Rome was on oddity which was interesting at first but quickly got old with me, with all the "Rome-speak" and the obligatory butt kissing and playing of the Rome game with him, takes, clones, etc.  A talented guy, though.

Ah yes, the whole "jungle" act gets tired in a heartbeat doesn't it.

For some real Romey fun:

Ha!  "Chris" Everett.  I haven't listened to a Rome show in years.  He was definitely good for some laughs though, especially when he'd get on some of the supposed pro athletes, with his little nicknames.

I think they overdid the audio at the end, but what a laugher! ;D

Once again, I've fallen into Bizarro BellGab.  Almost 3000 pages of Jorch suckage and BG'ers are posting on the George Noory Sucks thread about their Radio Hall of Fame votes for Jorch Noory...

I know it's warped, but he deserves some kind of award just for friggin endurance.  I mean he's been playing the long game man.  While all these other dramas have come and gone, Ol' Reliable just kept quietly marching along, showing up every nite, reading his goofy news, half-assing interviews, chit-chatting with Corny and the gang, selling his beets - while still having energy for weekend karaoke time.

I don’t think anyone that is still playing the game should be eligible for any Hall of Fame.

I love Nick Redfern's staffordshire accent but I suspect some of the people he "interviewed" for his book were joshing him. "Pulling his pisser" as an uncouth Englishman might say.

Jojo

John Tesh is a good one to vote for in the other category.  For decades, he broadcast pleasant life hacks and clarified how things actually work in a way that relates to daily life, especially caring about pets.

That would put off GN's accolades for some time.  He once said he'd be hosting Coast till we had a colony on Mars.

I listen in on some week-day nights to the opening of the show, thinking I'll hear of some oddity that I didn't know about.  I chucked again when I heard Noory report that homes were killed in Hawaii.  I can't handle listening to this dufus so tune away after his opening.  Weekends, with the exception of the first Sunday of the month, are bliss, especially with Ian coming back on the air!

If there is an award to be awarded, it should be to you and the others on this forum that can handle listening to the dolt for more than an hour.  I'm sure there are a lot of great guests but I cant tolerate Noory "try to sound intelligent" comments and interjections.  The last full show I listened to was on the heels of the movie "American Sniper".  Noory's guest was a retired sniper and listening to Noory equate his service with the guests', I was sickened.

Other than his claim he had, Is there definitive proof that George Ralph Noory served in the U.S. Navy?

His birthday indicates that his draft number was called up but seems he avoided the draft.  He said his got out of the reserves right before his unit got called up to serve in the Gulf.  Again, is there any proof that Noory was in the US Navy?

I don’t know if there is proof but he was in the naval reserve as a public information officer.  Not the active duty navy and he got out before he could be called to active duty during desert storm.

Lol an hour?  I usually only tune in for a few mins. to catch the news goofs or Petey Davenport with the orange lights review.  An hour would only be achieved with a handful of bandwidth-heavy guests like LMH or Nick Redfern who come loaded with good stories to steamroll George with.

Btw before a few pages ago, I didn't even know there was a radio hall of fame.  I put about as much stock in the opinions of such institutions as in the marketing blurb on a hemorrhoid cream box.

Does Noory still look at this thread? or does he only post in other show threads?

Nope.  Plenty of people just ride the wave of mediocrity and I shan't empower or reward them!

I've been wanting to use "shan't" for some time now.  Whew!  I feel relief.

Good for you.  Mr. Rogers needs to stand firm on his standards, unlike a confused, reprobate squirrel. ;)  ;D

"In Part 1, we learned about the squirrels’ biological warfare program, a sophisticated and deadly operation that would have been the envy of Saddam Hussein himself.  Today we will explore other squirrel tactics in their escalating war against human civilization: wanton acts of lawless depravity, and outright terrorism aimed at civilian infrastructure."

"Just last summer alone:

A Michigan police department has named a squirrel a suspect in a $128,000 nut heist."

