February 22, 2009, 12:11:41 AM

I can't decide if this is depressing, or hilarious.

Art's show on Friday/Saturday was just plain SCARY.  And, while I know part of Art's art is over doing things for the entertainment value - in this case I got the feeling he was being quite sincere.

What do you all think of the Guest's take on the economy?   As Art said, Michael J. Panzner isn't exactly your loony-fringe type.

CHINA!

No shit gang, I did a search for George Noory on YouKu or http://www.youku.com/  AKA: YouTube

! Private video

Original context:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD3EbA7qLVU&hl=zh-CN#hq      From:  http://www.google.cn/

Don't ask why - it's late - I'm punchy - I got hormones - what can I say?

BTW - George actually notices, in this clip - that he can't talk.  It's kinda interesting - that brief moment of self-awareness.

Struck me as just plain ODD.  But - it's a spoof fo some sort - we may have discussed this here before 0- but did we have the audio?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liKV4Ij8LtU#hq

And - the poster offered this as "evidence of credibility": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:FreemanJobLetter.jpg

Okay - I may have asked this before - but - can somone explain the joke?

I get lost in the gamer culture -- my living crib sheet (my son) lives a few miles away now instead of in the next room - so -- I can't just walk down the hall and say WTF?  (and he's not logged into AIM)

I actually AGREE with GEORGE!

This salmonella in peanut products - which the company (companies?) knew about for TWO YEARS and went lab-shopping till they found one that wold clear them - THEN never bothered to clean the equipment before proceeding - is a CRIME.

We all know that KIDS love peanut butter. It's commonly part of snacks given at daycare, school and afterschool.  Children are even more vulnerable than adults to salmonella infection.

The people responsible for this decision should be in jail.

Negligent homicide - or whatever the charge for doing something you know could harm that results in death.

This tainted peanut meal has also been used in military food prep.

Take a look here for the list of recalls:  http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/peanutbutterrecall/index.cfm

Archive of Old Threads / It's below ZERO here
January 16, 2009, 12:27:31 PM
And I think this board is a bit "frozen" as well.  Not a lot of activity over the past couple of days.

The cold is getting to us all here -- thankfully -- MY building has the oil tank in the basement.  The townhouse buildings, though, have external oil tanks. This morning, the oil in them was the consistency of butter.  People got up to go to work - no hot water for showers!  The oil company had to come out and dump some additional toxic sludge into the tanks as an antifreeze.

Despite Spike Girl telling me she'd love to live in my area if it were not for the "ten months of winter" -- it's really NOT that bad.  Serious winter (as in ice storms, below freezing weather and such) only averages about three months here.  Though, since it is New England, there is sometimes a weird fluke. (Ever had to pull a wool sweater over a sunburn?) It usually starts in January and shows signs of giving up in April.

Anyway - all that babble aside - I'm going to have to start giving contemporary history lessons if you guys don't' come up with some juicy posts.

Here is the first:

Boston used to refer to their public transit system (colloquially) as "The L" -- most of the trains were not underground, but on tracks "eLavated" over the city.  Many still are. Then, it became the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) and was improved and expanded.   During that time - there was this weird fare system. You got on, paid the basic price, and then if you staid on the train beyond whatever boundary they'd set for the fare increase, you had to pay another fee getting OFF.

There were endless jokes about what would happen if you went beyond the increase point on the line and then could not, or would not, pay. The Kingston Trio even had a hit song about it - which, while it was a national hit - has references  it that would be most funny to someone who actually dealt with the (later MBTA) system on a regular basis. The not-so-subtle reference to the politics of the Irish Mob (who did and do run Boston) still tickles me.

Here tiz - just as I knew it then:

BTW - in this recording, the lead singer messes up the lyrics.  The mobster ref is usualy "George O'Brian"  (I don't think he was an actual person - just a general ref) NOT "Charlie" -- "Charlie" was the guy stuck on the train.  They were likely lip synching - but the original vid. feed was live.  You can see the singer roll his eyes at the mistake.  ;D

Well, my grad ap is in - and all the recommendation request forms have gone out.  I pushed that last button.  (I did it all online, as only seemed right for a program that focuses, partly, on distance learning)

This is what I'm shooting for:  http://www.umass.edu/education/academics/tecs/ed_tech.shtml

If you are into prayer, rain dances, magical charms or any method of positive energy creation and sending - I'd sure appreciate it.  I HATED pushing that last submit button.   Now that it's gone - I'm sure I fucked something up - but that's me.  I'd think that if God herself had done 1/2 the work for me.

I'm cooking for a family supper later today, so I thought I'd share this.  PHEW!  I washed my hands, but they still reek of GARLIC!

Pork Tenderloin Florentine:  (BTW - if you don't do pork, you can do something very similar with whole, boneless, skinless chicken breast.  It cooks a bit faster - so you'll have to keep an eye on it.)

