Anyone mention "Human Centipede"?  A very disturbing film, difficult to sit through after a while.

I think that's the movie that finally killed the "torture porn" genre. Just gratuitous. Nothing clever at all about it. Saw, on the other hand, was a pretty well-crafted movie. Even Hostel looks like Citizen Kane next to Human Centipede.

After reading the synopsis, there is no way I'm watching that. Jesus Christ.

I could give these a shot.

Have you seen The Descent? "Best thriller since Alien" is not inaccurate.

Horrorfest offered "8 movies to die for" starting in 2006. Some are worth watching; others not so much. Here's a wiki link for film titles.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/After_Dark_Horrorfest

I did see the Descent and would add that to my list, too. Have you seen the sequel? About what you would expect and it looks like there may be a third.

Speaking of Neil Marshall movies- have you seen Doomsday?

"Attack of the squiggly tape" was scary to me when I was a kid. Also nothing beat the original Salems Lot.

Good ghost story movies- The Awakening, Stir of Echoes, Hide and Seek.

I forgot to mention-Lady in White a mystery as well as ghost story. I think even Dave has mentioned this on on his show.  ;)

Good older movies- Burnt Offerings and The Sentinel.

I FF'd through most of the movie pleading for someone to help that girl.  :( :'(

I enjoyed the 1999 remake of House on Haunted Hill, at least the first 3/4 of it. The ending blows.

is that cassinova frankenstein?

trostol

my saturday night so far will consist of the following movies

the Crow-yearly watch for me
Plan 9 from outer space
The Burbs

Here's one that may not have been heard of:
Wolf Creek (2005) - not for the faint of heart. This is a stalking, mutilation film set in the outback of Australia and loosely based on actual events.

Although he did go on to marry a model and get a half billion for doing a radio $how 1-4 days a week ;D

But he did have to endure this phase before that could occur.

The Legend of Hell House 1973 is a good one, too.

Come on now, there have been some decent horror movies on Netflix and Hulu over the last few years.

Alien: Hangar 10, The Fourth Kind, Dark Skies, Extraterrestrial, Honeymoon

Supernatural: Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, The Innkeepers, Babadook, Oculus, Grave Encounters, Chasing the Devil

Creature: Devil's Pass, Frankenstein Theory, Ragnarok, Black Water, Cabin in the Woods

Funny: Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Hatchet II, Trollhunter, A Haunted House, Key and Peele: Scariest Movie Ever

Fucked up: VHS 2, Human Centipede II, Poultrygeist

Not all of them are gonna win awards, but at least worth a watch on a slow night.

Audition is just the beginning of that shit. The one at the very end of the rabbit hole is August Underground, which I wouldn't even recommend Googling. I won't watch it.

Thank you for planting that in my brain. Watched the trailers. It seems nice enough, but I must say that some of the characters in the film are being very rude to the other characters. Actually, they don't seem to be considering their feelings at all.

I don't like it when people are rude like that.  I guess I'll take the necessary steps to watch it. I believe all people can turn their lives around and stop being rude.  I'm expecting a pleasant, and redeeming ending.

Thanks.

You may want to wait for the remake with Anne Hathaway.

This is very hard for me since I LOVE horror movies of all kinds.  I can't even remember all that I've seen throughout the years.  There are some that I'm 'wowed' by, but after time passes I'm not as interested in them.  My list consists of the movies that made a lasting impact.  Pretty much the old standards I guess.

1 - Halloween
2 - Night of the Living Dead
3 - The Exorcist
4 - Salem's Lot
5 - The Thing

SaucyRossy

So being that Samhain isn't till November 4th, I continue watching horror related movies well after Halloween. I'm gonna post some recommendations for some films some of you may not of heard of.

https://youtu.be/6SOur3WwZvM
House of the devil - This is a slow burn retro throwback. I personally love it. It might be a hit or miss for some people, but the people that do like it are like me and end up loving it.

http://youtu.be/QqDZFMArLjI
The Sacrament - directed by the same guy who made house of the devil, this is pretty great, less said the better.

http://youtu.be/EmIQFcPXLXA
A girl walks home alone at night - this is an Iranian vampire western, not much horror in it but if you're feeling adventurous and want to watch something you'd never see in the theaters, give it a shot.

http://youtu.be/IAZEWtyhpes
What we do in the shadows - far more of a comedy than horror but it's too great to not include on the list, made by most of the people behind flight of the conchords.

http://youtu.be/UX9S3hdgZ5g
Dog Soldiers - my favorite monsters werewolves shine in this totally awesome indie horror classic, with great actors who are in ton of big films and tv shows now, if you've never seen this, see it.

