Podcasts seem to work VERY well on my iPhone.

I am using the default podcast app. Does anyone have any experience using any other podcasts apps for the iPhone and if they are advantageous to the default app?

Thanks to SBAustin for this. He will forever be in the folklore of BellGab.

I tired a lot of them , Downcast is my favorite mainly because it remembers where you stop listening to a particular podcast even when switching to another episode. It also has a lot a features like skip ahead and skip back. Lots of other things too.

try pasting it into the Safari browser or just click on the link. If you do it that way it should open the IOS podcast app, but it will ask you for your use rid and pw twice.

I did it both ways on my iPhone 6 and iPod 2 (both are running 8.4)

Yup. that worked fine. Seemed to require the safari step to get the attention of the podcast app. Thanks for the clarification.

Copy the link to the clipboard.  Paste it in the little area that says "Search my Podcasts". It will ask if you want to subscribe.  Say yes and it will ask for your dark mater use rid and password.

I did just that. It does not recognize the link. Are we talking IOs implementation here or something else?

At the risk of being redundant, Downcast is a much cleaner way to go. It actually works, unlike some of the things I have tried recently. DMDN or the rss feed address are not recognizable in Itunes or their lame ass podcast app. Similarly VLC is a no go in IOs. Perhaps I am inept, but gee, why shoud you have to be ept to pull this off?

If you're using an iPhone or an iPad you can go to My Podcasts and paste/enter the RSS feed into the Search field on My Podcasts and you'll be asked for your DMDN/MITD credentials and that will automatically subscribe you to the feed.

The RSS feed is a HUGE win for Team Art Bell.  Nice job Mr. Rowland.

This does not work as explained here.

using vlc for podcasts: http://www.howtogeek.com/173222/10-useful-features-hidden-in-vlc-the-swiss-army-knife-of-media-players/
basically open vlc , click view then playlists (or ctrl +l -lower case L) .
scroll down the left side until you get to podcasts
hover over podcasts until a + appears, then click the +
enter the url ( http://rss.darkmatterdigitalnetwork.com/mitd/ ) then enter
enter your details then enter
your podcasts will now show up under "Dark Matter Digital Network >> Midnight In the Desert"

Cant figure it out in IOs land. Downcast works more easily.

These links may not work for all browsers on your PC, they are to be used in your podcast player.  Enter them there. However in some browsers and in some mobile situations, like IOS devices, clicking this in the browser will transfer to the podcast app automatically. But you need to know a little about RSS feeds to use this with a podcast player. You can also enter this URL in iTunes and it will subscribe.

So this is why you are a beta tester, you report what works and what doesn't. Thank You!

This has saved an immense amount of fooling around.

Thanks again. I would send flowers, but that would be weird.

It worked fine with Downcast on Iphone. Spectacular. No issues at all. One ~ 50 meg file for each night.

Thanks Keith and the other guy ...

No it's not odd, I wanted people to know who booked it, It was David Rubini, not Redacted. Even though
Rubini hated it I had a blast frankly. (Rubini thought I was mean to Jon)

Art

Shame on you  :o

Even if the Skype had some hardware issue, what about the emergency backup number Art tried to reach Stephen Bassett?
Why didn't he pickup that emergency phone call if he was waiting there at the time?

What we need is full Disclosure. We arent getting that now

If you are the real Stephen Basset, thank you for coming here to tell us what happened. Have you contacted Art directly to explain it to him?

It is the real guy alright. There is a need for clarification, and at this point, a joint statement would clear it up Silence only promotes wild speculation and wrong ideas. I am glad Art put his side in writing and Steven put his side in writing. They obviously are different versions of the same event. Personally, I believe both of them, so there is a missing piece. Hopefully that will be revealed. It does serve a purpose to do this, namely faith in the people we are hearing.

I would like to withdraw all previous comments I made about Bassett not being on. There are things that simply don't add up, and I think he may not be at fault.

Without going through iTunes, what is the best way to download the archives and listen to them on an iPhone? I am looking for an easy process as I will want to do this every night. Has anyone had any luck?

THe Mercury browser for IOs will allow you to save the file. Once the file is saved, it can be imported to Downcast. Its a bit of a pain, but it works. Downcast is the best playback software I have come across because it remembers where you were, and the people that authored it, support it, and actually answer inquiries.

If people don't like it, why don't they write their own website and app and provide it to Keith Art? With the knowledge of everyone here, I bet they can create something better in about 20 minutes.

