And none of you rat-bastards need dare ask... the answer is NO! They are mine, mine, ALL MINE! I keep them in an ornately carved wooden chest, beneath my bed, containing my small, yet surprisingly comprehensive, collection of disgusting things. I bring them out only on special occasions, such as MV's birthday or the rare, fleeting opportunity Sweet Kathy might have to chance an afternoon away from the Beast for some sweet, gentle loving.

P.S. Her safe word is, "OUCH! Stop it you fucker! That really fucking hurts!"

This post contains at least two insulting imputations. Needless to say I want the fucker banned.

First, I object to nude photos of myself being referred to as "disgusting", when they is clearly beautiful and artistic like.

Second, I object to the use of the word "small" in connection with said photos. It's not my fault his studio was poorly heated.

Political correctness is good manners?

At its root, it's about respect for other people, particularly those who might be in a vulnerable positions in society. It can be misinterpreted, sure. People can be over-zealous in its application. I don't think there is any argument about the need for it, though, if we regard political correctness as simply being about the mutual toleration of other people. Too many use "political correctness" as a way of avoiding giving any more serious thought to a subject, particularly ignorant people who struggle with coherent thought. Suggest any idea that might threaten a complacent majority and people shout "political correctness" almost instinctively, without even considering the subject under discussion.

Which brings me to this:

Quote from: pyewacket on September 22, 2015, 12:21:30 PM
Well I'm sure there are more people who are happy that Spencer Stone, Alek Skarlatos, and Anthony Sadler took action on that French train instead of bowing to political correctness. After all, the gunman was just acting out on his precious beliefs and ideology.

I have read many of your posts in the past, and you are obviously a very thoughtful person. You made a very silly remark here, though. This was all about stopping a criminal act. If someone as smart as you can get so confused it troubles me what the rest of you are thinking. There is no question of "political correctness", when it's a clear case of breaking the law. You must know that?

Quote from: pyewacket on September 22, 2015, 12:21:30 PM
I can only guess by news stories how PC is regarded across the pond, but in the US, failure to assimilate can cost you your career and much more. We have to examine each word we choose carefully because it may be offensive or be a form of micro aggression to one or more perpetually aggrieved groups.

A lot of this is exaggerated. Like most of us, you probably base this view on what you read in the media. The older I get, the less I tend to believe. I won't say that all I believe in the newspapers these days is the date, but it gets pretty bloody close sometimes. I was close to a very famous murder case here a long time ago (close in the sense of living not far away, I hasten to add!), and I was amazed at the latitude the press used to describe details, even quite important ones. Their use of cliche was unbelievable, and it was as though they had already decided on what they were going to say before they had had a chance to verify it. Whenever I get the chance, I try to find out what is actually at the bottom of a story in the news. Quite often the reality is very different to the novelization you are fed by the press. They are interested in a story that grabs, not a story that is all that accurate, and it is important to bear that in mind when forming your opinions on all this stuff. I think this tendency just gets worse as reporting gets shallower with the 24-hour mania there is these days.

Quote from: pyewacket on September 22, 2015, 12:21:30 PM
Political correctness is a most effective tool for shutting people up or having them removed. I think the old communist systems may have called it by another name, but as the saying goes- a rose by any other name...

People are often timid, not to mention inarticulate, and get very defensive at times, when they should be bold and try to explain what they mean. But, at the same time, when people are being stupid and offensive to work colleagues, for example, why should people respect that? Particularly in a work environment, you have to observe certain norms - you can't do or say what you like. That is what I mean by good manners. I may not personally like someone, or what they believe, but there are times when you should keep those opinions to yourself. A lot of the cases I read have come about by people being gratuitously stupid and getting called out on their idiocy.

Quote from: pyewacket on September 22, 2015, 12:21:30 PM
Political correctness only perpetuates problems. No one is allowed to discuss them and the problems are never resolved. It's another form of circular logic.

This is the sort of victim mentality that annoys me a bit. Some people love to feel embattled for no reason. Some people seem to regard it as their inalienable right to be unpleasant: "you two fags have no right to get married, because mah reelijin and the bahbul sez so!" What do you do there? I don't think that is a problem that requires discussion, it requires people to shut up and worry about their own lives, not the lives of others.

No one is saying that you can't discuss things, but you ought to be smart when you do it, and make sure you say it in the right way. You should also be clear whether you actually have any right to offer an opinion in the first place. People do love to express their opinions, but are not so keen when they are challenged to back them up. I think that's where a lot of people get confused and start grumbling about "political correctness".