No XTRO ?

Scared the crap out of me as a kid. It's also a completely nihilistic movie. George Drooly must have loved it.

I think there are a number of good werewolf movies as well:
American Werewolf in London
The Howling
Silver Bullet
Streiber's the Wolfen

The monster in the crate story from Creepshow scared me when I was young.

As zeebo and ItsOver could easily guess... Traditionally, for Halloween, I view Phantasm 1 through 4, Bubba Ho-Tep, and Coscarelli's more obscure Kenny & Company.

(I view "Otis" in Kenny & Company as a subconscious precursor effigy of The Tall Man and the popcorn balls as omen mirror images of the flying sphere.  You just have to see it.  It's difficult to put into words, but those and other parallels resonate on screen.)

This year, I delayed that ritual due to the ongoing Dark Shadows marathon on Decades TV.  FYI: While Jägermeister goes exceptionally well with Dark Shadows, Coscarelli's work will call for generous amounts of tequila.

Thus, Halloween festivities will definitely be extended well into the week to accommodate Coscarelli's vision.

All Hail Camazotz Automat.  I'm disappointed "Phantasm V" wasn't released this year for Halloween.  Sometime now in 2016, I understand?

Since Jim Jones comes up occasionally on BellGab, of course, Powers Boothe does an excellent job with 'Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones."

"Come to me my babies. Let me quell your pain."

Real life horror.

Worse, so many supported him in his weirdness, especially in a certain Party (some of whom are still around mucking things up today.)
ps: Kool-Aid gets a bad name from him. It was Flavor Aid. (And I wonder if they, somehow, were behind the negative marketing, then again "all publicity is good publicity," of the 'drinking the Kool-Aid' phrase?)

Quatermass and the Pit
The Haunting of Hill House (the original)
Death Dreams
The Norliss Tapes (tv movie)
Don't Look Now
The Wicker Man (original)

My top 5 seems to change from time to time but Angel Heart (horror thriller) is always in there.
Angel Heart was memorably good.  I also found The Believers surprisingly effective, creepy-mood-over-the-top-Santeria-wise.

Some of the old "made for tv" movies were actually pretty scary (as I remember.) I revisited some on Youtube and surprisingly still good (get over the quality of film and sound- it aint HD but good enough especially if you watch on your phone.) Why don't they make them anymore? Production costs? Change of attitude/attention spans? Bring back Monday Night Movie and mini-serieses etc!

A couple of creepy movies I like to add, both starring Anthony Hopkins:
"Audrey Rose" (gets bad reviews, but I don't know why, creeped me out when I first saw.)
"Magic" (what not to like; Burgess Meredith, Hopkins, and....)

And for slasher fans, though I usually save for Christmas time, the classic
"Black Christmas"

Hell yeah, that was really cool. Who could forget drunken "Wilma", Hal Holbrook's wife in the story. She was scary as well.  At least I think her name was Wilma.. Whatever her name was, things kind of went south for her in the story.. Yikes.

And ya know, I never got around to Xtro.  I have access to it. I shall check it out :)

Magic is my all time favorite. Audrey Rose was great. The 70's horrors had a way of setting the mood. I actually think it has something to do with the overall LOOK of the films. The cinematography perhaps..

I can't praise PENNY DREADFUL enough. If you like hammer
Horror. This show feels like a modern spiritual successor to hammer horror. Some of the most beautiful cinematography I have ever seen on a film or tv show, and so much gothic horror goodness it will make you want to eschew technology and live by candle light. I love this series.

Let's reboot this and get some energy.   8)

In no particular order:

The Exorcist
Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead
House of a 1000 Corpses
Devil's Rejects
Demons
Phantasm
Halloween
Salem's Lot
Prince of Darkness
The Thing
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Friday the 13th
Hellraiser
The Hills Have Eyes
Event Horizon
Last House on the Left

Halloween is my all time favorite horror movie.  The Exorcist is #2.  I love the horror genre in general and it's hard to delineate my reasons why I hold certain movies in a high regard.  I have a great fondness for the old-time movies too, such as Frankenstein, Dracula, et al.

I thought the movie Race With The Devil was pretty scary..especially since it’s turned out to be more reflective of the truth than not.  ;)

Also, and I know this will get critiqued from the right but I thought Hostel was a genuinely scary movie...again, especially since we now know that many of the leftist elites seem to get their kicks that way.  :o

Speaking of "Night of the Living Dead," catch it on the big screen next week, 50th anniversary.  Great list, Shay.