Yes, and solve the JFK mystery, provide bones of Jimmy Hoffa, and even a few bits of the crashed Roswell saucer.........

Wow, what a collection of armchair quarterbacks.

I dont have any issues with anything that has been done. Everything works, most of the time, the price is right.  I think what some people don't realize is that the whole MITD thing is a labor of love first, not economics or technology. Sure, there are things that could be better, but in the end who really cares. You can listen to AB for free, download podcasts, etc. Making useful suggestions is a good thing, bitching about how things are not the way you would do it is counterproductive and hurtful to people that have given a lot of themselves to make this all possible.

Actually I do....

$5.00/mo or $60.00/yr is the price of most podcast subscriptions: Wells, Rense, Coast, Jones to name a couple. Some even offer streaming video archives for that price in addition to streaming audio archives. Others like Cllyde Lewis offer RSS feeds for archived shows free. That is a comparable market.

Bull shit. Those are not comparable. You obviously have no clue , thinking with your freaking wallet. Go listen to Dave.

Im in the US, I like Australians. I like it when people call and tell Art they are glad he is on. I am glad Art is on.

So, all the stupid fucks that dont like this , go listen to Dave. Stop bitching.

i really hope this isn't the reason.

Me too, seems somewhat irrational. I know JB Wells does the same sort of thing with his podcasts, which is very annoying for the few I want to listen to. Seems like username/password gate should be able to keep out all but the hardcore.

The daily ritual of downloading the files and importing them into my app of choice is getting old.

Bless you good brother.

For those not tech savvy it's not a whiny demand, it's the norm for today's podcast world.

I think the reason for no RSS feed is to minimize piracy. Dont know this for a fact, but its the only thing that makes sense to me.

Sorry to break this to you, animals are not smart enough to stay off my plate.  Humans are generally too smart and fatty to change places with them.

Dont sell the animals short, after humanity all but destroys itself, they will gang up and eat the rest of us, thus getting the last laugh.

Animals aren't intelligent and cannot solve problems. We can. If motivated we can go to the moon, a bear cannot. Kids already are a liability in every wealthy society on the planet. In a society like ours it takes roughly a million dollars to raise a kid and put them through college, thus the stable replacement only birth rate of the US. As it gets more expensive, such as in Europe, you begin to see negative birth rates and eventually apocalyptic birth drops as in Japan. This will happen to China and India too as their economies grow.

Intervention translates to eugenics, such as India's failed program of population control. They basically targeted the poor women of India and required sterilization for all sorts of things, even licenses to operate rickshaws required sterilization. All at the behest of western governments that held aid money hostage in return for population control. It was one of the great crimes against humanity of the 20th century, despite the media ignoring it. No need for intervention, populations naturally control themselves in a technological civilization and we're nowhere close to exceeding the carrying capacity of the planet.

We've been through this before nearly 200 years ago when Thomas Malthus wrote a book predicting mass starvation--better known as a Malthusian correction--that everyone went apeshit over. It never happened, but not before he scared the shit out of people and affected public policy. The Irish potato famine, for example, wouldn't have happened if the British government had sent food. They didn't send food because the PM at the time felt that Ireland was simply overpopulated and needed a correction. Malthus failed to account for technological advancement in food transportation and agriculture and disaster was averted. We're in a similar boat. We're in no danger, many of Ehrlich's predictions have already shown themselves to be erroneous since he started the population scare 40 years ago.

Now this is a problem. Automation over the next 50 years is going to put the human race out of work, meaning that our economic model is going to go obsolete. It probably already is obsolete. We'll come up with something new, I'm sure, but it's probably going to be painful as the old system clings on for dear life.

Well, we'll probably become some sort of quasi-libertarian technocracy rather than a one world government. People just don't want it, and it's a terrible idea. The more local you can make government the better it works. The rise of superintelligence may actually allow a true democracy to  work for the first time in human history.

Depends on which teachers you ask. If you ask the environmental scientists, you'll get a scary answer. If you go into the physics or engineering departments you'll get solutions to the problems.

. Sorry to break this to you, animals are extremely intelligent. Humans are generally too stupid and full of themselves to realize this.

Nothing new here..The company I used to work for would do the same. Pretty sad they would reach out to the engineers to get us to call in because they had used all of their producers-editors up as voices. Listeners-viewers are not so gullible. I however would not participate, as it seemed somewhat wrong. I worked for one of the BIG three for a lot of years.

News to me bro. Didnt think sleaze has reached this level