Anyone remember Bruce Williams?

http://www.brucewilliams.com
Yes, I listened to many of Bruce's shows back in the old TalkNet radio days. He gave sound financial and practical advice back in the day. I remember when he had his plane crash and he did his radio shows from bedside for a time while recovering. Sometimes his patience would run thin when a caller would not hear what they wanted to hear in his advice.

He did a podcast for a while after retiring from radio. On his final podcast, he repeats the story of when some radio executives he worked with asked him to talk with a new guy they were bringing to New York who wanted to get into national radio and since Bruce was #1, would he talk to the guy. As Bruce put it, the guy was too demanding, wanted too much money, and would not listen to anything Bruce was telling him. Bruce admitted in retrospect that not following his advice was to the guy's credit because he wanted to do things his way which is what made this new guy successful. The new guy was Rush Limbaugh. A few years later, Bruce said he got some interesting news: he was no longer #1. Rush was now #1 and Bruce was now #2. Bruce said he was fine with that because no one stays on top forever. That final podcast is a gem because he also talks about how he got started in radio.

One of his memorable radio calls was the guy from Spokane who called in frantically on his way home from the airport where someone was trying to extort money from him. Someone put it on Youtube and there is the followup call the next day on what happened:

You have some good points.  I just get so tired of all the alcohol talk and the references to women he is attracted to.  I wonder if he is the type of guy who doesn't even wrap gifts.  Then he plays I Am Human and Need to be Loved, Light My Fire, and I Did It My Way.  Flabbergasting.  I voted for him, but only because of the things you said, and I had never heard of the competition.

And, he dismisses guests' at pivotal moments, making one wonder if he gives a crap.  I used to think he was conserving their input, building suspense for the next time they appear.  But in five years, he has never followed up on any of those pivotal points in the next interview with said guest.  Besides, the guests provide talking points, so it would be a different tactic if George referred back to a prior point.

So nice to hear a happy ending.  The guy had "padded" $3000 in travel expense records over time.  Someone must have known, because when he got back in the country, his account had $77,000 in new, unknown money.  He got a call from someone (probably a money launderer) who demanded over $25,000 of the money.  The guy paid it (extortion).  He was a nervous wreck, called radio host Bruce, and Bruce convinced him to come clean to an attorney at least.  Withdrawals over $10,000 are examined, and it turned out his bank was worried about him.  They felt he might have been withdrawing it under duress.

This is just a reminder to try to do things right.  Any time you cheat, someone could find out and use that against you by extorting you for money because they will tattle on you if you don't pay them.  People know that cheating is risky in itself, but it also opens you up to being victimized.

Also a reminder not to have secrets.  Just not worth the threat of blackmail.  No matter how embarrassing something is, it is usually not worth losing your peace of mind and freedoms to being over someone else's barrel whenever they feel like blackmailing you,

Here is an article differentiating blackmail (releasing info) from extortion (threatening violence, inappropriate testimony, etc...)
https://criminal-law.freeadvice.com/criminal-law/white_collar_crimes/extortion_blackmail.htm

Remember when you meet someone who always has a black cloud over their head, that they might not be an Eyeore or sourpuss.  They could be hip deep in some sort of extortion or blackmail victimization.  One way to get them to open up is to ask them what their regrets in life are.  They might mention something interesting, and they might appreciate a chance to vent a little even though they won't say everything.  They might just say they once trusted the wrong person.  Or, they broke a rule and regretted the ramifications.   Or, they don't like some of the people they have to associate with.

I've heard that Oprah had to deal with extortion schemes.  I think lots of celebrities do.  I wonder if rich athletes have the same issue.

Joorch puffing the shit out of his upcoming live stage show events, as usual. First, the Silverton Casino in Vegas (this was even elevated to the status of 'dramatic live stage show event' a week or so ago) for which, says Joorch, there may be tickets left. He doesn't know. In fact, he says, nobody knows. I'd hazard a guess the Casino probably does, but never mind.
On to his show in North Carolina for which, Joorch announced, there is 'a row of handicapped seats for those people who are wheelchair accessible'.
