I love Phil Spector's Christmas album! One of my faves ever. Chris Isaak also has one too.

Thanks aldous- that brings back memories.  :)

Remember the Andy William's Christmas Specials?

And also the Carpenters, the Osmonds, and later the Mandrell Sisters having Christmas Specials (I want to say sponsored by, or at least featured, Crisco? Or was that Loretta Lynn who did those?)
The specials these days pretty much suck.

I love Christmas music, but 'm silly and also love to watch Scrooged every year.

I found this on the cake wrecks site. I just want to say "Merry Christmas, Hanukkah peeps!"

Oh how sweet, thanks!

Here's an old Hanukkah tune!  8)

Beware the Kallikantzaroi- creatures from a Greek legend.

Have never heard of the Kalikantzaroi.  Violent little buggers arent they?  Thanks for the warning.  I'll be sure to burn incense come December 25.  :)

I suspect it's from working hard all those months and having it all undone while they're on vacation.  ;)

That's a new one on me as well, and it might explain why Pastafarians wear colanders on their heads. I have a friend who's an official clergyperson in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, so I'll have to ask her about that.

This thread is great fun, pye!  Thanks!

Here's one I grew up with, and which became a Christmas classic on local kiddie shows for three decades, although nobody has ever been able to explain why.  Cheers!

You are so welcome, RGG- I'm just happy that everyone is having a good time. Thanks for sharing the video- I've never seen that one before.  :)

My second favorite on the Phil Spector Christmas Album

I agree with Juan regarding the best Christmas song ever. Wonder if I could do a Christmas themed Velvet Heaven? I'm going to work on that!

A clever and easy way to make a custom Christmas garland- you can go for a country look or Victorian or change the color scheme for Chaunnika.

Great thread, pye. Thanks and Yuletide greetings!

Sunday is St. Lucy's Day, celebrated in Sweden and much of Scandinavia as a secularized, light-in-the-darkness sort of holiday, with some beautiful sentiments.  The season is still called "Jul", or Yule, there for reasons that have been lost to time, though one of the names of Odinn has been suggested.  Here is one of the most popular songs, a translation I think is mostly accurate:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_gvPdsNxe8

Jul, Jul, shining Jul,
Glows over white forests,
Heavens are crowned with glittering lights,
Glimmering ribbons in the houses of God;
Songs that are sung from age to age,
Eternal longing for light and peace.
Jul, Jul, shining Jul,
Glows over white forests.

Come, come, sacred Jul,
Lower your white wings
Over the strife's blood and alarms,
Over the sighs of mankind,
Over the generations who go to their rest,
Over the young whose days hurry past.
Come, come, sacred Jul,
Lower your white wings.

Today we're making the saffron buns called lussekatter whose golden extravagance (put all the saffron you can afford in them!) and mysterious shapes are full of symbolism.  The saffron flavor is strongest if you make them a day or two early and store in a plastic bag.

I always watch Santa Claus Conquers The Martians - clearly the worst movie ever made.  Here's the trailer

I'm the one who should be thanking all of you for making this a fun place to visit. A happy Yule to you too, UC and to the whole vaguely loveable bellgab family.  :-*

We all watch The Hogfather on Christmas Eve at my house.

I like fudge with nuts.  My daughters prefer it without.  Whew, missed that land mine.
