual votes cast for any party nationally, even if any piece of legislature doesn't directly effect that state. The big problem is US politicians are not compelled to relinquish their business interests when they take office, they can even game the markets and get no sanctions. Win win. They can (and do!) vote for legislation that will directly benefit them (and the billionaires) personally. Tax breaks for the very rich who could never spend what they already own? Absolutely. Free child care? Free health care at the point of need, bypassing the insurance companies who (and I know this is a shock) are in it for profit not health care. Oh no, that's 'socialism'. Someone explain to me why that isn't perverse.

And there's the other bind, only two parties with (today) diametrically opposing views save for a very few who will compromise, but again in the current climate, unless the Republicans bow to the orange Jesus they're ostracised or worse. Neither party as they stand will represent the population, only their own tribe. It needs at least another one maybe two more parties that drop in the middle.

The average education level of America is low compared with other industrialised countries. Sure, there are some truly brilliant people, but the median nationally isn't high.
And it plays to the advantage of certain politicians, because an uneducated electorate is easy to manipulate, easy to convince. Certain candidates have taken it to a new level and advocated the banning of books in schools, because they're so insecure of their own value it scares them that a kid might read different opinions and arrive at their own rather than that of the bigot dictating what they read. And certain teachers in certain states are leaving, so the self fulfilling prophecy might realise sooner rather than later.

Quotecrazed popular referendums- as some countries

Such as the I think two dozen plus 'props' on the bill for this years election here. They're referendums. Our letterbox has been crammed with the mailing crap.

And if you don't think lying matters; let me remind you about what happened in 2016 in the UK. Boris Johnson, Micheal Gove, Nigel Farage and others pushed the myth that if the UK pulled out of the EU, then fluffy bunnies would skip in the meadows, fluffy clouds would rain liquid gold and Britain would gain respect throughout the world because they were free of the shackles of the EU..

We're in 2022, since then the UK is on it's FORTH PM, the mendacious Johnson long gone and still rich. But what of Brexit? Well, the economy is fucked, you think the inflation in the US is poor, it has a rate that right now the UK would dream of having. And NOT ONE politician that advocated Brexit has even acknowledged that the issues that were predicted by the remainers (and came to pass) have anything to do with Brexit! Delusion isn't even close.

There's a real possibility that the UK will tank it's currency, I don't mean drop to parity with the dollar but really tank. And it could have been avoided, but the liars won. It's what they wanted but they're too cowardly to own it. They essentially forced the deportation of EU citizens who until Brexit had freedom of movement to work and live..Now they've gone, the hospitality industry has no staff to make the beds in hotels, Fruit growers have no-one to help with the harvest. Farmers cannot sell their stock anyway because the paperwork they didn't need in the EU they now do, and so don't have the freedom of transit, miles and miles of trucks at the ports as they wait for custom clearance, supermarket shelves not close to how they were when I left the UK..And it will only get worse. All because of a lie.
