Holy Shit! NYPD and most depts that's a huge deal. NYPD when I was there, 1980's -90's miss placing, losing, leaving ur firearm was a 10 day rip. That's almost half the 30 days vac for 5 yr max vet. As a rookie on probation for 12mos when I was there 6 in the Academy 6 on the street, u were most likely fired. Charges and Specifactions and u went directly to the trial room see ya buh bye! (BTW, loss of shield and or ID card an immediate Command Discipline & was 5 to 10 day rip as well, lose the gun and shield and ID, even if u were stuck up at gun point...see ya!  Now probation is longer at 18mos.

We were taught, even if u had your rig, gun belt...and this is a great tip for male and or females, cops or for even Concealed Carry permit holderd today, this may sound funny but I am as serious as a heart attack...TAKE YOUR GUN AND WHEN YOU PULL DOWN YOUR PANTS AT UR ANKLES AND SIT ON THE TOILET BOWL REMOVE UR WEAPON AND PLACE IT INSIDE YOUR UNDERWEAR PANTS ETC. SO WHEN U ARE DONE AND MOST STAND UP, PICK UP AND PUT ON UR PANTS, DRESS UNIFORM OR NOT... EVEN IF U FORGET THE GUN IS THERE YOU WILL CERTAINLY REMEMBER WHEN AFIXING YOUR PANTS, DRESS ETC.
This is just one tip among many that is hammered into us from a police dept that has been doing somethings tried and true since 1664. Tradition.
But to have the Top Person have this happen is a joke. That weapon needs to be an appendage that u will instantly know it isn't there before it ever happens.

She should have disciplined herself the same way she would have if it happened to one of her deputy's. Even if she runs a Dept that there would not be and action taken, (and there certainly should be in there partol guide, rules and regulations or whatever they call it.) Because if it happens to a member of the force, how can she not place it, at the minimum on their personell record??? She well accept an apology for the incident? No accountability. Terribe, just unacceptable, totally unstat.

I wonder how many really understand the meaning behind the day. Marketing promos to bring in the dollars make the day look celebratory and God forbid the schools teach about it.  If it doesn't take people to their happy place, it's swept under the rug and ignored. Pitiful. 

In my situation with many family members who've served this Great Nation and have volunteered for the USO, it can be any day of the week and I would thank them for serving. I believe we should NEVER forget.  Benghazi and that whole travesty is something I hope unfolds with arrests and convictions.  Today is the day we learned that certain BellGab members served in the Military. I learned of a few previous to today and I believe that acknowledgement is worthy at any day....

It is, somewhat, tiring considering how they all seem to be confused, marketed for, etc by politicians, media, companies, and so on. But nothing compared to the service of the people involved. I also forgot to mention M.I.A.s and P.O.W.s  which should also always be included and thought ofand their families which, in some ways, is worse not knowing fate of their loved ones. And those who die or suffer later from injuries, sometimes by their own hand, due to injuries, physical and mental, due to their service and often ignored by the government and people. And their families who have to deal with a lot after service or campaign is over.