Two pork tenderloins

Two small boxes or one large bag frozen leaf spinach (chopped is okay - IF you want to use fresh - wilt it either in a steamer or with a quick stir fry - otherwise - the flavor will be overpowering)

One head of garlic

Fresh ground pepper

Salt

Your favorite Italian herbs (I use a mixture of dried herbs in a grinder - a bit more flavorful that way)

Italian dressing (whatever kind you like)

A Roman Pot (clay cooking pot) Soaked in water for an hour or more. (If you don't  have one, you can improvise any covered way of cooking these - but you may have to adjust time and temperature - and be more careful of burning.  Roman pot cooking takes a little longer - and has to start in a cold oven)

Butterfly the tenderloins, and use a meat hammer to flatten them to less than an inch thick.

Spread thawed spinach over the butterflied and flattened pork tenderloin.

Stagger the pealed whole cloves from 1/2 half a head of garlic down the length of the spinach layer.

Add herbs, fresh ground pepper, and a little salt.

Roll the loin up  (starting with the narrow end and rolling along the length - you want something that looks a bit like a fat jelly roll)

Baste the roll lightly with Italian dressing - and place it in the pot seam side down.

Repeat with second tenderloin. - cover the pot with the clay cover -which should ALSO have been soaked in water.

Place clay pot high in a cold oven (clay pots can crack from rapid changes in temperature) and turn the temp to between 350 - 400 degrees.

Start checking the internal temp of the roll in about 1 1/2 hours - the temp should be about 160 - 170 degrees. (F)  One of the glories of Roman Pot cooking is that unless you allow the pot, which water- saturated clay with juices from cooking -to go completely dry -  you're unlikely to burn the food.

When the pork is done - remove the pot form the oven, and place it on a towel or a slightly warm surface.  Again - putting it on a cold tile surface may cause the pot to crack from rapid temperature change.

Allow the meat to sit in the pot for 10 to 15 minutes (more is okay) so it will begin to reabsorb some of the juices as it cools.

Slice the pork so that you have a meat & spinach spiral.

I know these directions are vague - but I'm a seat of my pants cook.

If you try it, let me know what you think.

Ev

PS:  You can add toasted pine nuts to the spinach - but my gang doesn't care for that much.

This is the prof for the class I'm doing the last lap for now - and the last b4 I get the DAMMED BA!  LOL!

I gotta say this video cracked me up.  While it is true that, in one way, Sut Jhally is a "rock star" professor - he had to film his lectures and put them on line because there simply was no room big enough - and many student adore him - he just not, on a personal level, as imposing as this would have you bleive. I mean - when the guy notices all the 20-soemthings hanging on his every breath - he gets all bashful and starts to GIGGLE for the love of god!

Stitll - he is brilliant - and I'm delighted ot have taken one of his classes.  I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Anyway - some communcations & film major had fun doing this:

And c2c - with their usual (current) lack of quality is allowing the pic to stand as if it actually means something.

Here is part of what the site the pic originates from has to say:

=====
Dinosaur Adventure Land (operated by Kent Hovind) has a "Creation Museum"  displaying what is claimed to be a "thigh bone from the 13 foot man" (right [1]).  The bone is leaning against the right side of the case.

For some holiday "fun" gifts - I ordered what I THOUGHT were five, tiny, five-piece "nativity scene" rubber ducky sets.  HOLLY DUCK!  I got ten, medium-sized ('bout three inches per duck) six-piece sets!

Forgive the bad pic - I used my scanner.

Now I have to think of people to give them to who WILL be amused and WON'T be offended by a fowl Baby Jesus!

BTW - the fluffy white one is a lamb - not an angel.

Please?

I have a laptop with Windows XP.  It seems to think (it may be right) that I set an admin password.  I haven't had time to set it up since i got it so have not used it much. There is noting on it I need to save.

It DOES NOT like my ideas for what the password could have been, and I've run out of guesses. ADMIN is the only acount on the system.

Now, it owud seem that if I stuck in the XP recovery CD - I coud start fresh, right?

No dice - the fucker is still asking me for the Admin password (and this DOES NOT look like a bios password - it's on the regular WinXP GUY welcome screen)

I called OIT at school/work.  They said they coud fix it IF I have proof of ownership.  HUH?  I don't kinow where ANYTHING is right now!  And bisides - sinc ethis is a grant item - I'm not sure if *I* am the owner - it could be the State of Massachusetts.

I'm been googling my brains out.  Everything I fond looks as if either it will not work (becuae there is no secdond account set up) OR is asking for $ for sometrhing that looks dodgy.

What to do what to do?

Archive of Old Threads / And then the Fight Started . . .
December 09, 2008, 07:30:36 PM
I imagine you've all heard the jokes - they all have the same punch line, which just happens to be the same as the title of this thread.

How many do we know?  Can we make up some new ones?  Try to think of one with a Chinaman for Mordred.

Here is my first installment:

I rear-ended a car this morning. So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car. You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed and little things just seem funny? Yeah, well I couldn't believe it... he was a DWARF!!! He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, 'I AM NOT HAPPY!'

So, I looked down at him and said, 'Well, then which one are you?'

And then the fight started...
