No, no! Go with it!

*sigh*  Misexpressed or misinterpreted tone on the internets.  The bane of my existence... causing strife between two of my favorite Coastgab posters.  It just won't do.  Gratefully, though, there was reconciliation.  But the scars will remain...

The lovely Usagi, great to see you around again.  I must say, I got a little weak in the knees when I read that you frequented a gaming pub.  One of these days I am going to have buy you that pho we talked about many moons ago.

That tavern sells +2 tater tots (consisting of tater tots covered in chili, cheese, bacon, onions, and olives) which, quite aside from the pleasure of pho, does have it owns merits.

So, Johnny Marr's releasing an album now, eh?

Love the picture of Ian, by the way.  I took this picture in a dirty alley of an otherwise especially gorgeous city once and I found it strangely all the more beautiful...

Which fits perfectly your remark about my nostalgic bent, daddio, because even though your Smiths/Johnny Marr are an oldies group for you, "my" Smiths, actually "Smith", who were a one-hitter cover band, were oldies when Morrissey and Johnny came stylin' into town.

Smith - Baby It's You
I like mine better, mainly because rocker torch songs move me more than Eurocentric skinny-tie torch songs.

This song has been going through my head. My brother introduced me to Warren Haynes and Gov't Mule a while back, and my nephew played this one for me in the car not long ago.

Gov`t mule so weak so strong

These are two of my favourite songs.  Neither performers have what one would call great voices, but they are moving, as are the lyrics. To me, anyway.
I first heard 'Tom Traubert's Blues' on the Basquiat Soundtrack, which has some really great music in general.

Tom Waits - Tom Traubert's Blues - 1977

This piece is transcendent, though because I heard Rufus Wainwright's cover of it first, I am partial to it, with its delicate beauty. Besides, it was part of The O.C. soundtrack.  ;D Speaking of Basquiat, that Jeffrey Wright is one of my favorite actors.

Do you realize, Zen, that today, Led Zeppelin would be brought up on charges of child pornography. The same goes for Richard Branson, for the Virgin logo, not to mention Michelangelo.

Pfffft. Back in 1969 when school was 12 miles uphill both ways, mega-group Blind Faith showed the world what real kiddie porn was on an album cover, nicely covered here....

To this day I cannot imagine what the hell they were thinking.

Scorpion holds the CP album cover record (no pun intended) for Virgin Killer (I won't post an image).

My point exactly, Sar, baby. Not to mention most of the artists of the classical world, with their cherubim, they'd all be locked up as well. This is what happens when the knuckle draggers take over, as they periodically do; the evolved are vilified, given scarlet letters like P for pedophile.

Gratuitous plastering of underage girls on your album cover is a sign of evolution?  Hmm?

For those of you what are old enough to have been there, this is a classic from the great 1980s.

That song sums up life in the 80s--or at least the idealized version--better than any other song of that decade.

Excellent film. Featuring three deaths by shotgun to face, wrong way freeway chase, egregious use of a midget, sapphic overtones and a script declaring Quentin Daly is better than Michael Jordan. And(spoiler alert for a film released on 11/1/85) any film killing it's star with 10 minutes left is always getting a thumbs up in this corner.

I didnt know adam sandler was in wang chung!!???

I've been singing this to myself all morning.  That's a good thing.  Sometimes all you need is a minute and forty-five seconds.

The other day I posted To Live and Die in L.A. and mentioned that it captured that quintessential moment that was the 80s. A number of you said the same. Here is another one that takes me back to those dreamy days. Bonus points if you can spot the later famous stunner in the video. ;-)

Only because I already knew... Denise Richards... I think that is who you mean.

At theof sounding like a grump oldster, I do think contemporary music just does not have the same melodic quality as earlier material.  It seems like more attention was paid to instrumentation as well.  Crap... I guess I'm gettin' old.  Back in my day....  >:(

At first, I thought you meant Renee Richards - I guess I'm still thinking about George in drag from another thread.

Correct. ;-) She was fifteen years old, with that white blonde short hair and the leather jacket. Talk about exquisite...

If I were 16 I would agree. However, at almost 4 times that age... she reminds me of someone not that far away from just learning to walk.
