Radio and Podcasts / Re: Dave Schrader sucks!
May 09, 2018, 05:09:33 PM
A friend turned me onto Schrader's Darkness on the Edge of Town / Darkness Radio show about 5 years ago.

I listened intently and it was just okay until Dave started discussing Black Eyed Children. Ugh..

He didn't discuss nonsense like Black Eyed Children rationally and/or skeptically. He straight up endorsed / promoted it.

So he's not a skeptic, as he alleges, he's a salesman. I listened last night and it was bad. George Noory-bad.

I found out it costs to have your show broadcast on KCAA 1050...
..."KCAA is a pay to play operation. We have a staff that provides a long list of services for our programmers. Our hourly rates ranges from $125 to $250 for one hour weekly programs.

....You will need to sell advertising or support the cost of KCAA's services from your operating budget.

Jesus, that's terrible!

Maybe Richard can get around it somehow.

I assumed his split from DMDN was due to money issues. Either he wasn't making enough of it or the network as a whole had been losing too much of it since Art split and couldn't afford him anymore.

If Richard literally has to pay out of pocket to get broadcast on a single pay-to-play radio station, he's done for.

I hate to be that guy, but can someone explain what happened with Richard and the Other Side of Midnight program?

I haven't listened to MITD since Art left, but just saw it's expanding to 5 hours - which I assume pushes Richard's show off the schedule.

Quick Question: What is this "meltdown" Heather had? Which episode was it?

I've not listened to a single one of her shows, although I have kept my subscription in hopes Art returns.

The $5 will be coming out of my account in a couple days. I'll let it go one more month. If Art doesn't come back full time before then, I'm out.

Nothing against Heather, but I pay for Art Bell. When he returns, so will I, but not until then.

I can't stand it..

The stalker needs to give himself up.

Art has to come back!!  >:(

Hmmm.. Has anyone suggested that perhaps Art is planning to bury the hatchet with George and will appear on C2C as a guest to promote MITD?

That would be shocking, cause people to hate him and also serve to take the show to the next level..

Just a thought.  ;)

Art starting a public Facebook page tells me he's anticipating a larger audience and soon.

I bet dollars to donuts the announcement has everything to do with just that.

I highly doubt Art's abandoning the 5 day format. If he has thrown in with a major radio network, they're interested in Art, not Art + a Friday guy.

His pushing subscriptions so hard may not be peculiar at all. He's been doing that since day one. He may just be using the mojo generated by this "secret announcement" to scare those who haven't bit yet into biting.

I do wonder about Sirius.. They've gotten better about streaming independent podcasts.. It's just more content they don't have to pay for, which they can then use to promote themselves. With Stern (allegedly) on his way out, their crumbling model needs all the help it can get.

Also wonder if Art will be announcing Weekend Shows and Hosts soon? Perhaps some subscriber-only content as well?

I'm just happy the man is back. Unless Monday's announcement is he will no longer do shows, but will still charge me $5 a month, I'll be supportive.

This guy was FULL OF IT!

Holy crow.. Some of those were obviously toys. Can't believe Art was so cool with him.

The worst part is the story about losing his brother. If that's true, this is a horrid way to honor his legacy.

Joe Rogan was a GREAT guest. He made more great radio for Art in the 45 minutes he was on than the second guest did in 2 hours.

What I really noticed from re-listening to the full episode was how amped up Art seemed to be when Joe was on with him and how he seemed almost disinterested in David Sereda.

I've said for years that if ever there was a broadcaster that SHOULD have taken over for Art Bell on Coast, Rogan fits the bill.

He's skeptical, but naturally curious and even does research before he sits down with his guests. I sincerely hope Art has Joe back soon and does Joe's podcast someday - which if you haven't listened to, do yourself a favor and get with it!

Joe's had Graham Hancock on a number of times. Shane Smith from Vice always has crazy stories. Randall Carlson from the Sacred Geometry Institute is another great couple of podcasts. Not sure if Art's ever interviewed Randall, but he'd be PERFECT for MITD.

Sorry for the mini-blog, but had to get my 2 cents in. I too was once anti-Rogan, but his podcast changed my entire perception of him.

Oh, and I loved the prank caller who pointed out David's "circle talk" - not sure Art caught the gag, but Sereda completely missed it. What a maroon.

Jesus Christ... I missed the test show, but luckily it's available for download via my Time Travelers account.

BUT!!!!!!

This podcast format is HORSESHIT. The 3-single hour format NEVER works. Every radio show that's done this is the past quickly became not worth listening to, in my opinion.

The issue is some mp3 players don't recognize the sequence, thus the show is played out of order.

They need to edit the segments together into a single 3-hour podcast or just record the whole show in one shot and release the podcast that way. This 3 single individual hoursly podcasts has got to go.

Sorry for complaining, but I needed to vent and hope some people feel the same. I emailed Keith about it. Unsure if it will be resolved.

I had the same conversation with Dave from Darkness Radio and his response was "Sorry. That's just the way the station does it." Which was oh so helpful......  >:(

I bet a zillion dollars it's because they're planning to broadcast on YouTube, who are complete a-holes about music rights. Joe Rogan complains about it all the time. They should try an alternate route, like Ustream or Twitch or Vimeo. Someplace who aren't complete and utter greedy dickheads like YouTube.

Art without Abba is like George without obviously scripted callers.

I'm sure it's been discussed ad nauseam elsewhere, but what does Sirius have to lose by letting Art broadcast his internet show on their channels? It's FREE content.

Sirius may not want non-paying subscribers, but what about the paying subscribers who came to Sirius (and may continue to flock there) specifically for Art?

