as a Brit, I had the inestimable pleasure of listening in realtime to John Peel through most of the nineties - he is my Art Bell I guess, tho the two shows are totally different obviously - and i was just wondering what the american perspective is on him?

So, anyways, I did not abandon the CoastGabbers! I was just in Wien for a bit chillin' with the Habsburgs... well, the dead ones, anyway.

I also saw, speak of the devils, the graves of Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Strauss, and even a faux one for Mozart, out there somewhere in a mass-grave.

Wish I was still there... needless to say.

Largely,my exposure to Mr Peel comes via BBC Archive cds, as I read this post, I just so happened to be listening to Fairport Conventions "Best of the BBC" and it includes selections from "Top Gear" episodes from 1968-74. He seemed to be way ahead of the curve of knowing what would be cool.
