Spooky Tim is no longer hosting MITD.  Now the host is Tim Ozman.  His first show tonight is a trainwreck.

That was a great show last night.  Fascinating story.

You know who would *love* it if Elgab and Bellgab went to war and  all the Bell/El gabbers became divided?     So just don't

Yep.  She would.  May both forums thrive.

So I'm confused.  Why is this show calling itself the Alex Jones Show?  Thought that name was already taken by THE Alex Jones.

I'd love to know the real story of why MV (err... "Liberace") had to shut down Bellgab for six months.

Actually, I think that's good strategy by Dave to have him on right off. He learned from last night--you don't want to have your best act on first, if possible.

C2c has long known that.

Only one guest on MITD tonight.  I guess no hope that the final hour will be Open Lines?

Read it CAREFULLY. “They are messing with more equipment”.

Don’t assume the second “They” is the same “They” that took the phone lines.

i.e. She unplugged cables to install the new dump button and couldn’t figure out how to get it working.

Are you sure?  Art seemed like a fairly normal guy who had an interest in the unknown, a gift for radio, and wisely chose to live away from the limelight to me.

We didn't find out he was a jerk until the Sirius fiasco, confirmed by the MITD fiasco and it's aftermath

"Fairly normal guy"?  No.  Just my opinion, however.

The best are damaged.

I agree.  All the best artists are:  their pain helps to create their art.  A truly brilliant radio host is an artist.  Art was such a great radio host that he turned what he did into art.

Coppola put it well:  "The popular kid is out having a good time,… he doesn’t sit around thinking about who he is or how he feels. But the kid who is ugly, sick, miserable or schlumpy sits around heartbroken and thinks. He’s like an oyster growing a pearl of feelings which becomes the basis of an art.”

Thanks Faustina, you hit the nail on the head! I was hoping somebody would help me sort through the trouble I'm having with Schrader's "style"...you're absolutely right, I have this awful habit of comparing the new guy with Art. It really is the fact that Schrader is well adjusted that makes him so uninteresting. I've never related to or understood people who were good at life. I tend to be a misfit magnet, and a proud fuck-up myself. The thing that got me about Schrader is that he offers me nothing as a listener (personally). I know a lot of people here are into the paranormal - but the host that comes closest to Art's magic is Michael Savage for me, and yes, he's "politics" and conservative, so I'm sure that's a switch off for a lot of people...but really, to me, he takes me as a listener to that place that I want to be...outside of myself, and gets me to THINK. Art was the only other one who ever did that. But Savage is incredible. Thanks again for helping me understand Schrader's normality.

I'm glad I was able to help.  Normal people aren't very interesting to me, either.  The more angst-ridden and damaged a person is, the more I can relate and the more they fascinate me.  Art was a mixed bag of tricks:  the more you got to know of him, the more one realized you had to take the good with the bad.  The "bad," for me, just made him all the more interesting:  both as a radio host and as a person.  His pain, from whatever source it arose (messed up childhood), made him able to go all that much deeper as an interviewer.

We lost a lot when Art went off the air for good; we've lost more now that he's dead.  Art is the kind of public person in media who comes along about once a generation, and I enjoyed that ride so much but it is over and can't be replicated.

So now, since I love radio and the paranormal, I am strict with myself about not comparing other hosts to Art.  As a result, I'm able to enjoy many shows, mostly for their content alone more than for what the host brings to the show.  I'm very happy that such a renaissance is going on in the paranormal radio/podcast field.  I feel Art was the inspiration for a lot of it, which just goes to give even more credence to his worth and his legacy.

I listened again today, and Schrader sounds like a guy in a room asking questions.

The fact that I can't characterize it as either means that its a neutral statement, and subsequently falls in the category of bad.

I'm a talk radio fan, a listener, and while its cool Schrader is accessible, upfront and open to input, I don't really care to tell him how to do what he does. When I listen, I don't like to be aware that I'm listening ... I like to get lost in the show and topic. I'm aware he can take critiques and takes them well, I want some magic - if I were a broadcaster I could GIVE constructive criticism...but I'm not, and can't. I just want something I'm not getting from him.

It literally sounded to me like he was simply reading and relaying questions. And his questions were just questions. There was nothing else to it but him "doing the job". I guess its for some people, and that's cool...Its just not for me.

P.S. The switch of the word "paranormal" to "fringe" was great. See I'm not a fucking hater.

I see your point.  The problem is, you're comparing him to Art.  Art was a character.  Dave Schrader is not a character, at all.  He's normal and well-adjusted (which is nice for him, but it's not very interesting), relatively bright without being brilliant.  Art was messed up, brilliant, fascinating, charismatic.  There is only one Art Bell and his like will never be back again.  Don't compare other radio hosts to Art, or they will all just end up coming up short and you won't be able to enjoy this wonderful renaissance we're having of streaming paranormal radio shows (so many,... more all the time,... some of them are very good).

It's a juxtaposition to the old unsolid stream.

I could be wrong though.

I Pm'd with him for a while.  He's a mess, imo.  I let it slide.

So Carl Richardson is Heather's webmaster?  Hahahahaha!  :D

Wtf she kept Art's voice giving out the number.

I wonder if she has the legal right to do that.  She's presuming the Estate of Art Bell won't sue her.

He sounds like his dentures get loose every once and a while. A real mush mouth.
As well the LNM and TUNE IN just cuts out and buffers every so often. Rookie op.

Michael Vara always sounds drunk to me:  all that slurring.

I can't get the LNM TuneIn stream to work at all.  I can hear the audio on the LNM Network website about half the time.  I'm not really listening though:  was watching my Giants trounce the Reds.

Regarding UPRN and Joe Montaldo, from what I have heard, Heather's demands for money, a producer, booking coordinator, time slot (which was mine), the diva behaviour, wrapped up with the idea that she is likely to be sued, Joe smartened up and said "No Can Do"!  So Heather moved over to LNM.

For some reason, that doesn't surprise me at all.  Good for Joe.

Well, that doesn't pass the smell test. 1 million listeners and LNM struggles to bring in $1000?

She should be careful about boasting of things that don't match up with reality.