I am confidently expecting the end of the world today. As you know, if you read any of brig's posts into a recorder and then play them backwards they all say, "hail, satan, my lord and master", and she has been spending most of her days recently in naked mystical writhings to bring this asteroid down on top of us (as she puts it) "bastards". I have just come back from the bookies where I put a large sum on "Asteroid Destruction" with a small covering bet on "Rosegirl says something sensible before the old bag snuffs it". I am confident I can't lose. Anyway, in the few hours I have left I thought I would clear out my inbox and reply to the PMs all you disgusting weirdos have plagued me with over the last few weeks. As we are all friends here, I decided to put them on the open forum.

Serenity: Sorry, but I can't put up the seed money for your Ted Bundy Museum. Not after the last venture you sucked me into. I know you felt it was "bold and innovative" but your idea for a fast food franchise called "McGacy's", with John Wayne as an even more twisted-looking Ronald McDonald, didn't find favour with the public and my investment disappeared faster then Inglorious Bitch's virginity. You're ahead of your time, love, that's all.

brig: Sorry, no nude pictures. BellBoy has the only set, so you'll have to ask him. That goes for every other woman on here who has made my life a misery with similar requests. And onan.

Starrmtn: Thanks for sending me the photo of yourself. Please don't do it again. And I hope you weren't offended by my response, which was an honest mistake. I genuinely thought it was Yoda.

gabrielle: You don't scare me. Sending details of your most recent homicides do not implicate me at all. Here is your latest message from Hell:

  "Dear meatsack,
That's another one knocked off. Illinois this time. A nun too!
   Sweet dreams, bitch!

   Your ever loving,
   gabrielle"

Frankly, these sexually explicit stories you keep sending, always involving my naked body, a cheese grater, and a blowtorch, are getting rather tiresome. I get enough of those from WhiteCrow.

Ms. C: Look, I promise to give you the rest of the money by the end of the month! I would have hoped that you could have used a more relaxed payment schedule, as I am a repeat customer who brings his own utensils. And I can assure you that the spaniel I brought along was not under-age. Please don't send gabrielle after me with her rusty scythe again. Please!!

nbirnes: I'm glad the speaking engagements have started to pick up over the last few weeks. However, as your agent, I think I should be more careful with the kind of bookings I am getting for you. Yes, I know you are killing it at the moment with your comedy act, and you are the toast of the colleges where you (as you put it) "get more ass than a rental car", but it is probably wise to know your audience occasionally. Downing a bottle of Jack and then fighting the biggest guy in the audience might be an appropriate climax for your set at the Chuckle Hut, but it creates the wrong impression when you are guest speaker at the Catholic Mothers Forum. I'm sorry to bring this up again, but I don't think your reply last time ("that's showbiz, you whore!") was quite the considered response I was looking for. But, to be fair, you were drunk off your ass at the time.

Rosegirl: I have decided to post her very moving message verbatim, so that this excellent woman is misunderstood no longer.

"Dear SV,

I am afraid I have been creating the wrong impression on here over the last few weeks, and thought I had better clear the air with a man who is as smart as he is handsome. The fact is, I have been in intensive training, as I am set to compete in the "World Psycho Bitch Championships" again, where I hope to improve on last year's bronze medal. As you may know, this is decided upon in both an oral and a written exam. My stint on Bella-Haven, where I played the role of a crazed sociopath, convinced almost everyone, and I am currently wearing the yellow jersey, slightly ahead of that dumb slut Clinton. However, I always fall slightly behind in the written portion and have been straining every nerve to correct this. I hope you realise that my online persona of a cloth-headed moron, who is so humourless that she can't even recall classic moments in Fawlty Towers without fucking them up, is all laughs and giggles; and I am really not the toxic harridan that people believe, but just a shy 93 year-old trying to find her way in life"

[struggles to contain his emotion]

There! I hope you are all thoroughly ashamed of yourselves. To err is human, to forgive divine.

Anyway, on the off-chance that we are still here tomorrow, I want to make it plain that I will pursue you bastards to the ends of the Earth in my quest for justice. Or further, if necessary!

This is a similar argument that my best friend, a professor and Rutgers, and I have often.

It's not similar at all. Go back and read it again. I said that it is as true for me as the veriest dumpster-diving dumbass. There's no elitism there, at least not from me. I don't think we are that much in control of our beliefs. They are there at an early age and we try to interpret them. Sometimes they alter with experience and education; but even then, is that really independent thinking, or just another form of influence?

Quote from: chefist on September 22, 2015, 09:09:45 AM
Basically his claim is that most people are not educated enough to be allowed to have an opinion.

