That's lovely, Gravity.  ;)

How many feet of snow do you estimate is there at the moment?

When I was at Kirkwood on Thursday there were piles on the side of the raod that were almost 20' high. Tahoe itself got 40" last weekend but daytime temps in the 50's the last 3 days have caused a lot of it to melt. There are brown patches everywhere in the mountains near the roads. The ski areas still have anywhere from a 10'-20' base. This warm weather is forecast for at least the next week with no chance of rain or snow in the forecast. It is getting down below freezing at night but getting up to the 50's and even 60 during the day. I just walked to dinner in a windbreaker.

I think the snow in the mountains is going to melt fast based on the latest 10 day forecast I saw today. Northstar announced they were extending their season until 4/30 but if they don't get another storm or two I don't think the snow will last. Squaw Valley last week was predicting they would be skiing until July 4th. I don't know if I believe that. But Lake Tahoe is weird. They can get 6-10' of snow at a time if the conditions are right.

I hope California and Nevada can catch as much of the water as possible as it melts.

It's the fast melt they don't want up north.

Bacon anyone? ::)

I loved the Frank Bacon band back in the day. It was summer in the park the last time I went.  Good times.

Years ago I was in Tahoe and it snowed about a foot during the night. But what was so amazing/crazy, to me, is that compared to the DC area or Texas we had no problem coming home from the casinos that night late or getting up and getting to Heavenly the next morning. And we had a house in some random neighborhood. It was weird, for us, though seeing flags on posts marking streets due to snow height from the plow and, drunkenly, breaking out the snowblower at 3am (neighbors I'm sure, were happy about that.) But a few inches hits DC or Texas etc and everyone in panic, grocery stores out, schools/businesses close, nobody can drive, even plows are "snowed in" and delayed, and often, especially in Marion Barry's case, the politicians are away on 'fact-finding' missions in places like the Bahamas. Haha.

ps: though he is nuts on many things Lyndon LaRouche's plan about water capture and massive canal and catchment systems distributing the seasonal flooding in the upper midwest and upper northwest to the parched and drought stricken areas have always held my interest.

October through February showers bring March flowers. An annual trek out to Anza Borrego Desert State Park is de rigueur for San Diegans to see the wildflowers. But been slim pickings (but never flower picking!) for many years. However this year is glorious  8)

Aww. Thanks Sister Starr. As you well know lots of beauty here in California from Gravity's Lake Tahoe photos to desert wildflowers. Hope Gabrielle posts her spring flowers in a few weeks. They were stunning last year
