Kind of. But just because somebody goes to a comedy club doesn't mean they'll get the jokes.

true some can be shown the light but it really is up to them to appreciate it.

I want to finally get something from them. I've been hearing art talk about baygen radios and wave radios and led flashlights from C Crane since 1995. If they had a little all in one that I could play dark matter on and feet am/fm I would probable have my decision made.

DMT has been around for thousands of years and you probably never broke through to see what the hype is about... it is not at all recreational like lsd is

The high from a DMT trip was uncomfortable, felt as though I had lost control, not fun at all. On the other hand, good LSD was a much better acid trip.

What this guy is saying has been covered several times before by people far more qualified. It DOES give him a different message though than say Sagan. Although I prefer Sagan's narrative.

aldousburbank

I'm a believer in finding god in front of your face. My tryptamining left me with a strong urge to enjoy the every day bliss. I couldn't be bothered to sit down for a blast of spirit molecule fume for at least the past 20 yrs. Got the message. Hung up the phone.

Quick Straw Poll - do coast gabbers believe in a god part of the brain? yay or nay

I believe its human nature to want to believe in something ..but i think its mental illness to proselytize

popple

"I warned you and on top of it he has a ny accent!"

Yeah, some DMT, 'shrooms, and ayahuasca should do it.

I would love for graham Hancock to be tomorrow nights guest.

Shrooms don't just alter your consciousness, they change you.

jazmunda

I knew he would play My Sweet Lord tonight. He always plays it with Alper.

It's the difference between drinking water, and pissing on your neighbor's shoe.

I think there is something in our nature that makes us want to believe, but, I also believe maybe there is a reason we want to that we have distanced ourselves from. In short, I don't preach, and I don't condemn those who believe either way.

I get his pov, however, he suffers what most hardcore atheists suffer from, massive ego.
He's not annoying though, yet
I'm still interested in hearing the show though.

Definitely. I remember this guy from the old days, he's got an ego the size of a bus.

PrairieGhost

I like talking to you guys and gals but I think I'm kicking back tonight. I'm sure you won't miss me much lol

steelbot

YAY - to the point that I believe personally - without the help of this guy - that Humans have an inherent need to explain one's self in the "universe" and Religion can be a strong influence.  Whether there's a specific part of the brain that says so vs just our own consciousnesses, so be it.

possible, but i can't know.

b_dubb

i studied brain science as an undergrad and i feel like what this fellow has to say is pretty familiar.  although i've had several personal experiences that indicate there's more to this life than neurons and neurotransmitters.  but there's no piece of evidence out there that conclusively proves anything.  personally i don't believe you can reduce humanity to peptide strings and hormones.

also ... you can get a great deal on viagra.  listening to SXM commercials is so informative.

I believe a creator, who is not the god we march out and bow to and/or crucify, put us together with a "god part" so that we would believe in a god we march out and bow to and/or crucify. Why? That's above my pay scale and tryptamine levels.

To enter a dimension inside the mind where there are no questions or answers, no you or I, no pairs of opposites at all, and pure ecstatic bliss exist for no reason, not a bliss of accomplishment or achievement but one of pure understanding, it is transcendent to the reality we live in.

it is the source of all religious stories and mythology.

That's my radio I was on about last night!  I love it. It is discontinued but it pops up on ebay often.

trsix

Ill catch the open lines. Listening to freaks that need the religious crutch makes me sick to my stomach.

ziznak

I think its a survival/instinctual/biological thing.  Belief in a god or higher power is always a plus for human beans in crisis... ask jorch!

Does that mean the pizza rolls were punishment for something?

aldousburbank

Anyway, who cares?  If god is, then it's like two fishes arguing about whether water is. If not, it's like two gods debating their existence. One hippie's opinion.

dortmunder

He's really beginning to piss me off with these "fancy words" remarks.

I had shrooms in Thailand once and then the next day I saw this sign:

I'd say we do not have a God part of the brain. It would suggest that atheists do not have that part of the brain. That seems self-defeating to Alper's whole point because he's in effect telling us that he's mentally defective.