That's just a statement of fact. I don't think people are educated enough to have an informed opinion about lots of things. Again, I include myself in that. I don't think I am capable of having informed views about the economy, for example, because I haven't looked at an economics textbook for over twenty years. People seem to feel they are entitled to sound off about health matters without any background in medicine of any kind. Most of the time their 'opinions' are little more than instinctual prejudices.

Quote from: chefist on September 22, 2015, 09:09:45 AM
I find his position arrogant, naive and rather adolescent.

That's Rutgers for you, I suppose. It seems community colleges will hire anyone these days.

Quote from: chefist on September 22, 2015, 09:09:45 AM
It's basically the academic equivalent of saying, "you're stupid!" and ending the discussion with no exchange of ideas.  It happens all the time at the university level here in the US where you must tow the primarily liberal agenda, or you are not even allowed to speak in an open dialogue.

I wouldn't know about that, but I think there are certain self-evident truths that are worth holding on to, and any attempt to question them is going to be self-defeating for any society that sees itself as civilised. I reserve the right to tell someone who advocates the return of slavery, for example, that they are stupid. Sorry if that offends you, but you see my point? A lot of political correctness is simple good manners in my opinion, and the times when it goes to excess are pretty rare, although heavily marked by the media. I think you are mainly referring to the ways in which  people are expected to conduct themselves. Actual academic debate should be expected to go wherever the evidence leads, however distasteful it may be to us.

Quote from: chefist on September 22, 2015, 09:09:45 AM
People have the freedom to have an opinion, no matter how outrageous or seemingly uneducated.

They have them, whether we want them to or not. If someone has an opinion that Justin Bieber is an agent from Hell sent to destroy humanity do we respect their opinion? In that case, yes, but quite often people have ideas that don't demand respect and it is part of life that we address sloppy thinking and correct it for future generations. Just think of the rubbish that people thought 100 years ago and tell me that we should always respect the opinions of others? Not me, thanks!

I understand your frustration- it won't get any better until people start paying attention and thinking for themselves instead of taking cures from the ("never let a crisis go to waste") propagandists and professional sh*t stirrers.

I'm not sure how often it is that people "think for themselves". Most people's opinions work backwards: they have an instinctive idea that something is 'right', and then begin the process of assembling the evidence to justify it to themselves and others. That's as true for me as it is for QK. And we don't have a lot of other things in common. Even if you try and conquer that prejudice and puzzle these matters out for yourself, you will almost invariably be influenced by some thinker or personality or whatever. For some reason, it seems to us more intellectually respectable to be influenced by Noam Chomsky than it does by Rush Limbaugh, but in neither case is it an independent intellectual process. I really question people who claim to have judiciously weighed all the evidence and formed a balanced conclusion, because I don't think it is actually possible.

Please get a better one!   :)   You did a fine job with this one, but his knowledge of the London crimes
was a little lacking. To be polite.

And, to be clear, I meant London, England, not London, somewhere else.

I used to listen to a man called Martin Fido, who did a series of true crimes stories on late-night radio in the UK called 'Murder After Midnight'. He's a Ripperologist (as they like to call themselves) and probably knows as much about this stuff as anyone, as well as all the people who have been fingered as the real Jack the Ripper. I am sure he knows more about true crime than anyone I have ever heard actually, and he could probably give you chapter and verse about almost any slaying you might be interested in, Manson Family included. I have a whole bunch of the shows he did and they are still a good listen even now. I haven't heard him on anything for a while because I don't really listen to the radio any more, but he's a natural performer and is just creepy enough to give all this stuff the lift it needs. He's worth considering, if he's still in the game.

Some days I come on here and feel like Dian Fossey.

I was just catching up with this thread - while the valet was readying my breakfast egg - and couldn't help noticing a few remarks that seemed to hint at a slightly ambivalent reaction towards your humble servant. I am unusually sensitive about these things, they come to me like lightning flashes, and their tendency hinted at a attitude closely resembling scorn and indignation. As I had already come to the conclusion that two-thirds of you ought to be placed under immediate sedation and restraint, I thought little more of it. With the exception of TigerLily's comments, which have now become so sexual and provocative that an email to the BellGab HR department is in readiness, after consultations with my legal team.

No, I read one post that wounded me deeply. In fact, I am now in process of re-evaluating my attitude to Life itself:

Quote from: b_dubb on September 20, 2015, 06:56:25 PM
Have you had enough attention yet? You've been derailing this thread for several days. Maybe start a General Musings of SV and you can do your Ivory Tower bit in there? Some of us come here for the Art Bell.