Sirius airs free internet-based content all the time! The Opie & Anthony channel airs Joe Rogan's podcast weekly. Stern's channel was set to air Adam Carolla's podcast too (before Adam asked how much they were gonna pay him for it).

If their kryptonite is paying for free content, they should've leapt at the chance to air a show as big as Art's for free.

This is fantastic news!

I assume the red, white and blue coloring of the Morse code suggests he is also returning to the States. (unless he's been back for a spell already and I'm just unaware..)

I wonder if he'll do a normal radio deal again or if he'll take advantage of internet radio and/or podcasting. I think an Art Bell podcast would be huge, like biggest podcast on iTunes-huge.

Someone mentioned previously that interest in Art Bell is waning. Nonsense! I'm sure once Art returns, so will his audience.

I just learned of this yesterday. I'd heard about the incident, but had no idea it was Morse. It's really creepy.

Especially learning about his past issues. This article is pretty telling: http://www.delmarvanow.com/article/20120821/DW01/208210334/Accused-doctor-radar-since-07?odyssey=mod%7Cnewswell%7Ctext%7CDelaware%20Wave%7Cs

Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness should definitely be on this list.

Phantasm, Re-Animator and CHUD are all good picks.

I'd also recommend Slither. It's a newer flick (2006?) from James Gunn, who wrote the remake of Dawn of the Dead. It's a sci-fi/body horror/comedy and it's very funny and self-effacing. And fairly gory too.

Oh yeah. John Lear is by far the craziest functional human being out there. Scientists should study him.

His last appearance with John B. Wells hosting was so bizarre and disconnected I had to stop listening to it halfway through.

Never did finish it. Can't believe they keep having him back on.

Another great read, though it gets somewhat technical but it's worth it, was

"Biocentrism" by Robert Lanza
http://www.amazon.com/Biocentrism-Consciousness-Understanding-Nature-Universe/dp/1935251740/

It's a short read at just 200 pages, but it's chock full of info on Dr. Lanza's theory that rather than all life being based on a physical reality, he surmises that all physical reality is generated by all life. It's fascinating, especially if you like all the bizarre quantum physics stuff.

Dr. Lanza was one of Art Bell's last on-air interviews.

A couple years back I started reading every non-denominational, well-reviewed book on death and dying, the afterlife and reincarnation I could find, (a good deal of them I learned of through C2C, including this one) and the absolute best book I read is called

"The Art of Dying" by Peter and Elizabeth Fenwick
http://www.amazon.com/Art-Dying-Peter-Fenwick/dp/0826499236

Ian Punnett had Dr. Fenwick on a couple times around 2009.

I read over 2 dozen books on the subject and this one brought me the most peace. It covers the gamut, everything from death-bed visions to out-of-body experience to after-death communication to helping a loved one die with dignity.

It's also highly readable and expertly researched, which is a rare combination.

I must admit I enjoyed David's previous appearance on the show and this most recent one, but whether you think him credible or completely full of shit, everyone should check out an interview he did on Dark Matters Radio with Don Ecker.

The podcast is available on iTunes. It was recorded in mid-May, so right between his last and latest appearances on C2C.

It's interesting because some key questions the host asks, when compared to similar questions asked of him on Coast, pretty much expose him as an ass-hat fraud.

Throughout the interview the host, Don Ecker, who has a refreshingly authoritative approach to radio, will contest something David has said as being "ridiculous" or "impossible" and rather than answer immediately, Paulides leaves a good bit of dead air just hanging there before responding, as if he's been knocked off his script or is waiting to be called out as a liar.

Ecker asks, with such clandestine evil going on within the National Park Service, don't they have their own version of Internal Affairs to contend with these matters? Of course, Paulides doesn't know.

Ecker also asked him that if the NPS wasn't giving him any help, his next step should be to go to his local Congressman or Senator, as they would be able to put pressure on the NPS and help him get the information he was requesting. Paulides says "Honestly, no I haven't thought to do that."

NOW, that one is interesting, because in his latest interview with George Knapp he goes out of his way to point out that during his investigations he did indeed contact his Congressman in order to put pressure on said officials.

Hmmmmm?

One other thing, he brought up the case of the child that was abducted by a "hairy man" where another family heard a scream and saw the hairy figure with something on it's back running beyond the treeline.

Eckers said, although that seemed to be the direction the story was headed, he didn't want to get too far into the supernatural possibilities.

Paulides conforms to this and says one of the authority figures told him that the problem was "Wild Men". Families of wild people who live in the Park system and routinely kidnap people, but the Park Service is helpless against them because if it was proven to be so, they would be liable for all the disappearances.

That makes some sense, but it's funny that he went with that option when it became apparent the host might not buy his theory that Bigfoot or Dog Men are responsible, i.e. whatever he said to George on C2C.

Despite all this, Don is a gracious host who, ultimately, doesn't seem to acknowledge any of this as anything but factual and asks to have David back on. I sincerely hope he does, as I want to call in and confront him.

That's my 2 cents anyway.

Another podcast I'd really recommend to Coast listeners is the Joe Rogan Experience.

Joe's a big proponent of psychedelic experiences and legalizing marijuana, but more so, he's big into spirituality, hard science, alternative history, alternate dimensions, some conspiracy theory and is a huge fan of Terence McKenna.

He doesn't always cover these topics, usually he talks about comedy, his life and sometimes, UFC (der) but if there was a next generation version of classice C2C, I'd say it's Joe.

Check out his interview with Graham Hancock (Fingerprints of the Gods): http://blog.joerogan.net/archives/3583

I listen to "Jim Harold's Campfire" regularly, which is essentially Ghost to Ghost concept in podcast form.

I listen to his Paranormal Podcast and Paranormal Report once in a while too. They cover all things paranormal on those.