I am reserved about certain matters pertaining to the heart and its mysteries. However, I don't mind admitting that this is a man I respect. No, admire. No, venerate! OK, I will come out with it, as we are all friends here - I LOVE this man! Your baser natures are obviously unable to plumb the fathomless depths of his wit and intellect. As we are soul mates, if not yet, unfortunately, (give it time) lovers, I think it behooves me to illustrate a few examples of b_dubb's true nature.

You may see the above post as the yammerings of a grumpy old fuck who is jealous of someone ten times smarter and funnier than he is, but I tell you you are WRONG!! He's a truth teller, whose crispness of utterance is only exceeded by his awesome wisdom. I must have got on to the wrong path, and am truly sorry, babe!

Second. All of you arses who think his contributions to the Gabcast were as about as welcome as a chimp with a machine gun merely show how clueless you really are. Can't you idiots understand that it takes many years of practice to hone the act of a drivelling moron? The routine he has developed over the years, where he is unable to finish a simple sentence without forgetting what he was saying and petering out into, "ah, I guess...", is borrowed from Aristophanes. The warm timbre of his voice (which voice agencies refer to as "generic hayseed"), together with the "hapless dick" persona he has so carefully cultivated, is merely one of the reasons he is so in demand across the country, and why I find him so irresistibly sexy.

Finally, we should turn to the literary quality of his posts, which shine with a pithy learning and deathless prose that mere mortals like myself can only dream of:

Falkie the Filth Machine. The Sissyphus of Domestic Cleaning.

And now an allusion to Homer. This man is the 21st Century's answer to Alexander Pope, so richly allusive is he that it is hard to keep up. I am guessing that the mis-spelling of Sisyphus was also another sign of his multi-layered comic melos.

In summary, this guy is cleverer than the whole lot of you, and I am lucky to consider him a friend and life-partner. Don't you know how hard it is to insert the word "taint" into something? Even Oscar Wilde never pulled it off, though he often tried. Some people I know would see that as Route One, cheap laugh-getting bullshit, but it's only because they are idiots. These lapidary think pieces need the attention and applause they so obviously merit, and I ashamed of the lot of you for this shocking neglect.

Now, go away and leave me to my meditations.

QK might be doing pretty well for himself.  He has said he was in an engineering program with a 3.8 GPA, and also at one point I think he said he had made something like $1000 for that day's work (I probably have my figures wrong, but it was quite a lot of money).  Despite all of QK's faults, I think he probably abhors liars, but I also have a difficult time believing someone with such a narrow view would have completed an engineering program.  Third and fourth year engineering require that you mentally be able to manage a lot of complexity.  I'm still having trouble coming to terms with that one.

OK, well I have fucked every single Miss World for the past ten years. You can say anything on here.

I just happen to be telling the truth in this case.

Art doesn't understand how fast news dies.

Sredni and BellBoy YOUR you're both assholes.
Viva la derailment.

Yup, but a literate one. I can't say the same for the other character.

Good one BellBoy.  False innuendo always works on me . . . not. ;D

I think, in extenuation of BellBoy's shameful remarks, he was suggesting that you are unable to stir a step undiapered. Otherwise you are in danger of precipitating what gerontologists describe as 'the chocolate fountain'.

Naturally, I find this sort of thing deplorable, but totally expected from the sort of gutter sweepings you get in here.

Which may also explain the dark circles under your eyes.  Unless, of course, those are black eyes you received when BellBoy threw you under the short bus.

No, the dark circles are a result of the excessive masturbation that occurs when I read my own posts. And the creature known as BellBoy will be attended to in due course.

You are a moron

Yes, but I make up for it with my endearing personality. I don't know how you manage!

But be warned Vash.  You are not the only one who can navigate deep waters. 8)

Oh, all those wrinkles are due to water immersion? Now it all makes sense.

I've been to Dover. Do you reckon Starr's 'white cliffs' might still be worth a climb?

There's been a lot of cliff erosion there, so go carefully.

I recommend Beachy Head, so you can throw yourself off afterwards.

Indeed. I was going to ask for a quick summary, but the Wiki page is well worth a visit. So glad I did, and I applaud SV for the cool use of the concept.

There's certainly ups and downs on this thread. A few minutes ago I was a fake British troll living in my mother's basement.
I'm sure things will swing back again when Starrmtn reads all those things that Bellbastard made me say.

TRAITOR! And, by the way, I'm not old!

In geological terms she is quite the youngster.

I was merely trying respect the mood and decorum of this thread, sir. I'll have you know, I did my level best to act as a gentleman. I wouldn't want the old dear to stumble upon our folly and have another 'unfortunate accident'.

(Nickers are rather expensive these days.)

I'm already lining up my Oswald "Patsy" defence.

And it's "knickers". Don't try to play the retard for a lighter sentence!
